Sharjah Ports records 82 drug seizures in 2024
As many as 82 drug seizures were recorded at customs ports during 2024 in the Emirate of Sharjah, as revealed by Mohammed Ibrahim Al Raisi, Director of Ports and Border Points Affairs at the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority during the participation in the "International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2025" forum, organised by the Sharjah Police
This achievement reflects the authority's ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and enhance community security, Al Raisi said.
He explained that the Authority's involvement in the forum was indicative of its pivotal function in addressing the pervasive issue of drug abuse and in thwarting attempts at illicit smuggling through the emirate's various customs ports.
He emphasised that the Sharjah government has dedicated significant resources to the enhancement of customs ports, equipping them with state-of-the-art capabilities and technologies. Furthermore, he highlighted the government's commitment to the training and qualification of national cadres, ensuring their ongoing professional development.
He commended the efforts of those employed in the customs sector, who, he observed, continue to work tirelessly to safeguard the nation.

Tour of the Operations Department facilities The Deputy Ruler toured the Operations Department, equipped with AI-based systems to manage security reports and tasks. He also learned about network integration with traffic cameras across the emirate. Reports Management Centre overview His Highness received a detailed briefing on the Reports Management Centre, including 999 emergency report platforms, 24/7 monitoring systems, patrol coordination platforms, and early warning systems for gold and money exchange stores. Visit to 901 Call Management Centre He was introduced to the 901 Call Management Centre, which handles non-emergency inquiries and enhances communication between police and the public. Simulation rooms for police training The tour concluded with a visit to simulation rooms designed to train police personnel in managing real-time reports effectively. The ceremony, held at the General Command headquarters and organised by the Strategy and Institutional Excellence Department, was attended by senior officers, department heads and staff. The event began with the national anthem and a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a speech from Colonel Dr Samih Al Halian, who noted the launch of a special badge for excellence to be worn on uniforms during the program cycle—symbolising pride, commitment, and inspiration. Honouring individuals and departments. Winners were recognised across 13 job categories, and the top three departments received institutional awards. In total, 34 employees were decorated with medals of excellence: 13 gold, 12 silver and 9 bronze. The evaluators were also recognised for their professionalism and fairness in the judging process. SEC issues decision to create new units within Sharjah Police General Command
During its meeting on Tuesday, chaired by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Vice Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC), the SEC issued a decision to create new organisational units within the general structure of the Sharjah Police General Command (SPGC). During the meeting, held at the Sharjah Ruler's Office, the council discussed a number of topics related to the regulation and monitoring of the performance of government departments and entities in the Emirate of Sharjah, along with key developmental plans aimed at enhancing the quality of services provided across the Emirate. The Council reviewed the semi-annual performance report of the Higher Committee for Human Resources and its Technical Committee, which included statistics on their meetings and the topics and cases discussed in the committees' agenda during the past period. The report also covered the studies and research carried out by the Higher Committee as part of its efforts to develop the human resources systems and regulations in the Emirate of Sharjah, and to improve the working environment and services provided to Sharjah Government employees. The Council issued a decision regarding the creation of new organisational units within the general organisational structure of the Sharjah Police General Command (SPGC). According to the decision, the title of the Preventive Security Department will be changed to become the 'General Department of Preventive Security,' under which the following departments will fall: Security Investigation Department, Field Operations Department, Institutional Security Department, and General Inspection Department. The decision also stipulated the establishment of new directorates within the general structure of the Sharjah Police as follows: the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols, which includes the Traffic Department and the Patrols Department; the Directorate of Drug Prevention and Control, which includes the Prevention and Monitoring Department and the Drug Control Department; and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Inquiries, which includes the Criminal Investigation and Inquiries Department and the Criminal Investigation and Monitoring Department. The Council also issued a decision on the formation of a committee to licence social work professionals operating in the field of social work within the Emirate of Sharjah.
