The Chicago Bulls are navigating a rebuild and have now missed the postseason in seven of the past eight seasons.
Still in a contract stalemate with Josh Giddey this summer, the team could look to hand him a long-term extension as part of its future alongside Matas Buzelis, Isaac Okoro and No. 12 overall pick Noa Essengue. With solid young frontcourt pieces in place, it wouldn't be surprising if the team moved on from an underwhelming forward in the near future.
Mark Morales-Smith of SI.com recently put together a mock trade that would land the Bulls a potential star on the wing amid their rebuilding effort.
Here's Morales-Smith's proposed trade:
Bulls receive: RJ Barrett
Raptors receive: Patrick Williams, Jevon Carter, first-round pick
Williams has been largely underwhelming for Chicago since being selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Even so, the Bulls gave him a five-year, $90 million extension in June 2024.

Moving on from Williams for Barrett — who has All-Star potential — would fit Chicago's rebuild and provide the team with a talented wing to pair with its young core. He'd also presumably step in as Chicago's No. 1 scoring option.
With Coby White on an expiring contract, finding a replacement now could be a viable alternative to offering him a lucrative deal next offseason.
Barrett would be an upgrade for Chicago and has averaged at least 19.6 points per game in four consecutive seasons. In his first full season with Toronto in 2024-25, he averaged 21.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists across 32.2 minutes per game in 58 regular-season outings.

Everything we know about the 2025-26 NBA schedule release

The NBA schedule is being released piecemeal. With a new media rights deal that is seeing games broadcast on NBC (Peacock) and Amazon Prime, the league this week has slowly revealed a selection of nationally broadcast games on key dates. Still, with the NBA news cycle in a downturn, the league is looking to build excitement ahead of the 2025-26 season, so further announcements are expected in the coming days. For example, the NBA still hasn't touched on its plans for the inaugural season of NBA on Prime, which is set to tip off Friday, Oct. 24 with a double-header. Thunder to face Cavaliers on MLK Day in 2025-26 regular season

Even though August is usually a desert of NBA content, the middle of the month provides an oasis. The league is set to release its 2025-26 regular season schedule on Thursday, Aug. 14. A couple of days before, a few key matchups have already been revealed. The NBA revealed its Opening Week and Christmas 2025 schedule. It shouldn't be surprising to see the Oklahoma City Thunder heavily featured in both. The NBA champion will be involved in two of the biggest days of the regular season. The Thunder will host the Houston Rockets for the 2025-26 Opening Night on Tuesday, Oct. 21. As tradition, they will celebrate their NBA championship with a pregame banner drop and ring ceremony. Kevin Durant's attendance across the court gives this matchup some extra juice as it will start the NBC era. The Thunder will then host the San Antonio Spurs for their Christmas contest. The NBA has leaned on the Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama rivalry. That'll be highlighted once again with a 1:30 p.m. CT tipoff on ABC and ESPN. That's not the only holiday the Thunder will play on, though. The NBA announced on Tuesday that they will be part of a four-game slate on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It'll be a marquee matchup too as a possible 2026 NBA Finals preview. The Thunder will travel on the road to face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday, Jan. 19. The 1:30 p.m. CT tipoff will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock. Both had the NBA's best records last season as the sole 60-plus win teams. With the rosters mostly the same, they'll be in the title conversations again. The Thunder enter the 2025-26 season as a popular pick to repeat as NBA champions.
