At least five people were injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) blast targeted the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province.
At least five people were injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) blast targeted the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express train in Mastung district of Pakistan's Balochistan province, derailing five coaches, according to Pakistan Railway officials.
On Sunday, the Jaffar Express was struck by a blast near the Spezand Railway Station, derailing five coaches, The Express Tribune reported. All five passengers sustained minor injuries, and rescue teams, including railway staff, were immediately dispatched to the site.
Officials said the Jaffar Express had departed for Peshawar at 9:00 am today and was passing through Spezand Railway Station when the IED hit. A second train was dispatched to the station to transport stranded passengers.
Security forces and police cordoned off the area, and the bomb squad cleared the site. Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi strongly denounced the attack, affirming that such cowardly acts of terrorism would never shake the nation's resolve.
Attacks On Jaffar Express
The Baloch outfit dubbed the hijacking 'Operation Darra-e-Bolan 2.0," which unfolded in Bolan, located in Pakistan's province of Balochistan. The attack came as a huge embarrassment for the Pakistani establishment, and the bodies of at least 25 people, including 21 hostages, were retrieved from the train hijack site.
Hundreds of passengers were taken hostage and over two dozen security personnel of Pakistan were killed by BLA forces. Gunmen from the Baloch militant group had 'bombed the railway track" and taken control of the train in Sibi after wounding the driver.
BLA fighters accused Pakistan of extrajudicially killing Baloch people and taking the Balochistan province to ruination. One of them slammed the United Nations and human rights organisations of remaining silent over the Baloch 'genocide".
Last week, a Quetta-bound Jaffar Express narrowly escaped disaster when a bomb planted near the track close to Sibi Railway Station exploded just after the passenger train passed, according to Dawn. A portion of the railway track was blown up in the blast, but the train remained unharmed.

Ganeshotsav Mandals should create awareness about Operation Sindoor: Maha CM

Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday asked the Ganeshotsav Mandals to create awareness about the power shown by India to the world through Operation Sindoor and the use of indigenous products during this year's Ganesh festival. He appealed to the public Ganeshotsav Mandals to celebrate this Ganeshotsav in a peaceful and enthusiastic atmosphere in coordination with the administration, and also expressed the hope that the scenes based on 'Operation Sindoor' would be dedicated to the jawans. At the meeting to review the law and order situation, Fadnavis also instructed the administration to take necessary actions so that Ganesh devotees do not face any problems during the Ganesh festival. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Minister of Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Mangalprabhat Lodha, Minister of State for Home (Rural) Pankaj Bhoyar, Minister of State for Home (Urban) Yogesh Kadam and Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar were present. He gave instructions to give permission to idol makers for five consecutive years, like the public Ganeshotsav Mandals. He said that the idol makers should renew these licenses every year. For permission, one should take advantage of the computerised system-based one-window scheme launched by the Municipal Corporation, he added. He also gave instructions to increase the number of artificial lakes for immersion of Ganesh idols and the number of boats for immersion of tall idols in the deep sea on the seashore. Fadnavis said that the state government has given Ganeshotsav the status of a state festival. Therefore, a large-scale and detailed plan has been made by the state government to celebrate this festival. All the concessions given to Ganeshotsav mandals last year will be maintained this year as well. The law should be followed properly while celebrating this festival. 'Since Eid-e-Milad festival also falls during Ganeshotsav, care should be taken to ensure that law and order does not deteriorate anywhere by maintaining religious harmony. Positive action will be taken under the court to extend the days of permission given to loudspeakers during Ganeshotsav,' he added. According to the government release, it was decided at today's meeting that the property tax will not be levied on the offices of the public Ganeshotsav Mandals, which will convey to the administration in writing that their offices are not being used for commercial purposes.

The US's recalibration of its Pakistan policy

There have been several signs of a strategic realignment between Pakistan and the US, whose relations had fallen to a low after US President Donald Trump declared seven years ago that Islamabad had given Washington 'nothing but lies and deceit' in return for billions of dollars in aid. In addition to the Pakistan army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, travelling to the US on two occasions in as many months, and even being hosted at the White House by Trump, the US has declared the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its proxy, The Majeed Brigade, as a foreign terrorist organisation. A joint statement issued after a Pakistan-US counter-terrorism dialogue in Islamabad on Tuesday had Washington lauding Islamabad's 'continued successes in containing terrorist entities that pose a threat' to the region. It would have been instructive if the US had furnished some instances of these successes, especially at a time when anti-India groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba and their proxies maintain extensive networks on Pakistani soil. India has said Munir's recent nuclear threats only reflect Pakistan's irresponsible attitude towards its nuclear arsenal and its role as a driver of instability across the region. (AP) Trump's claim that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May has certainly not endeared him to many in New Delhi's decision-making circles, and the latest joint statement too is unlikely to go down well, coming as it does in the wake of the nuclear brinkmanship by Munir during his latest US visit. India has said Munir's recent nuclear threats only reflect Pakistan's irresponsible attitude towards its nuclear arsenal and its role as a driver of instability across the region. Pakistan, especially in the areas bordering Afghanistan, continues to be home to all manner of terror groups that pose a clear danger to the region, and it makes little sense for the US to be seen as rewarding the Pakistani military, which has perfected the art of using terror as an instrument of State policy.
