Emalahleni already without water amid planned five-day water shutdown
In a water service update issued today, the municipality reported that key reservoirs supplying the city are at low levels. Point A reservoir is at approximately 0%, and Point B is at around 6% capacity. Water is not currently being pumped from Point B to C, which affects downstream zones as well. Point C's reservoir stands at about 51%, Point D at 59%, and Point E at 50%.
Due to these low levels, multiple areas are already experiencing low water pressure or no supply at all.
Areas affected in the Point A zone include portions of Emalahleni Extension 10, Blancheville, Marelden, Klarinet Extensions, Pine Ridge, portions of Thushanang, Old Coronation, and Emalahleni Correctional Services.
Areas in the Point B supply zone facing shortages include Die Heuwel Proper, portions of the Emalahleni CBD, Emalahleni Extensions 1 to 12, Die Heuwel Extension 8, Saveways Crescent Shopping Centre, Del Judor Proper, and Die Heuwel Extension 1.
Additional areas served by the B to C reservoir experiencing disruptions are portions of Emalahleni Extensions 16, 18, and 41; Tasbet Park Extensions 2, 3, and 6; Duvha Park Proper; and Duvha Park Extensions 1, 2, 7, and 8.

Further compounding the crisis, a major leak along the R104 near the diesel depot has caused the municipality to isolate the water supply to KwaGuqa New Extensions (Ezinambeni), KwaMntunzi Vilakazi, Transalloys, and Elandsfontein Mine.
Repair teams are currently on-site draining the system in preparation for repairs.

Week-long water shutdown starts tomorrow
The water outage in eMalahleni is set to start tomorrow. The outage is expected to last approximately one week. The expected and planned shutdown is scheduled from tomorrow to July 27. The municipality, in a press release, said the water shutdown is necessary to implement critical water maintenance and repairs. This planned outage will require shutting down the entire water pumping and purification system to implement maintenance work, and during maintenance, the water infrastructure will be isolated. The system will need a few days to stabilise after pumping has resumed. Water tankers will be available at strategic areas such as hospitals and clinics when needed.
