Mets Receive Unfortunate Jesse Winker News After Loss to Cardinals
The New York Mets are one of the best teams in baseball, but even the best teams experience adversity. The Mets (22-13) are still in first place in the NL East, but they've lost four of their last five games and are experiencing injuries.
Outfielder/designated hitter Jesse Winker left during the first game of New York's doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday with an oblique injury. The veteran is slashing .239/.321/.418 with one homer and 10 RBI this season.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza delivered an unfortunate update about Winker after the second game on Sunday night, via SNY.

"He's gonna go back to New York. We need to get more pictures on it, they weren't clear here," he said. "It looks like an IL situation."
He also confirmed that the team will replace Winker for the upcoming series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
New York acquired Winker from the Washington Nationals in July 2024 and signed him to a one-year, $7.5 million contract over the offseason. The 31-year-old owns a career slash line of .262/.321/.418 with 96 homers and 333 RBI over 778 games.

The Mets' injured list includes Danny Young (elbow), Paul Blackburn (knee), A.J. Minter (lat), Brooks Rally (elbow), Sean Manaea (oblique), Franke Montas (lat), Ronny Mauricio (knee), Jose Siri (tibia), Nicky Madrigal (shoulder), Christian Scott (elbow), and Drew Smith (elbow), via MLB.com.
New York is 2.5 games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies atop the division, six ahead of the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves, and eight ahead of the Miami Marlins.

Oregon State opens College World Series with 4-3 walk-off win over Louisville

(AP) — Aiva Arquette scored from first base on Gavin Turley's drive into the left-field corner in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Oregon State a 4-3 walk-off victory over Louisville in the College World Series on Friday night. The Cardinals had tied the game with two runs in the top half before Oregon State recorded its fourth walk-off win of the season and second in four games.
