MCMC investigating individual for uploading fake content on Chief Justice's appointment
The commission said that the individual's statement was recorded at 2.30pm at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters and a mobile phone and SIM card were seized to assist in investigations.
"MCMC views the spread of fake content touching the integrity of the country's judicial institution seriously. Misuse of social media for such purposes can affect public confidence and the country's public order.
"Stern action will be taken according to existing legal provisions,' the commission said in a statement on Friday (July 18).
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 that stipulates a maximum fine of RM500,000 or two years' jail or both if found guilty.- Bernama

Teenager pleads guilty to assaulting teacher
by AKMAR ANNUAR A 14-YEAR-OLD student pleaded guilty at the Magistrates' Court on July 30 to a charge of assaulting his teacher at a secondary school earlier this week. The incident, which occurred on July 28, involved the teenager — currently in a transition class — punching his teacher in the face following a disciplinary reprimand. The case has drawn public attention after a 38-second video of the altercation was widely circulated on social media. Magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil postponed sentencing to Sept 11 to allow time for the Social Welfare Department (JKM) to prepare a character report. The boy was accompanied by both his parents during the closed-door proceedings. His mother appeared visibly distressed as they entered the courtroom. According to the charge, the student intentionally caused injury to the teacher at approximately 4.48pm on the school premises. The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one year's imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Muhammad Syafiq Mohd Zulbahrin proposed bail be set at RM5,000, citing the seriousness of the offence and its widespread attention online. 'The case has gone viral and involves an assault on a teacher during school hours,' he said. However, defence counsel S Priyalatha requested a lower bail, stressing that the teenager is still in school and falls under the category of a young offender. 'My client is 14 years old, still in school and he is a juvenile under the law. I request a lower bail amount so as not to burden the family,' she told reporters outside the courtroom. The court subsequently allowed bail at RM1,000 with one surety. Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof confirmed the arrest, saying that the altercation occurred after the teacher reprimanded the student for skipping physical education class. The teacher, a 29-year-old man, lodged a police report at 7.15pm the same day. Initial investigations revealed that the student was expected to be on the school field during the class session but was absent, prompting the confrontation.

Retired driving instructor charged with sexual assault
A former driving school instructor was accused of allegely committeing physical sexual offences againts a teenage girl at a driving school at Kampung Paloh here. IPOH: A former driving school instructor has been charged at the Sessions Court here for alleged sexual assault against a teenage girl last month. Lim Chin Leong, 60, pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act before judge Jean Sharmila Jesudason on Friday (Aug 1). He was alleged to have touched the 17-year-old victim's hand and thigh at a driving school in Kampung Paloh on July 7 at 10am. If convicted, he could face imprisonment for up to 20 years and be subjected to whipping. He could also be put under police surveillance for up to three years at the end of his sentence. Deputy Public Prosecutor Qurratu'aini Khalifah proposed to the court to set bail at RM20,000 and for the accused to report to the nearest police station once a month and to stay away from the victim. Lawyer R. Rajasegaran, who represented the accused, pleaded for a lower bail as the accused is no longer working and is being taken care of by his accountant daughter, who earns about RM3,000 monthly. Jean Sharmila ordered the bail to be set at RM8,000 and for the accused to report to the nearest police station once a month and to stay away from the victim. She set Sept 12 for mention.
