Oregon suspends receiver Jurrion Dickey

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Oregon coach Dan Lanning announced Tuesday that wide receiver Jurrion Dickey has been suspended indefinitely. Dickey, a former five-star recruit, has played in 15 games in two years with the Ducks, but has only had two catches for 14 yards. Lanning did not specify the reasons for Dickey's suspension, but said the team has two team rules, 'be respectful, be on time.' 'There's some pieces of that where I felt like he needed a break from us and we needed a break from that so we could focus on what's in front of us right now," Lanning said. 'Wishing him nothing but the best, as far as success and want to see him get back to where he can be a contributor somewhere; that might be here. That might be somewhere else.' The Ducks were ranked No. 7 in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll. The team was already thin at wide receiver with the loss of Evan Stewart, the Ducks' top returner who injured his knee in the offseason and could miss the season. Florida State transfer Malik Benson, senior Gary Bryant Jr. and redshirt juniors Kyler Kasper and Justius Lowe are expected to help fill the void. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Freeland tosses 7 1/3 strong innings to help Rockies beat Cardinals 3-0

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Kyle Freeland gave up five hits in a season-high 7 1/3 innings, Hunter Goodman hit a home run, and the Colorado Rockies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-0 on Tuesday night to snap an eight-game losing streak. Freeland (3-12) walked two and struck out two in his longest outing since a career-best 8 1/3-inning outing on July 9, 2017 against the Chicago White Sox. Victor Vodnik pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to earn his third save and clinch the Rockies' second shutout of the season after they blanked the Cardinals in Denver on July 23. Cardinals starter Matthew Liberatore (6-10) allowed three runs on four hits and a walk in four-plus innings after striking out the side in the first inning and retiring the first nine batters he faced. Goodman hit his two-run homer in the fourth inning and Kyle Farmer singled up the middle off Matt Svanson with one out in the fifth inning to expand the Rockies' lead to 3-0. Cardinals first baseman Willson Contreras left the game after the fifth inning with a right foot contusion after being hit by a pitch in the fourth inning. Tuesday night's game started after a 41-minute rain delay. Key moment Goodman hit his team-leading 23rd homer of the season 442 feet over the lower-deck seats in left and on to the concourse to give Colorado a 2-0 lead. It was the longest home run at Busch Stadium this season. Goodman has now homered in five of his last 12 games. Key stat Freeland struck out Jordan Walker to end the seventh inning for his 900th career strikeout. He became the third pitcher to record 900 strikeouts with the Rockies, joining Jorge De La Rosa and Germán Márquez. Up next Rockies LHP Austin Gomber (0-6, 6.52 ERA) faces Cardinals rookie RHP Michael McGreevy (4-2, 4.40) on Wednesday ___ AP MLB:

Lynx become first WNBA team to secure playoff berth ahead of showdowns with champion Liberty

The Minnesota Lynx are in the playoffs. And they didn't need a win Tuesday night to clinch their spot. In fact, they didn't even play. The Lynx became the first team to clinch a WNBA playoff spot this season thanks to the Indiana Fever's 81-80 loss to the Dallas Wings. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] And they're on pace to lock up the No. 1 overall seed, barring a collapse down the stretch. As of Tuesday, the 27-5 Lynx hold a 6.5-game lead over both the New York Liberty and the Atlanta Dream for the best record in the league with 12 games left in the regular season. And they've won three straight games without All-Star and MVP favorite Napheesa Collier, who remains sidelined with a sprained ankle that's expected to sideline her through Saturday's game against the Liberty at a minimum. The Lynx already defeated the Liberty on Sunday without Collier. They face two more consecutive games against the Liberty on Saturday and Tuesday. After that, they face another test in a road game against the Dream on Aug 21. Those games will mark Atlanta's and New York's best long-shot chances of chipping away at Minnesota's lead in the standings. The Lynx will enter the playoffs seeking to advance to the WNBA Finals for a second consecutive season. Last season, they lost to the Liberty in tightly contested five-game series. This time, they'll look to have home-court advantage secured against whatever opponent they face if they advance to the Finals again.
