RBPF investigations revealed that Lim Yok Yuan (pic) used a modus operandi of contacting victims via WhatsApp and deceiving them into investing in various fake business schemes.
These included restaurant investments, goods imported from China and in some cases, posing as an agent for domestic helper employment.
The victims were asked to make payments via bank transfers or in cash.
The proposed business deals were found to be non-existent.
The suspect is being investigated under Section 420 of Chapter 22 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property. If found guilty, the offence carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to seven years and a fine.
The Cyber Crime Investigation Division is continuing its investigation into the cases, which have resulted in losses amounting to approximately BND133,000 (US$103,986). - Borneo Bulletin/ANN

Police seek help from TikTok over fake claim
KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities are seeking information from TikTok in connection with a user who claimed to be a surgeon involved in the autopsy of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) are jointly investigating the matter. 'We are waiting for TikTok to provide information to support the investigation. I leave it to the police and MCMC to obtain the details and take appropriate legal action.' Fahmi earlier attended an arts and culture promotion programme at the People's Housing Project in Kerinchi. The issue came to light after an individual posted online that he had attended the student's autopsy. Fahmi had earlier stated that the TikTok account during a livestream alleged the user was present at the post-mortem on Aug 10. However, the Health Ministry verified that he was neither a specialist nor a ministry staff member. Authorities are also investigating the account '@berjuanguntukzara' for disseminating inaccurate information, including conspiracy theories and bullying-related content. Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M Kumar said the case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act. Zara Qairina was found unconscious after reportedly falling from the third floor of her school hostel in Papar on July 16 and died the following day at Queen Elizabeth Hospital I.

BOGOTÁ: Gunmen shot dead at least seven people at a pool hall in the Ecuadoran city of Santo Domingo, police said Sunday, in the country's latest gruesome massacre amid soaring gang violence. "Seven people died from gunshot wounds" at a pool hall in the nightlife district of Santo Domingo, about 150 kilometres (93 miles) west of the capital Quito, national police said in a WhatsApp group with reporters. Police said they were investigating the incident and hunting for those responsible. Purported security camera footage of the massacre circulating online showed several attackers wearing black masks open fire on two men standing at the entrance to the pool hall, sending pedestrians scrambling. The gunmen then entered the hall and continued shooting, fleeing before a police vehicle approached. AFP has not yet independently verified the footage. According to local media, preliminary investigations indicated that the killings may be related to organised crime in the region. A similar pool hall massacre took place last month in the southwestern tourist city of General Villamil Playas, leaving at least nine dead. And in April, armed men killed 12 people at a cockfighting ring around 30km from Santo Domingo. Once considered a bastion of peace in Latin America, Ecuador has been plunged into crisis after years of expansion by transnational cartels that use its ports to ship drugs to the United States and Europe.
