Kendrick Lamar's GNX climbs back onto five U.K. charts as he and SZA bring the Grand National Tour ... More to Europe, with U.K. fans driving a resurgence. After Kendrick Lamar and SZA wrapped the American leg of their joint Grand National Tour, the two superstars headed to Europe in early July. They began their run with performances in Germany, then crossed over to the United Kingdom for a handful of dates throughout the month. The chart-toppers are scheduled to perform in cities like Glasgow, Birmingham, Cardiff, and London. Fans of both artists — especially Lamar — have shown their excitement by buying and streaming his latest album GNX in huge numbers, turning it into a chart smash once again.
Kendrick Lamar's GNX Returns
Thanks to the surge in attention surrounding Lamar's tour, GNX returns to four U.K. rankings this week. The full-length, which dropped in late 2024, appears in the lower reaches of the Official Physical Albums (No. 83), Official Albums Streaming (No. 89), Official Albums (No. 92), and Official Albums Sales charts (No. 93).
Back Inside the Top 10
GNX is also present on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Albums chart, but unlike on the other four tallies, the full-length doesn't need to return. Lamar's fans have kept the project on that genre-specific ranking for months. This week, it lifts back into the top 10, surging from No. 11 to No. 8.
Kendrick Lamar Claims Five Charting Albums
Lamar fills five spaces on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Albums tally this week, with GNX leading the way. That project is followed by To Pimp a Butterfly, good kid, m.A.A.d city, DAMN., and Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, which come in at Nos. 11, 22, 26, and 39, respectively. The first four of Lamar's efforts climb, while the latter reappears on the ranking.
GNX Has Spent Months on the U.K. Charts
GNX has spent the most time on the Official Albums chart, the most competitive list of releases currently loved by U.K. residents. On that roster, Lamar's latest is up to 28 stints on the roster. The set has earned the shortest stay on the Official Physical Albums tally, where it only hits 20 weeks this time around. The bestselling release has also landed 20-plus moments on the other three rosters throughout its months-long lifetime.

Oti Mabuse ‘delighted' as she receives Freedom of the City of London

Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse has received the Freedom of the City of London. The 34-year-old South African has been recognised for her 'significant achievements in contemporary dance and her charitable work'. She has had a successful dancing career, winning the South African Latin American championships eight times and is one of the most successful professionals to have appeared on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, having won the show two years in a row. To be following in the footsteps of legends of the arts and entertainment industry, including Sir Matthew Bourne, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Cameron Mackintosh, Giles Terera, and Strictly's very own Len Goodman, feels quite remarkable Mabuse, who attended a ceremony at Guildhall with family and friends on Wednesday, said: 'I am delighted to have received the Freedom of the City of London for my dance and charitable work, and I am very grateful to Chris Hayward and Keith Bottomley for nominating me. 'To be following in the footsteps of legends of the arts and entertainment industry, including Sir Matthew Bourne, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Cameron Mackintosh, Giles Terera, and Strictly's very own Len Goodman, feels quite remarkable.' Mr Hayward is the policy chairman of the City of London Corporation, while Mr Bottomley is the sheriff-elect of the City of London. Former Strictly head judge Goodman died in 2023 aged 78. Mabuse won Strictly in 2019 and 2020 and has also appeared on The Greatest Dancer as a dance captain and as a judge on ITV's Dancing on Ice. Mr Hayward said: 'Having won a clutch of dance titles during her career and a place in our hearts, mostly, down to her appearances on the hugely popular 'Strictly', I am sure that Oti's Freedom will be welcomed warmly by her many admirers. 'Away from the dance world, her work with Unicef to raise awareness of the support needed by premature babies and their mothers, is highly commendable, and I am very happy to join my colleague, Keith Bottomley, in nominating Oti for the Freedom.' Mr Bottomley said: 'As well as impressing us on the dance floor, Oti Mabuse's charitable work with women and young people in communities across London, and overseas with Unicef, deserves our admiration and respect. 'It has been a pleasure to nominate Oti to be admitted into the Freedom, and I am sure that she will have very happy memories of today for many years to come.' The tradition of the freedom of the city is believed to date back to 1237. Past recipients include comedian, actor and writer Sir Lenny Henry and Lady Mary Peters, who won an Olympic gold medal in the athletics pentathlon in 1972, as well as Sir Chris Hoy and his wife, Lady Sarra Hoy.

Ibiza Rocks cancels all events after two British men die at resort in a fortnight

A popular Ibiza hotel has cancelled all of its upcoming events after two British men died in separate incidents in the space of two weeks. Gary Kelly, a 19-year-old ice hockey player from Scotland, died at Ibiza Rocks hotel on Monday. His death came just two weeks after another Scottish tourist, 26-year-old Evan Thomson, died after falling off a balcony on 7 July. Rapper Dizzee Rascal and drum and bass band Rudimental were set to take the stage in the famous resort this week, but both performances have been cancelled. The hotel said its advertised events would be cancelled due to the 'seriousness of the situation and out of respect for those involved'. It added in a statement: 'We are deeply shocked and devastated by the recent incidents that have tragically occurred. Our priority is to support those affected and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and to fully assist the authorities with their investigations. 'The safety and wellbeing of our guests has, and always will remain, our highest priority.' The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said it is supporting the families of two British men who died in separate incidents in Spain, adding that it is in contact with local authorities. Mr Kelly played for the Dundee Stars, which said it was 'truly devastated' to hear of his passing. 'Everyone at the club including players, staff, management, and ownership are heartbroken to hear this tragic news,' it added. 'Gary was hugely talented and charismatic individual who had a great future ahead of him. His loss will impact many in the ice hockey community and beyond. He will be sadly missed.' The Aberdeen Lynx Ice Hockey Team said it was 'heartbroken' to hear of the death of 'one of our brightest young stars'. 'Gary was more than just a talented hockey player — he was a young man full of heart, passion, and dedication. On the ice, he gave everything he had. Off the ice, he brought energy, kindness, and an infectious love of life that lifted everyone around him. 'He wore his heart on his sleeve, and that spirit left a lasting mark on our team, our club, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. 'Rest easy, Gary — you will always be one of our brightest stars.' Other ice hockey teams including The Whitley Warriors, for whom Mr Kelly played briefly, and The Glasgow Clan, also paid tribute to Mr Kelly. Earlier this month, Lel Kellighan, mother of Evan Thomson, confirmed his death on social media. 'I'm absolutely heartbroken to write and tell you all, earlier this week my son Evan was in a tragic accident whilst on holiday with his friends in Ibiza and sadly passed away,' she said. 'We are all absolutely broken. Please allow us some time.' Solve the daily Crossword
