Sapura Energy nets over RM500m in Thai offshore jobs from Chevron, PTTEP
SEB group chief executive officer Muhammad Zamri Jusoh said the awards build upon SEB's long-standing partnership with clients in Thailand, given the group's proven track record for similar offshore campaigns in the kingdom.
'It also demonstrates our strategy of bidding for projects that are aligned to the group's risk appetite, core capabilities, and vessel deployment efficiency,' he said in a statement today.
SEB said the contracts were awarded to its wholly owned subsidiary Sapura Energy (Thailand) Ltd (SETH), for an installation and removal campaign, and subsea inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) services.
It added the installation and removal contract, awarded by Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production Ltd and Chevron Offshore (Thailand) Ltd is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
SEB said the offshore installation and removal campaign will be executed by the group's engineering and construction team.
Meanwhile, the service orders for SEB's subsea IRM services were awarded by PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Ltd (PTTEP) with the scope of work comprising saturation diving operations for facilities in the offshore petroleum blocks in the Gulf of Thailand (G1/61 and G2/61 projects).
SEB said these operations would be executed by the group's operations and maintenance business segment, using SEB's dedicated subsea construction vessel, Sapura Constructor, equipped with accommodation for 120 personnel and diving support facilities for up to 15 divers.
'The works for subsea IRM have commenced in the second quarter of 2025. SEB is already doing subsea IRM works for PTTEP in Malaysia,' added the group. — Bernama

M'sian worker asked to chip in RM300 for colleague's office crush's birthday present
A Malaysian employee recently shared how they were asked to contribute a large sum of money for a colleague's office crush's birthday. 'In the workplace, the most dreaded hidden expenses are farewell parties, weddings, and birthdays — especially when it's for colleagues you're not even that close to,' the worker wrote in a Facebook post. The employee claimed that a colleague requested RM300 from them to help buy a speaker for a woman in the Human Resources department — someone the colleague allegedly had a crush on. 'Bro... RM300 is almost two weeks' worth of food for me, and you want me to chip in just so you can impress a girl?' he wrote. The irony, according to the employee, was that the colleague and the HR staff member didn't end up together despite the costly effort. 'She celebrated her birthday dinner with another guy. Then she resigned and joined a different company. 'And the guy? Still single. Still working at the same company,' he added. Netizens were amused by the story and largely agreed that it's unnecessary to spend a significant amount of money on someone you hardly know. 'There are still so many people like this — they want to celebrate their birthday but don't have the money, so they expect their friends to chip in and help them celebrate...' one user commented. 'I've experienced this before — it was my general manager's birthday, and everyone chipped in. And then what happened? The person who suggested the idea got a RM500 raise, and the rest of us? Nothing at all,' another shared. 'RM300 is my monthly insurance payment. If it's with close friends, I don't mind chipping in for a meal or drinks — but for something that expensive? Yeah, no thanks,' one more user wrote.

MoU to boost edible bird nest sector
Published on: Sunday, August 03, 2025 Published on: Sun, Aug 03, 2025 Text Size: Mohamad Sabu looking at bird nest products being displayed at the event. KOTA KINABALU: The Beluran Area Farmers' Organisation (PPK Beluran) and Nestlin Malaysia Sdn Bhd have entered into a 10-year partnership for the supply and purchase of edible bird's nests, valued at over RM60 million. Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the MoU involves the supply and purchase of both unprocessed and processed bird's nests. He added that the collaboration will position PPK Beluran as a main hub for the collection and processing of edible bird's nest in Sabah, while boosting the industry's growth in the state. 'The products will be exported to China, which highlights the industry's significant potential in Sabah,' he told reporters after witnessing the MoU exchange at the 2025 National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen's Day celebration here, Saturday. PPK Beluran was represented by its board chairman, Datuk James Ratib, who is also Sabah's Minister of Community Development and People's Wellbeing, while Nestlin Malaysia was represented by its chief executive officer, Datuk Sia Swee Seng. Meanwhile, Mohamad also witnessed another MoU exchange between the Farmers' Organisation Authority (LPP) and the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) for the development of pineapple cultivation in Sabah. The strategic five-year partnership involves technology transfers, technical support, and the expansion of participation among farmers and LPP members, with a total investment of RM500,000. LPP was represented by its director-general Amir Matamin, while LPNM was represented by its director-general Mohd Khairuzamri M Salleh. Mohamad said that aside from Johor, which is currently the leading pineapple producer in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak also have significant potential for large-scale commercial pineapple cultivation, not only to meet local demand but also for export purposes. He added that Sabah has kickstarted its pineapple cultivation on an area spanning 300 hectares in Sinua, Sook, via a collaboration between LPNM and the Sabah Land Development Board (SLDB), and has identified thousands of acres that could be utilised for pineapple cultivation. According to him, districts such as Kota Marudu, Beaufort, and other areas under SLDB's management have also shown promising prospects for commercial-scale cultivation. 'We encourage large-scale cultivation to not only ensure sufficient supply for the domestic market but also to penetrate international markets,' he added. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
