Fleeing suspect released pitbull from kennel during foot pursuit in south Bakersfield: police
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield police came to a home in the 3300 block of Margalo Court 8:35 p.m. Tuesday night for reports of someone violating a restraining order.
Officers say they made contact with the suspect identified as 26-year-old Marion Delouth III, in front of the home, but he fled into the backyard and released a large pitbull from its kennel. Fearing for their safety, an officer shot the dog after they say it aggressively charged at them.
The dog was wrapped in a white bed sheet and put in the back of pickup. Delouth was arrested and booked on charges of assaulting an officer.
No one else was hurt.

Sergeant Eric Celedon with Bakersfield Police Department released a statement to 17 News saying, 'For clarification, discharging a firearm by an officer at a dog is not considered an 'officer-involved-shooting', as defined by law.'
17 News went to the home to speak with the dog owner who was still in tears from the incident. She told 17 News his name is Mojo, a three-year-old American Bulldog she got for her boys while they were still playing football.
The boys moved out, and Mojo became her baby.
The dog owners have demanded answers from police to know why a taser or mace wasn't used instead of a gun.
Mojo's owners declined to go on camera because they said it won't change anything.
At last report, Mojo was transported to a veterinarian hospital where he's undergoing treatment for his injuries.

Hearing moved to July for driver charged in crash that killed Bakersfield married couple
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A preliminary hearing was postponed to mid-July in the case of a woman accused of driving drunk and hitting a rideshare vehicle, killing a married couple. Paul Brar, the attorney representing Anabell Aleyna Correa, was granted the postponement Monday after telling the court he has a trial starting in Los Angeles that would conflict with the previously scheduled June 9 date. The hearing is now set for July 16. Suspected drunken driver in SW Bakersfield crash that killed married couple admitted to drinking: search warrant Correa, 21, is facing two counts of second-degree murder, among other charges. She's accused of driving drunk early March 16 and running a red light, colliding with a rideshare vehicle carrying Max Austin Mooney and Desiree Paula Noelle Mooney, both 30. Max Mooney died at the scene. Desiree Mooney was pronounced dead at Kern Medical. Correa had a blood-alcohol content of 0.088%, above the legal limit of 0.08%, according to a court filing. She showed signs of being intoxicated — including slurred speech and bloodshot eyes — and told police she drank two 24-ounce cans of Twisted Tea, which contains alcohol, the filing says. USDA office in Bakersfield to stay open following Trump administration's reversal of decision
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Eight of the nine U.S. Department of Agriculture offices in California that were slated to close, including the location in Bakersfield, will remain open, according to a press release from Sen. Adam Schiff's office. The eight offices that will stay open are those in Bakersfield, Blythe, Los Angeles, Madera, Oxnard, Salinas, Woodland and Yreka. The offices in Mt. Shasta and the newly added Brea office were not removed from the termination list, according to Schiff. 'Following my call to the Trump administration to reverse their plans to close USDA offices across California, I am pleased to announce that Secretary Rollins has informed me of their work with the General Services Administration (GSA) to ensure that many of these USDA offices will remain open,' Schiff said in the release. 'Closing these vital centers will make it more difficult for farmers to access the essential resources farmers must be able to rely on.'
