Sacramento County ‘Clover Leaf Rapist' sentenced
(FOX40.COM) — A man convicted in three attacks against women in Sacramento County in late 2013 and early 2014 was sentenced to 82 years to life in prison Friday, the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office announced.
According to the DA's office, JD Simien was convicted by a jury of 'two counts of kidnapping to commit another crime, two counts of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual battery by restraint and assault with intent to commit rape/sodomy/oral copulation.'

Two of the three attacks occurred near the cloverleaf section of Madison Avenue and Interstate 80.
In addition to sexually assaulting and raping his victims, Simien sometimes took his victims' wallet and threatened to kill them if they reported the attack, the DA's office said. He also strangled all three women and stabbed one of his victims in the neck.
According to the DA's office, DNA recovered from the victims' clothes and the use of rape kits lead investigators to Simien.

12th defendant pleads guilty in Nantwi case
UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Another defendant in the murder case of Messiah Nantwi came forward in Oneida County Court on Friday for their first appearance. Nathan Palmer was in front of Judge Michael Nolan on Friday, June 13 to plead guilty to charges stemming from the alleged murder. His top charge is first-degree Hindering Prosecution, which is a Class D Felony. He also faces charges of first-degree Falsifying Business Records, a Class E Felony. Palmer was not originally indicted with the original ten defendants by a grand jury, making him the second person — after Joshua Bartlett — to come forward after the grand jury indictments. Because of that, the DA issued a Superior Court Information, or SCI, which works similarly to an indictment, but allows the defendant to come into court and answer the charges willingly. Palmer was released on his own recognizance and will now face two years in the Oneida County Jail. He will also be required to testify against the other co-defendants at trial and must resign from the State Department of Corrections. San Jose fraud prevention expert charged with healthcare fraud
(KRON) — A woman who worked as a security manager at Nvidia and regularly spoke as an expert on fraud prevention was charged with submitting 167 fraudulent healthcare claims against the Santa Clara-based tech company, the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office announced Friday. Faranak Firozan, 47, is accused of submitting the fraudulent claims between November 2020 and January 2024 to Nvidia's self-insured health plan, according to prosecutors. The DA's office said that many of the claims were either entirely made up or that bills were altered by changing service dates. 'Providers verified that services listed in her claims were either not performed at all or were duplicated claims,' the DA's office wrote. The scheme began to unravel in August 2024, according to prosecutors, after the California Department of Insurance received a suspected fraudulent claim referral from Cigna, which administered Nvidia's health plan. Firozan was charged with altering medical records with fraudulent intent and preparing false statements in connection with insurance claims. She also faces an added aggravated white-collar crime enhancement. Firozan is scheduled to be arraigned on July 15.
