Two motorcyclists killed, one injured in collision on PLUS highway near Alor Gajah
ALOR GAJAH, May 21 — Two motorcyclists were killed while another was injured in an accident involving three motorcycles at KM220.2 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) Melaka bound, yesterday.
Alor Gajah police chief Supt Ashari Abu Samah said the victims, Farith Aiman Mohd Fairus, 21, who was riding a Honda RS150R, and Mohamad Shahril Anuar, 45, on a Yamaha MT-25, died at the scene from severe injuries in the 7.40pm crash.
The third rider, R. Jeevankumar, 18, who was on a Yamaha Y15ZR, sustained abrasions on his left arm and leg and was taken to Alor Gajah Hospital for treatment.
Ashari said initial investigations found that all three riders were travelling in the same direction from the north towards Melaka. As they approached the scene, Farith Aiman's motorcycle struck the rear left side of a lorry in the left lane, causing him to lose control and fall into the emergency lane.
'His motorcycle then collided with Mohamad Shahril's bike in the emergency lane, which in turn crashed into Jeevankumar's motorcycle,' he said in a statement today..
Ashari added that the accident occurred during dark and rainy conditions. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
All three motorcycles have been sent to the Puspakom centre in Rembia for further inspection. — Bernama

A CCTV inspection of the sewer system will be conducted once clearance is given by the relevant authorities, it said. Penang fire and rescue department assistant director John Sagun Francis confirmed that no injuries were reported. The single explosion occurred at about 11.30am along Lengkok Perindustrian Bukit Minyak 2, causing damage to the road. A hazmat (hazardous materials) unit confirmed there were no further threats, and recorded neutral readings from the sewer fluid.

Capsized boat at Tanjung Harapan refloated, search continues for missing couple off Port Klang
KLANG, June 7 — The search and rescue (SAR) operation to locate a couple who went missing after their boat capsized in the waters off Tanjung Harapan yesterday evening, continued today, with efforts focused on raising the sunken vessel. Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Enforcement and Excise Unit operations officer, Maritime Lieutenant Mohd Syafiq Sazali, said that the boat was partially refloated at 2.20 pm, after which the team began pumping out the water. 'The next step involves deploying divers to secure ropes to the underside of the boat to lift or elevate its front section,' he said. 'Once that is done, we will pump out the remaining water and inspect the vessel to determine if there are any victims' bodies inside,' he told reporters at the search site in Tanjung Harapan today. In the incident, which occurred around 5 pm yesterday, three individuals, including a child, were found dead, while a couple remain missing, after the boat they were in capsized in the waters off Tanjung Harapan, Port Klang. The missing victims have been identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife, Careen Man, 29, both from Klang Utama. Tragically, their three-year-old son, Darren Gan, was among the three found dead in the front compartment of the boat, alongside family friends Cheu Son Hin, 50, and Fong Yong Sen, 29. Another victim, Chang Yan Qin Alvin, 17, was successfully rescued by a group of fishermen. Meanwhile, Mohd Syafiq said that the SAR operation, which resumed at 7 am today, involved four assets from various security agencies, in addition to three more provided by the Royal Selangor Yacht Club (RSYC). He added that the high tide significantly aided the efforts to raise the boat, as it still had some buoyancy, making it easier for the diving team to attach the rope needed to lift it. — Bernama

MACC to file application to forfeit Ilham Tower

(Website pic) PETALING JAYA : The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will file an application to forfeit the Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur next week, says its chief, Azam Baki. Azam said the forfeiture application would be filed under Section 55 or 56 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla), Utusan Malaysia reported. Section 56 of Amla provides for the forfeiture of property where there is no prosecution, if a High Court judge is satisfied that the asset was the subject-matter or evidence relating to the commission of an offence under the Act, the proceeds of an unlawful activity, or the instrumentalities of an offence. MACC first seized the 274m-tall tower owned by the late Daim Zainuddin and his family under the MACC Act in December 2023. It previously said it could seize the tower for up to 18 months pending investigations. Yesterday, it announced it had seized the tower again, this time under Amla. Daim's widow, Naimah Khalid, plans to challenge the seizure in court. Last month, MACC opened eight new investigation papers into 'high-value' assets linked to Daim and his family members after receiving new information from overseas.
