Paramount+ rebrands as Paramount+ Premium, droping 'Showtime' name

Express Tribune24-06-2025
Paramount Global has officially rebranded its top-tier streaming package, removing 'Showtime' from its name. As of June 23, the service formerly known as Paramount+ With Showtime will now be called Paramount+ Premium, though pricing and programming remain unchanged. The package still costs $12.99 per month or $119.99 per year and continues to include all Showtime content.
This move comes more than a year after Showtime was fully integrated into Paramount+ in 2023, which led to the shutdown of Showtime's standalone streaming app in early 2024. Despite the name change, Showtime programming like Dexter: Original Sin, The Chi, and Yellowjackets remains a core part of the offering. The rebrand also comes as part of a broader strategy to clarify the tiered service model: Paramount+ Premium (ad-free, with live CBS feeds) and Paramount+ Essential (ad-supported), which is priced at $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year.
In a statement on its customer support page, Paramount explained, 'Since we recently introduced a sampling of Showtime programming to the Essential plan, the Premium plan name reflects the broad and diverse offerings across both plan tiers.' The company added that Showtime content is still prominently featured on the platform.
The name change, however, only applies to the streaming service. The linear cable channel will continue to be called Paramount+ With Showtime, potentially creating some confusion for viewers.
The rebrand follows a similar move by Warner Bros. Discovery, which recently announced plans to revert its Max streaming service back to HBO Max in an effort to emphasize its core identity. Paramount emphasized that existing users might still see the old plan name temporarily, depending on their device, but their benefits will remain the same.

Regina Hall and Anna Faris return in Wayans Brothers Scary Movie reboot with Miramax Paramount

Regina Hall and Anna Faris are officially reprising their roles as Brenda and Cindy in the upcoming Scary Movie reboot, according to Deadline. The comedy duo will reunite with Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon Wayans as the iconic spoof franchise gears up for its sixth installment. 'We can't wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we'd literally die for (in Brenda's case, again),' Hall and Faris shared in a joint statement. Their return comes as the Wayans Brothers team up for the first time in 18 years to co-write a new original script with Rick Alvarez for Miramax. Filming is scheduled to begin in October 2025, with Paramount handling a June 12, 2026 global theatrical release. Miramax currently holds a first-look deal with Paramount. Since its debut in 2000, the Scary Movie franchise has grossed nearly $900 million worldwide. The original film broke records at the time, setting a then–R-rated horror opening weekend record with $42.5 million. This new installment will be directed by Michael Tiddes, a longtime Wayans collaborator known for A Haunted House, Naked, and Sextuplets. Keenen Ivory Wayans will return as a producer, alongside Marlon and Shawn, who starred in and co-wrote the first two films. Hall's upcoming projects include Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another with Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Benicio Del Toro, slated for release on September 26. She is also starring in Judgment Day with Will Ferrell and Zac Efron, and lending her voice to The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants. Faris, meanwhile, will next appear in Spa Weekend. Following her breakout in Scary Movie, she went on to star in The House Bunny, Overboard, and the long-running sitcom Mom. She is also the author of the New York Times bestselling memoir Unqualified.

Is a live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film still in the works? Paramount responds

Paramount Pictures is pressing ahead with a live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, adapting the acclaimed and darker storyline The Last Ronin. The project remains in development, sources have confirmed, alongside the already scheduled animated sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, due for release on September 172027. The Last Ronin, a five-issue comic published by IDW between 2020 and 2022, was written by Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz from a story by Eastman and Peter Laird. Set in a grim future, the narrative follows the final surviving Ninja Turtle as he seeks vengeance for his fallen brothers by confronting the grandson of Shredder. The storyline exists in its own 'Roninverse' continuity, originating from a 1987 outline by Eastman and Laird. The comic earned widespread praise for its mature tone, emotional depth, and distinctive artwork. It has since expanded into follow-up series The Last Ronin – Lost Years and The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution, with a video game also in development. Paramount officially announced the live-action adaptation in April 2024. Walter Hamada, known for The Conjuring and It, is producing via 18hz, with Tyler Burton Smith penning the script. The film is expected to carry an R rating, reflecting the source material's intensity. Deadline recently noted the film's continued progress, though without naming The Last Ronin directly. Rumours have linked director James Wan, creator of Saw and Insidious, to the project, given his background in atmospheric and high-stakes storytelling. A release date remains to be confirmed.

Pierce Brosnan struggles with Jimmy Fallon's spicy salsa during ‘Tonight Show' appearance

Pierce Brosnan had a priceless reaction after sampling Jimmy Fallon's homemade salsa during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The former James Bond actor joined co-star Helen Mirren on Monday night to promote their upcoming film The Thursday Murder Club. Before discussing the movie, Fallon surprised the pair by preparing his signature salsa live on the show, mixing tomatoes, garlic, lime, onion, jalapeño, cilantro, and crunchy salt. While Mirren, 80, happily enjoyed the spicy snack, Brosnan, 72, appeared caught off guard by the heat. The Mamma Mia! star initially tried to mask his discomfort, taking a long pause before declaring the salsa 'really good.' Moments later, he was seen coughing and fanning his mouth to cool down. When Mirren offered him more, he politely declined, admitting, 'I don't do hot sauce or jalapeños,' before taking a sip of water. Fallon laughed at the candid moment. Directed by Chris Columbus and based on Richard Osman's best-selling novel, The Thursday Murder Club follows four retirees who solve cold case murders, only to stumble upon a real one. Both Brosnan and Mirren also star together in Paramount+'s MobLand, portraying wealthy couple Conrad and Maeve Harrington. The Thursday Murder Club premieres on Netflix August 28, while The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights on NBC at 11:35 p.m. ET.
