Emmerdale makes 'last minute' change as boss says 'it felt right'
Monday's (July 28) episode of the ITV soap, will begin with a specially filmed scene celebrating the Lionesses' momentous victory over Spain in the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 final.
The opening of the episode will see Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) chatting with Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) about Sunday's (July 27) incredible football match.
Viewers will also get a glimpse of the aftermath of a lively celebration at the Woolpack pub, with the disarray clearly indicating the villagers had gathered en masse to watch the Lionesses make history.
This scene was a last-minute addition, filmed with the hopeful anticipation of an England win, allowing Emmerdale to capture and reflect the national excitement surrounding the Lionesses' triumph.
Producer Laura Shaw said: "With the nation getting behind the Lionesses. We knew the fictional characters in Emmerdale would've been doing just the same so it felt right and proper that we should reflect this result on the show."
England defended their European title after beating Spain 3-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in Basel, Switzerland, on Sunday, after a dramatic tournement that saw the Lionesses fight until the very end.
After needing to recover from an opening loss to France just to make it out of the group stage, and then play 120 minutes against both Sweden and Italy to reach the final, England again came from behind on the night and went the distance as Alessia Russo cancelled out Mariona Caldentey's opener.
After seeing goalkeeper Hannah Hampton make two key saves before Chloe Kelly's winning spot-kick, manager Sarina Wiegman called it 'the most chaotic and ridiculous tournament we have played'
Emmerdale air at 7.30pm weeknights on ITV1 and STV or from 7am on ITVX and STV Player.

Bologna submit bid for West Bromwich Albion defender Torbjorn Heggem
Bologna have tabled a €6.5m bid to buy West Bromwich Albion centre-back Torbjörn Heggem. The 26-year-old Norway international was a stand-out performer in the Championship last season and has started to attract top flight interest. Bologna, who finished fifth in Serie A last season and won the Coppa Italia, are adding to their squad this summer and see Heggem as a player with potential. They have already submitted an opening offer for West Brom's player of the year and hope to do business ahead of the season opener on August 23. Advertisement West Brom want to keep their best players together this season as they target a promotion push under new head coach Ryan Mason, but big-money offers could change their stance. Heggem is recognised as one of the most valuable assets despite only signing for the club last summer on a three-year deal from Swedish side IF Brommapojkarna. Previous big earners like John Swift, Grady Diangana, and Semi Ajayi have been moved this summer after their contracts expired. That has allowed the club to bring in two new centre backs in Nat Phillips and George Campbell as well as striker Aune Heggebo who joined for around £4.7 million. Heggem made 45 appearances in all competitions in 2024-25, scoring once and providing two assists. West Brom endured a high amount of managerial turnover last season. Carlos Corberan left his role as head coach to join Valencia in December, with former West Brom player Chris Brunt stepping in as interim manager. Tony Mowbray was appointed the following month, returning to West Brom 16 years after he initially left the side to join Celtic, though he was sacked in April after falling out of the promotion race following a poor run of results. Another former player, James Morrison, took over on an interim basis until the end of the season. Ryan Mason was appointed as West Brom head coach in early June after spending the last seven years on the coaching staff at Tottenham Hotspur. Florian Plettenberg, the Sky Sports Germany journalist, now claims that club-to-club talks are well underway and personal terms have ALREADY been agreed between the Reds and Newcastle. Talks between LFC and Newcastle are progressing 'Talks between Newcastle and Liverpool over Alexander Isak are progressing well,' he wrote on X.
