On the occasion, the ministers laid the foundation stone for an integrated township at the YTPS site, which will be developed on 55 acres at an estimated cost of ₹970 crore. As part of the Vanamahotsavam celebrations, the ministers planted Ikka saplings on the premises. They later interacted with landless residents in the area and assured them of employment opportunities by 15th August.
The YTPS project was initially undertaken by the previous government in 2015, aiming to build five units of 800 MW each. Construction began in 2017, with the original project estimate of ₹30,000 crore now seeing a cost overrun of ₹5,000 crore.
The second unit of the plant was inaugurated by the Chief Minister on 7th December last year. The third and fourth units are nearing completion and are expected to be operational by the end of this year. The fifth and final unit is scheduled for completion by March 2026.
To accommodate plant employees, a separate residential township will also be constructed over 60 acres in Dubbatanda, located three kilometres from the plant site.

Govt. to develop around 13,000 km road network, says Deputy CM
The State government has embarked upon an ambitious programme for development of around 13,000 km road network across the State. It is proposed to develop 7,947 km roads through 17 packages under the Panchayat Raj department and the development through Roads and Buildings department will account for another 5,190 km in equal number of packages. The government is in the process of calling for tenders for the proposed road works approved by the State Cabinet so that works can be started at the earliest, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said. The Deputy Chief Minister stressed the need for contractors to become partners in Telangana Rising and the government was firm on providing opportunities to small contractors too. A meeting with bankers has been arranged shortly to financially encourage contractors. Mr. Bhatti Vikramarka was speaking at a meeting convened on HAM (Hybrid Annuity Model) roads here on Tuesday. He lamented that the BRS government left behind arrears of ₹45,000 crore pertaining to development works as legacy to the present government. The State government was focussing not only on welfare programmes but also on advancing infrastructure, industries, education and healthcare sectors as part of Telangana Rising. He acknowledged that the government was aware of the contractors' problems recalling that the previous dispensation entered into agreements for development works worth ₹1.75 lakh crore. It had however issued tokens for works estimated to cost ₹45,000 crore but failed to clear dues leaving behind financial burden on the present government. The situation was gradually improving as Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Ministers and senior officials were focussing on the matter and as part of it, steps had been initiated to ensure that contractors overcame their difficulties. The government considered contractors, industrialists and investors as partners in wealth creation and was working with a humanitarian approach. He said some roads needed to be converted into four lane ones in view of the traffic requirements and directed the officials concerned to prepare list of such roads so that it could be placed before the Cabinet for approval. As part of the works, the government would contribute 40% of funds required for HAM rosds and was working out modalities to raise necessary resources.

SUDA Master Plan notified; expanded limits left out
Khammam: The Stambhadri Urban Development Authority (SUDA) on Wednesday notified its much-delayed Draft Master Plan, covering an area of 571.83 sq km, but crucially excluding the expanded limits as notified in October 2023 under GO MS No: 185. The Draft Master Plan, now open for public suggestions and objections for a period of 90 days, encompasses the jurisdiction of Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) and 45 revenue villages across seven mandals — Wyra, Khammam Rural, Kusumanchi, Mudigonda, Chintakani, Raghunadhapalem, and Konijerla. The plan was originally commissioned in November 2019 by the then BRS government, aiming for a horizon year of 2041. The project was undertaken by Bengaluru-based Centre for Symbiosis of Technology, Environment and Management (STEM), in partnership with AARVEE Associates, Hyderabad. After completion in November 2021, the plan remained in limbo due to the need for technical and spatial modifications. However, following the change in administration, the Congress government expanded SUDA's jurisdiction through a government order issued in October 2023, bringing in Madhira and Sathupalli municipalities and 279 villages, while excluding agency areas. These newly added areas were designated as a 'Development Area'. Despite the formal expansion, the current draft notification remains restricted to the earlier SUDA limits. Speaking to The Hans India, former SUDA Chairman Bachu Vijay Kumar questioned the timing and intent behind the expansion. 'If the government was planning to notify the already-prepared draft, what was the necessity to expand the SUDA limits? The public deserves clarity on development plans for the newly included areas,' he said. He urged district ministers Bhatti Vikramarka, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, and Tummala Nageswara Rao to explain how the new jurisdictions will be integrated into the urban development framework. Officials indicated that the notified Master Plan will guide urban growth until 2050. Significantly, the notification process is being undertaken in the absence of a functional SUDA governing body, which was dissolved by the Congress government shortly after assuming office in 2023.

Stop Srisailam water diversion: Bhatti
Hyderabad: Deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday urged Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu to immediately halt the diversion of 11 TMC of water per day through the Pothireddypadu lift irrigation system from the upper reaches of the Srisailam Dam. "Drawal of just 1 TMC of water per day via the left canal of Nagarjuna Sagar irrigates lakhs of acres. Diverting 11 TMC daily through Pothireddypadu causes severe injustice to farmers in the erstwhile Nalgonda and Khammam districts. This diversion would result in the Srisailam reservoir being emptied within just 25 days," Bhatti said, addressing a public meeting after laying the foundation stone for the Jawahar Lift Irrigation Scheme, being constructed at a cost of 600 crore—in Vangaveedu, Madhira assembly constituency, alongside ministers N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Vakiti Srihari. During the UPA govt's tenure, he had appealed to Sonia Gandhi to exclude the seven tribal mandals of the Bhadrachalam division from the Polavaram project's submergence area, which were indeed excluded through legal amendments. However, the subsequent BJP govt at the Centre and the BRS govt in the state issued an ordinance handing over two lakh acres of tribal land to the Polavaram project. He emphasised that only after Telangana's irrigation projects upstream of the Godavari are completed and the state's share of both net and flood waters is clearly determined, should the AP govt raise the issue of Banakacherla. Highlighting the significance of the Jawahar Lift Irrigation Scheme, Bhatti pointed out that, despite raising the issue in the assembly for ten years, the previous BRS govt neglected the project. "Farmers in the tail-end regions of Madhira constituency have long suffered, as the water flow path enters AP territory before returning to Telangana. After the Congress assumed power, the irrigation minister sanctioned 600 crore for the scheme, which will irrigate 30,000 acres. Madhira constituency has five mandals, each with a natural water source between every two mandals.
