
Pixxel Secures Second Defence Grant to Develop Advanced Space Imaging Payloads for IAF

Pixxel, a space technology company headquartered in Bengaluru, has secured a second grant under the Indian Ministry of Defence's iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence) initiative, aimed at accelerating indigenous innovation for the country's defence forces. The new SPARK Grant—awarded to its subsidiary, SpacePixxel Pvt Ltd—will support the development of hyperspectral and Mid-Wave Infrared (MWIR) payloads for the Indian Air Force.
The award, part of the iDEX DISC 8 Challenge 6.2, marks a continued collaboration between Pixxel and the Indian defence ecosystem. It builds on the company's earlier selection under the iDEX Prime (Space) Mission DefSpace Challenge in 2023, which focused on miniaturised multi-payload satellite development.
Pixxel, known for constructing what it claims is the world's highest-resolution hyperspectral satellite constellation, said it will now focus on delivering security-grade imaging technology designed for both airborne and space-based platforms. These next-generation payloads are expected to enhance India's remote sensing capabilities, enabling high-precision monitoring and analysis in strategic scenarios.
"This grant is a proud milestone in our journey to put India at the forefront of next-generation aerospace innovation," said Awais Ahmed, founder and CEO of Pixxel, in a statement. "We're honoured to deepen our partnership with the Government of India and advance our mission of building cutting-edge space infrastructure right here at home."
Hyperspectral imaging technology captures detailed spectral data across hundreds of wavelengths, offering advantages in detecting materials, identifying terrain changes, and monitoring environmental or military assets. The addition of MWIR capability would allow for enhanced thermal imaging, critical in low-light or night-time operations.

A Unified Framework For Inventory Optimization And Capacity Management

Modern supply chain operations present companies with two essential challenges: managing inventory levels properly to prevent excessive and insufficient stock and maintaining production capacity that matches changing market demands. The framework consists of four core pillars: Knowing when and how much to reorder to meet demand without overstocking is at the heart of effective inventory management. ROP. = dL + Z * σL Where: This model ensures optimal replenishment timing and quantity while incorporating variability and service level requirements. Meeting demand is not just about having inventory—it's about the ability to process it. The next step is to measure capacity utilization across production or assembly stations: Utilization(U) = Actual Throughput / Machine Capacity A station operating near or at full utilization (>90%) may become a bottleneck, limiting overall throughput. This metric must account for both initial production and any rework or retesting loops that increase the effective load on machinery. Once high-utilization stations are identified, companies must determine: A bottleneck analysis quantifies the cost of capacity constraints in terms of lost orders and revenue compared to the investment required to expand capacity. This provides leadership with a clear ROI case for capital expenditure. Production systems seldom operate in a steady state. The IICO framework includes a feedback loop: This cycle ensures that capacity adjustments and inventory policies evolve as demand, process efficiency and supplier reliability change. While this framework originated from a real-world solution implemented within a high-stakes aerospace supply chain, its principles apply broadly to any operation where: The IICO framework provides a scalable, adaptable roadmap for synchronizing procurement, inventory management and production capacity in industries ranging from electronics to pharmaceuticals, automotive to luxury goods. By bridging inventory optimization and capacity management, organizations avoid a common pitfall: addressing stock levels without considering production constraints. Conversely, adding capacity without aligning inventory policies risks idle assets or ongoing shortages. A unified approach ensures: Operational agility is non-negotiable in a world of rising customer expectations and global supply chain disruptions. The IICO framework offers a structured, actionable pathway for companies balancing cost, capacity and customer satisfaction. Trump says unilateral tariffs to be set within weeks
US president Donald Trump plans to inform trading partners of unilateral US tariff rates in the coming weeks, as a July deadline approaches for steeper levies to kick in on dozens of economies. "We're going to be sending letters out in about a week and a half, two weeks, to countries telling them what the deal is," Trump told reporters late on Wednesday, at the Kennedy Center in Washington where he was attending a theatre performance. In April, Trump imposed a blanket 10 percent tariff on most US trading partners and unveiled higher individual rates on dozens of economies including India and the European Union -- although he swiftly paused the elevated rates. While negotiations have been ongoing, the pause on those higher duties is due to expire on July 9. So far, Washington has only announced a trade deal with the UK, alongside a temporary tariff de-escalation with China. Tensions remain elevated between the world's two biggest economies, with Washington recently accusing Beijing of slow-walking export approvals for rare earth minerals. It remains unclear if the steeper levies will return for all countries in early July. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told lawmakers earlier Wednesday that an extended pause is possible for those "negotiating in good faith." "There are 18 important trading partners. We are working toward deals on those," he said. Bessent said it is likely that for countries or trading blocs such as the EU, Washington would decide to "roll the date forward to continue the good faith negotiations." The Treasury chief added that following conversations with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, "it's my belief that with smaller countries where we have lower levels of trade, we may be able to do a one-size-fits-all regional deal." Trump's wide-ranging tariffs and higher rates on goods from China have roiled financial markets, snagged supply chains and weighed on consumer sentiment.
