'He's just gotta get more confident' Rueben Owens discusses QB Marcel Reed's progress
Texas A&M starting quarterback Marcel Reed entered the 2025 spring season with plenty of pressure on his shoulders to improve as a passer, knowing that with Conner Weigman transferring to Houston this offseason, he will lead the Aggie offense into next season as one of the faces of the program.
However, it's hard to gauge how much he can improve over the short spring period leading up to the Maroon & White spring game on April 19, and while those of us who can attend a certain number of practices, the opinions of the players around him provide more insight into his potential improvement, including a fellow sophomore playmaker who is returning from a season-ending injury.
On Wednesday, head coach Mike Elko was joined by former five-star running back Rueben Owens, who is entering his second entire season after missing all but two games in 2024. Since Friday's first practice, Owens has been one of the many bright spots who is set to finally explode on the scene after gaining more strength this offseason to add to his already elite skillset.
"I got way stronger. It'll help me break tackles more, run harder."
Concerning Marcel Reed's improvement as a passer, some Aggie fans and rival fanbases are already taking Owen's words out of context after he praised Reed's arm strength, but also noted that he needs to continue gaining confidence as a passer.
"Marcel (Reed) has been throwing pretty good. He's just got to get more confident in throwing because he can throw the ball."
For those of us used to preseason hype, that may or may not be true regarding quarterback play; this is a refreshing take for a team that is looking to finally get over the eight-win hump, and provide Aggie fans something to look forward to once the season rolls around.

Clemson vs. South Carolina 2025 game time announced, reactions to the early time slot
Clemson vs. South Carolina 2025 game time announced, reactions to the early time slot The kickoff time is set for Clemson's regular-season finale against rival South Carolina. The Tigers and Gamecocks will meet at noon on Friday, Nov. 29 at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, with the game airing on either ABC or ESPN. It's the third time in the past four years the Palmetto Bowl will be played at noon. Clemson will look to bounce back from last year's 17-14 loss at home, a game that ended the Tigers' seven-game win streak in the rivalry. Dabo Swinney's team will also aim to continue its road dominance in Columbia, where Clemson has won five straight dating back to 2015. With a win, the Tigers would secure six straight victories at South Carolina for the first time since a stretch from 1989 to 1999. The Gamecocks haven't beaten Clemson at home since 2013, and the Tigers will be eager to keep it that way this fall. Along with the announcement of the game time came reactions. Like last year, people are mixed on the noon game. Contact us @Clemson_Wire on X, and like our page on Facebook for ongoing coverage of Clemson Tigers news and notes, plus opinions.
