Caitlin Clark brings back Shedeur Sanders' signature celebration

Yahoo6 hours ago

Shedeur Sanders' iconic "watch flex" celebration became a trademark of the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback throughout his final season. Celebrities and top athletes began using the celebration after highlight moments, such as game-winning goals in soccer or home runs in baseball.
The celebration received so much acclaim that it was featured in the EA Sports College Football 25 video game. Thanks to WNBA superstar Caitlyn Clark, Sanders' celebration is back in the spotlight.

Clark paid homage to the Cleveland Browns' rookie quarterback before the Indiana Fever's game against the Chicago Sky. Clark has been absent from the starting lineup recently as she recovers from a left quad strain she suffered against the New York Liberty on May 24.
The former Iowa star seems ready to get back on the court, with her next chance being June 10 against the Atlanta Dream.
Clark and Sanders were arguably the most talked-about college athletes over the past two seasons, as both athletes wrapped up their college careers with significant hype. Clark is in her second season in the WNBA after being the No. 1 overall pick in 2024, while Sanders is entering his first year in the NFL after falling to the fifth round in the NFL draft.

Kirk Cousins' reaction to Falcons' Michael Penix draft shocker revealed in Netflix's ‘Quarterback' trailer

Kirk Cousins likely didn't expect his first season with the Falcons to take the turn it did, otherwise he may not have accepted a spot in Netflix's 'Quarterback' show. The show released its trailer Monday morning for the second season, where the Omaha Productions/NFL Films/2PM Productions docuseries follows quarterbacks Cousins, Jared Goff and Joe Burrow during this past NFL season. Included in the trailer was the moment Cousins, who was fresh off signing a four-year, $180-million deal with Atlanta, saw the team select fellow quarterback Michael Penix Jr. in the draft. The show's typical positive manner took a turn when the trailer revealed a title card that read, 'All the Heartbreak,' and cut to Cousins detailing his decision to leave the Vikings for a more long-term situation with the Falcons. 4 Kirk Cousins and his wife discuss the decision to leave the Vikings and join the Falcons. Netflix/X It quickly cut to Cousins' in-season benching and the visuals of Atlanta drafting Penix with the No. 7 pick. 'I was surprised when the NFL draft happened,' a disappointed Cousins is heard saying in the trailer. 4 Kirk Cousins was benched in his first season with the Falcons after he threw 18 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. AP In the first season of the show, it followed Marcus Mariota alongside the then-Viking Cousins and Patrick Mahomes. Mariota was also benched mid-season for the Falcons during his run on the show, and the production team elected to phase him out of the show a bit — so, the options for how they follow Cousins' similar situation will be intriguing. The show's other season-two participants, Burrow and Goff, also suffered some heartbreak during the past season, which will also likely be covered under the 'All the Heartbreak' umbrella of the show, which is released on July 8. 4 Joe Burrow will be featured in season two of 'Quarterback.' Getty Images 4 Season two of the show also follows Jared Goff. Getty Images Goff's Lions were the top team in the NFL heading into the playoffs before bowing out early in a gut-punch of a loss to the Commanders. As for Burrow, the trailer shows the headlines from when his home was broken into during the season, so that situation also made it into the trailer. Burrow also failed to reach the playoffs.

Who is Indianapolis Colts top candidate to win Defensive Player of the Year in 2025?

Who is considered the Colts' top Defensive Player of the Year candidate for the 2025 NFL season? Pro Football Network recently weighed in. Who is considered the Indianapolis Colts' top Defensive Player of the Year candidate for the 2025 NFL season? Jacob Infante of Pro Football Network recently selected who he believes the top candidate is for each team. When it came to the Colts, DeForest Buckner was the selection. "With 58.5 sacks over his last seven seasons, DeForest Buckner has long been one of the best pass-rushing defensive tackles in the NFL," wrote Infante. "He's a three-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All-Pro, but Buckner hasn't been a Defensive Player of the Year finalist yet. If he manages to stay healthy for a full 17 games, that could change in 2025." The last five NFL Defensive Player of the Year winners An ankle injury sidelined Buckner from Weeks 3-7 last season, but upon his return, he was his usual highly disruptive self. Even with missing five games, Buckner was still third on the team in pressures. Compared to his position group league-wide, he ranked seventh in PFF's pass rush win rate, 12th in pass rush productivity, and ninth in run-stop rate. That level of efficiency over the course of a full season has the potential to turn into some high-level production. In 2023, Buckner ranked 14th among all defensive tackles in pressures that year, and he was tied for eighth in sacks. For some context, and of course, the production that's needed to win this award each season differs, but when Aaron Donald won in 2020--the last defensive tackle to do so--he led all defensive linemen in pressures and sacks, according to PFF. Along with Buckner's own production, his presence on the field greatly benefits all the defenders around him with the attention he draws, the push he generates, and the mismatches he helps create.

Clemson defensive line pair named one of college football's 5 best dynamic duos for 2025

Clemson set to play home-and-home series against Big East basketball brand: report CBS Sports has spotlighted the duos set to shape the 2025 College Football Playoff race, and Clemson's defensive front was firmly in the mix. The Tigers' tandem of T.J. Parker and Peter Woods ranked No. 4 nationally on CBS' list of top dynamic duos in college football heading into the new season. 'The Clemson defense took its lumps in 2024 but looks poised for a potentially dominant season with Tom Allen stepping into the coordinator role,' CBS' Carter Bahns wrote. 'It all starts up front with perhaps the nation's top returning defensive lineman in Peter Woods and an unstoppable edge rusher in T.J. Parker.' Parker enters 2025 with momentum after a breakout sophomore season that saw him earn second-team All-ACC honors. He set a school record with six forced fumbles while also ranking top-10 nationally in forced fumbles, tackles for loss (19.5), and sacks (11). He's the only player in the country who cracked the top 10 in all three categories last season. Woods, a former five-star recruit, contributed across the line in 2024 and even logged snaps at fullback. In 11 games, he tallied 32 tackles (8.5 for loss), three sacks, and a forced fumble. The only duos ranked ahead of Parker and Woods were Penn State's running backs (Nicholas Singleton/Kaytron Allen), Texas' defensive pairing (Anthony Hill Jr./Colin Simmons), and Ohio State's wide receivers (Jeremiah Smith/Carnell Tate). Arizona State's QB-WR combo of Sam Leavitt and Jordyn Tyson rounded out the top five. CBS also gave honorable mention to Clemson wide receivers Antonio Williams and Bryant Wesco Jr., pointing to the deep arsenal available to quarterback Cade Klubnik.
