Dubai traffic: Journey times cut by 80% on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road

Travel times on one of Dubai's busiest roads are set to be both quicker and shorter, as a result of the latest Dubai traffic project. The Roads and Transport Authority has revealed that it will open new exit and entry points from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road at the start of June. Allowing smoother exit and entry at Al Warqa neighbourhood, the RTA project will increase road capacity by 5,000 vehicles per hour and reduce travel times by 80 percent. Journey times will be reduced from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes, and distances have been cut from 5.7km to 1.5km on the busy route. The opening of the entry and exit point at Al Warqa 1 is the latest project making it easier for residents to get around in the neighbourhood. (Credit: RTA) Recently, the RTA completed traffic improvement works on Street 13 to serve residents and schoolgoers. An internal road development spanning approximately 8km, designed to improve traffic flow and make the road network more efficient. The RTA is also set to upgrade the internal road networks in Al Warqa 3 and 4. These works involve road paving, the construction of pedestrian walkways, pavements, and parking spaces, along with the implementation of cycling tracks exceeding 23 km in total length. (Credit: RTA) Al Warqa 1 will also see its existing roundabouts converted into signalised junctions with smart traffic lights, which is expected to improve traffic flow by up to 30 percent. These changes are in addition to a series of recently completed internal road development works in Al Warqa. These improvements include enhancements around the School of Research Science and near GEMS Royal Dubai School. As a result of these measures, congestion and delays in the school zone were cut by between 35 percent and 50 percent. RTA also added pedestrian walkways, pavements, vehicle access points and a fully integrated lighting system to the Mohammed Bin Rashid housing establishment in Al Warqa 4. These efforts are all part of the transport authority's commitment to improving infrastructure in residential areas as the city continues to grow. Spending Eid Al Adha in Dubai? This is how Eid Al Adha is traditionally celebrated in Dubai

The Eid Al Adha break is almost here, and we're set for a bumper four-day holiday in Dubai. One of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar, the festival is set to get underway in the first week of June. It's been confirmed that the holiday dates will begin on Thursday June 5 with Arafat Day followed by Eid Al Adha on Friday June 6, Saturday June 7 and Sunday June 8. And if you're new to Dubai, or just want a refresher, then you may not know the significance of the holiday and how it is celebrated in the emirate. Why Eid Al Adha is celebrated Eid Al Adha comes after the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca (Credit: Pexels. ) Eid Al Adha is the second of the two main festivals of Islam, after Eid Al Fitr, and falls in the twelfth and final month of the Islamic calendar. The annual occasion, known as the feast of sacrifice, marks the end of the Hajj season for Muslims across the world. Hajj is the Islamic pilgrimage to the Saudi Arabian city of Mecca, which is to be carried out by all capable Muslims at least once in their life, and begins on Dhu Al Hijjah 8. The pilgrimage starts the day before the scheduled public holiday dates in the UAE with Arafat Day on Dhu Al Hijjah 9 marking the beginning of the four-day break. Arafat Day commemorates a key event in the Islamic pilgrimage of Hajj and marks a day of spiritual reflection, unity, and supplication. Typically, Muslims all around the world, who are not in Mecca doing the pilgrimage, will fast on Arafat Day. It is not mandatory, but it is preferred. Eid Al Adha is then held on Dhu Al Hijjah 10, 11 and 12. How Dubai celebrates Eid Al Adha To mark the occasion, people in Dubai get four days off work and school, while a warm atmosphere of giving and joy is prevalent throughout the emirate. Muslims attend a special Eid prayer held at mosques throughout the city. Similar to Eid Al Fitr, Eid Al Adha promotes the importance of giving, family and feasts. The feast itself involves a ritual sacrifice of an animal, known as udhiya, and sharing the meat in three equal parts for family, friends and the less fortunate. In recent years, udhiya services have even become available on Careem. You can also expect special fireworks displays, cultural events, and major discounts at top attractions to be announced closer to the time. It is also a custom among the community to exchange gifts and donate to charitable causes during the festivities. Most Muslims tend to spend the majority of their first day at home or with their relatives. Days off in Dubai UAE public holidays 2025: When are all the public holidays this year?
