The Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly posing as an Army officer and duping over 25 women by creating fake matrimonial profiles. He was arrested in Varanasi. The police also recovered printing papers that are used for creating these fake ID cards.(Representational)
The accused defrauded these women of ₹40 lakh and had been cheating them for the past six years, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Saravanan Thangamani.
The accused, Dayali Uppal, is a resident of the NTPC Police Station, District Pedapalli, Telangana. "Today in Thana, Chitaipur Commissionerate Varanasi, we arrested one suspected person named Dayali Upaliya, who is a resident of NTPC Police station, District Pedapalli, Telangana.
We found out that he had cheated almost 25 plus women by creating fake matrimonial profiles and has defrauded these women to the tune of ₹40 lakhs so far and he has been doing it for the last six years," Thangamani told ANI.
"We recovered army uniforms from him. He also has in his custody fake name plates in the names of Major Amit and Major Joseph. In addition to this, we also obtained a few fake ID cards from central police organisations, including the National Investigation Agency, the Territorial Army, and the Jammu & Kashmir Police," he further said.
The police also recovered printing papers that are used for creating these fake ID cards.
"We also got hold of the printing materials, the papers that are used for creating these fake ID cards, and it also came to our notice that he had already married three women by posing himself as an army officer. Based on the complaint by a lady from Chandauli district who is presently residing in Commissionerate Varanasi, she had made a complaint that she was in a relationship with him and when she was asking to legalise the marriage and asking for documents, he was not ready to give them...Further legal action is being taken...," DCP Crime T Saravanan added.
The accused has been arrested in relation to FIR under Sections 115 (2), 351(2), 318(4), 319(2), 338, 336(3), 204, 205, 235 BNS and 6 Arms Act.
When asked, accused Dalai Uppal told that he used to contact different girls through a matrimonial site and trap them in love by telling them that he is an army officer and take a huge amount of money from them.
"I trapped the plaintiff in a love trap through a matrimonial site by telling them that I am an army officer by the name of Joseph and married her about five years ago. After marriage, I and the plaintiff lived together. To date, I have taken about six lakh rupees from the plaintiff. The plaintiff is an officer in the bank. When she was not at home, I used to talk to other girls. To date, I am in contact with about twenty-five girls from different states: Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand and West Bengal. I am in contact with them and have taken money from them. I had searched the IDs of army officers on the internet and made them myself using a printer. Using them, I could easily trap girls in my love trap," he said.
He said that to impress the girls, he made army uniforms, medals, a fake name plate, fake ID cards of the Army, NIA, Jammu Kashmir Police, Territorial Army and also bought a fake pistol.
"So that no one suspects that I am not in the army. I used to talk to different girls using different fake names and meet them. That is why I had made fake ID cards in different names. I have got my fake ID card, army uniform, printer machine, medals, name plate, Aadhar card and fake pistol recovered by the police. Accepting my crime, I am repeatedly apologising for my mistake," he added. (ANI)

Maharashtra: Family Of Kargil War Veteran Harassed By Mob In Pune, Forced To Prove Indian Citizenship

The family of a Kargil War veteran in Pune has alleged that a mob barged into their home late Saturday night, demanding proof of their Indian citizenship and accusing them of being illegal immigrants. The incident took place in the Chandannagar area of Pune around 11:30 PM. The family claims that members of the Bajrang Dal, accompanied by some police personnel in plain clothes, entered their house and accused them of being Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants. Irshad Shaikh, brother of Army veteran Hakimuddin Shaikh, said, "We are proud Indians. Our family members, since our forefathers, have served the nation for 130 years in various ranks and services, and yet, we were treated like criminals in our own home." He added, "A mob of 70-80 people entered my house and the houses of relatives who reside next to me. They started asking us to prove our nationality. We tried to show our IDs, but they were not listening to us and created chaos. Some police personnel in civil uniform were with them, too." Hakimuddin's nephew, Shamshad Shaikh, shared a similar account. "Around 11:45 pm, they banged loudly on our door. Once open, 5-7 people entered the house. There were a total of 80 people... They started saying that without wasting time, show your Aadhaar card; otherwise, we will kill you. Upon showing, they claimed our Aadhaar cards were fake. We do not know them, but they told us that they are from Bajrang Dal... The police came in civil dress, so we were not able to identify them initially." However, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar denied police involvement in the incident. He said, "The family has not made any allegations of the presence of police in the crowd, and there was indeed no police presence in it." #WATCH | Maharashtra | Army veteran's family allegedly assaulted by mob in Pune and asked to show proof of Indian citizenship Commissioner of Police, Amitesh Kumar says, "An offence of unlawful assembly has been registered against people who gathered there and were raising… — ANI (@ANI) July 30, 2025 The police have registered a case of unlawful assembly against the individuals who allegedly entered the home and raised slogans. "Anti-Terror Law UAPA Can't Be Invoked": What Court Said In Malegaon Verdict

New Delhi: All seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur and former Army officer Lt Col Prasad Shrikant Purohit, have been acquitted by a special NIA court in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, in which six people died and may were injured. The Special NIA court said that the prosecution failed to prove the case; accused deserve benefit of doubt. They have been acquitted of all charges of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Arms Act and other charges. The blast took place on September 29, 2008, in Malegaon, a communally sensitive town in Maharashtra. The explosion occurred during the month of Ramzan and just before the festival of Navratri. Here are the 5 big things court said while delivering the verdict: Prosecution proved that a blast occurred in Malegaon, but failed to prove that a bomb was placed in that motorcycle. Injured count not 101, but 95. Even medical certificates were manipulated. Though RDX was brought and used is the allegation, there is no evidence of storage of RDX in Lt Colonel Purohit's house and no evidence to show he assembled it. The motorcycle chassis number was wiped out and the engine number is under doubt. There is no evidence to show Pragya Thakur is the owner and was in possession of the bike. No doubt terror has no religion, but conviction cannot happen based on the evidence presented. UAPA will not be invoked in this case as sanction was not taken as per rules. Both the sanction orders of the UAPA in the case are defective.

"No Evidence": Pragya Thakur, Ex BJP MP, Acquitted In Malegaon Blast Case

Mumbai: Former BJP MP Pragya Thakur was today acquitted of all charges in the 2008 Malegaon blast case after a Mumbai court said there is no evidence to establish that the bike, allegedly used in the blast that claimed six lives, belonged to her. The judge noted that while the prosecution had proved that the blast happened, it had failed to establish that the explosive was fitted on the LML Freedom motorcycle allegedly belonging to Ms Thakur. "The motorbike's chassis number was wiped out and engine number is in doubt. There is no evidence to show Sadhvi (Pragya Thakur) is the owner and no evidence to show she was in possession of the vehicle," the judge said, acquitting her after what has been one of the longest terror trials in the country. Today's verdict caps a 17-year journey that saw Pragya Thakur, daughter of an Ayurvedic practitioner in Madhya Pradesh, make national headlines after being accused of plotting terror attacks to avenge earlier terror strikes such as the 2006 Mumbai train blasts. Then in her late 30s, Ms Thakur was called the face of "Hindu terror", a term that gained currency after the 2008 blasts in Malegaon. She was accused of arranging manpower for the blast, while her co-accused, former Army officer Prasad Purohit, provided the explosives. Both were acquitted today, along with five others.
