Slowly taking over my social feeds as the hottest nail look of summer 2025, the beauty of beach nails lies in their versatility. With no passport required, your nails can be your ticket to a tropical coral reef complete with 3D ocean critters and a rainbow of colours or a verdant coastline dotted with the prettiest seashells and shimmering pearls.
Ahead, I caught up with two nail experts to break down exactly what makes beach nails so appealing for summer.

What are beach nails?
Beach nails are a total celebration of the spirit of summer, which means that, unlike more classic manicures like French tips, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to this look. There is one thing that unites them all, though— they feel special. 'Clients rarely choose beach nails for everyday wear; they have a celebratory feel and act more like an accessory to complete their holiday look,' explains nail artist and founder of MVK nail salons, Viktoria Kolodii.
Thanks to the free-spirited nature of the trend, beach nails are undeniably a manicure that's made to suit you. 'Whether you're going on a coastal getaway or just want to embrace the summer mood, you can keep beach nails simple and neutral or go wild with pastels, bright shades and 3D elements,' explains nail artist Stacey Machin.

Of course, when you think of the beach, certain things will likely spring to mind: marine hues, sun-drenched pastels and seashell textures to name a few. 'We draw inspiration from everything associated with the sea and summer for beach nails,' says Kolodii. 'Think sunsets, sand, waves and coral, with 3D gel techniques being used to the effect of droplets or sea foam, and decorative details like tiny pearls, starfish, nail stickers and themed nail stickers adding to the overall aesthetic.'
The best beach manicures seem to have one thing in common: they take a multifaceted approach to nail design with various techniques, colours and finishes used. 'Shells and starfish are easy to incorporate into a manicure and can be painted with normal and 3D gel, while chrome powders can be used to give a mermaid-core pearlescent effect along with metallics to create embellished oyster nails,' says Machin. Combine embellishments like beads and pearls with more sculpted details like flowers, and you're on track for one of the most joyful manicures ever.

How long do beach nails take to do?
Some of the beach nails I've seen on my social feeds lately are seriously intricate, so I was keen to find out if this is the kind of manicure that you can book in for last-minute before you head to the airport. While it all depends on the amount of detail and 3D sculpting you opt for, Machin suggests leaving between one and a half to three hours for your beach nails salon appointment.

Don't have the time? It's possible to recreate a beachy manicure at home: 'There are plenty of ready-made decorations available, like rhinestones, shells or tiny nail stickers, that are easy to apply using nail glue,' says Kolodii. As for polish, she suggests looking for options with a pearlescent finish or a 'wet-look' effect. 'They instantly feel summery and on-theme, without requiring advanced skills for application,' she explains.

Intense backlash to Matt Rife ad left makeup company ‘very surprised,' brand executive says

One executive for makeup brand e.l.f. is trying to turn down the social media temperature after her company's latest ad sparked outrage among users for starring stand-up comic Matt Rife. In an interview with the outlet 'Business of Fashion' (BOF), the beauty brand's chief marketing officer, Kory Marchisotto, spoke about what went wrong with its ad with Rife, explaining that causing outrage was never their intention. 'Obviously, we're very surprised,' she said. 'There is a big gap between our intention and how this missed the mark for some people… We always aim to deliver positivity, and this one didn't.' 'So we find ourselves in a position where, quite honestly, that doesn't feel good for us,' Marchisotto added. The cosmetics brand published the ad on major social media platforms last week. The commercial featured Rife and drag queen Heidi N Closet as ' & Schmarnes,' a spoof lawyer duo in a legal commercial fighting for consumers' rights to inexpensive cosmetic products. 4 Marchisotto said that e.l.f cosmetics was 'very surprised' from the backlash they have received. @elfcosmetics/Instagram However, the clip took major heat from online users, including several major beauty and fashion influencers, who were offended that e.l.f. would employ Rife after he joked about domestic abuse during his 2023 stand-up special, 'Natural Selection.' In the special, the comic told the story of when he and his friend noticed a waitress with a black eye while they were eating at a restaurant in Baltimore. He explained that the two of them questioned why the restaurant owners wouldn't have the employee work in the kitchen to avoid customers asking questions. 'Yeah, but I feel like if she could cook, she wouldn't have a black eye,' Rife joked. 4 The backlash of Rife in the ad is from his previous jokes about domestic abuse. @elfcosmetics/Instagram When people reacted poorly to the joke at the time, Rife doubled down, putting out a statement that directed social media users to a link offering an 'apology' if they had ever been offended by a joke he told. The link brought users to a website where they could purchase special-needs helmets. In response to e.l.f.'s new ad last week, 'Nikkietutorials,' a cosmetics influencer with almost 9 million followers on TikTok, commented, 'aaaaaaandddd you lost me… Matt Rife out of ALL people? so disappointed.' Others trashed the video in its comment sections, too. Maddy Lucy Dann, a TikTok user with 1.4 million followers, wrote, 'In Matt Rife's Netflix stand-up special Natural Selection he opened with a domestic violence joke, implying a woman wouldn't have a black eye if she could cook.' 4 Rife made the controversial jokes during his 2023 stand-up special, 'Natural Selection.' @elfcosmetics/Instagram The beauty brand responded to the backlash, putting out a statement last Wednesday acknowledging that working with Rife was a mistake. 'You know us, we're always listening and we've heard you. This campaign aimed to humorously spotlight beauty injustice. We understand we missed the mark with people we care about in our e.l.f community,' e.l.f. stated. 4 Marchisotto said they went with Rife because 80% of his TikTok audience is female. @elfcosmetics/Instagram During her interview with BOF, Marchisotto explained why e.l.f. went with Rife for the ad campaign. She noted how 80% of Rife's TikTok audience is female, with 75% under the age of 34 – 'right in the sweet spot' of the makeup brand's target audience. 'We [are] very much known for operating in real time, that's what it means to be in the cultural zeitgeist. So we're not looking in the rearview mirror when we're operating the real-time marketing machine,' she said. Rife has yet to reply to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Toby Keith's son welcomes first baby more than a year after singer's death at 62

Toby Keith's family is growing by one more than 18 months after the singer's death. The country music star, best known for songs like 'Red Solo Cup' and 'Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,' died on Feb. 5, 2024, following a battle with stomach cancer, according to NBC News. He was 62. On Aug. 15, Keith's son, Stelen Keith Covel, took to Instagram to announce the birth of his first baby. 'Millie is here,' Covel's wife, Haley, wrote in the caption of the joint post, which featured a photo of Millie Brooks Covel wrapped in a swaddle next to a piece of fabric with her name and initials on it. 'We love you so much little girl,' Haley added in the caption. Covel is the youngest child and only son of Keith and his wife Tricia Lucus, who were married for nearly 40 years. The couple tied the knot in 1984, at which point Keith adopted Lucus' daughter Shelley Covel Rowland, now 44, according to People. They went on to welcome their first baby together — daughter Krystal Keith, 39 — in 1985 followed by their lone son, Stelen Keith Covel, in 1997. Toby Keith's death was announced Feb. 6, 2024, in a post shared on his website and X account. 'Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on February 5, surrounded by his family,' the statement read. 'He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.' The 'I Love This Bar' singer announced in 2022 that he was diagnosed with stomach cancer the year prior, according to NPR. With the birth of baby Millie, Toby Keith's kids now each have at least one child of their own. According to People, Keith's adopted daughter Shelley, born in 1980, shares at least one child with her husband. Meanwhile, his biological daughter Krystal — a talented singer herself — shares two daughters, Kirby and Hensley, with her husband, per NBC News. In 2023, Keith took to Instagram to share a photo of his family as they celebrated Thanksgiving together. As for Stelen Keith Covel, he and his wife, Haley, announced their pregnancy on Feb. 13 — one week after the one-year anniversary of his father's death. 'Baby Covel coming this summer,' the couple wrote in an Instagram post. Covel's jacket was unzipped just enough to reveal a picture of his dad on his undershirt.
