ONE Championship: Tonon eyes title run after 18-month absence, but first Gasanov

Injuries and contract disputes have kept Garry Tonon away from the ring for the past 18 months, now he is ready to make up for lost time.
The American grappling ace returns to the cage in August at ONE Fight Night 34, looking to pick up where he left off by submitting Shamil Gasanov for a second time.
Tonon last faced Gasanov two years ago, earning a decisive kneebar victory at ONE Fight Night 12. But with the Russian stringing together four straight wins since that defeat, he has worked his way back into a featherweight rematch with the former title challenger.
'There's some people saying, 'why this rematch after a pretty decisive victory?'' Tonon told the Post. 'But he won four in a row. He's worked his way up the ladder.
'Who else is he really supposed to fight? This match is as good as any, and he certainly has worked his way back up to deserving it.'

While fans have not seen Tonon compete since January last year, when he beat Martin Nguyen in Tokyo at ONE 165, he has kept busy, building a new gym in Austin, Texas, and using the downtime to address lingering injuries.

Controversial new US Open mixed doubles event draws plenty of criticism

The new US Open mixed doubles tournament drew plenty of criticism for everything from its format to its field. With mostly singles players – some who rarely play doubles at all – and an unusual scoring system, it felt so much like an exhibition that Jessica Pegula had to scold partner Jack Draper when he called it just that in their press conference. 'He shouldn't be saying that, but that's OK,' Pegula said, later adding that 'it's not an exhibition.' No, it's a real grand slam championship and it debuted on Tuesday to positive reviews from players and fans. The fast-pace event, with shorter matches and a smaller field, is already down to its final four. Whoever wins the trophy on Wednesday night – and a $1 million prize – won't apologise for the way they got it. Carlos Alcaraz (left) with mixed doubles partner Emma Raducanu at the US Open. Lionel Messi's luxury watch collection in 2025 – from Rolex and Patek Philippe to Tudor

The world knows Lionel Messi for his goals, his mind-boggling skills, his mile-long list of honours and achievements, and his staggering wealth – he's pulling in US$20 million a year playing for Inter Miami, according to The Guardian. He once earned up to US$165 million during his Barcelona days, and he is edging ever closer to billionaire status with a net worth of around US$850 million, per Celebrity Net Worth. Lionel Messi has accumulated an impressive fortune during his career. Photo: Xinhua But off the pitch – no doubt aided by all those millions in his accounts – the 38-year-old is also a serious collector of ultra-lavish timepieces. As the very definition of a GOAT, he also has the world's most coveted watchmakers vying for his wrist – he's been an ambassador for the likes of Audemars Piguet and, since 2019, Jacob & Co. Advertisement All that is to say that Messi has been a major player in the luxury watch world for years, and if 2025 is anything to go by, his collection is only getting more substantial. Here are seven luxury watches the football icon has worn so far this year. As fellow watch bro Jay-Z might say – new watch alert! A Patek Philippe Cubitus watch was seen on the Argentine footballer's wrist at an Inter Miami match in August. He wore the rose gold Cubitus with a brown dial (ref. 7128/1R-001) showing that, despite this watch's somewhat mixed reception, it's got at least one famous fan. He's also got a ref. 5821/1A of the model in stainless steel with a green dial, as seen on Instagram. Former AP ambassador Messi still keeps the brand close. In March, he sported a 43mm black ceramic Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Tourbillon Chronograph – one of only 50 in existence – complete with a skeletonised dial, dual chronograph counters, and a tourbillon at six o'clock. Also spotted on the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger , Jay-Z and Novak Djokovic, it's sporty on the (rubber) strap, but total over-the-top extravagance on the wrist. ONE Championship: Adrian Lee's ominous warning to ONE Fight Night 35 opponent

Adrian Lee said Tye Ruotolo made a serious mistake when he called him out for his first professional MMA bout. The surging lightweight prospect, younger brother of women's MMA icon and former atomweight champion Angela Lee, current double champion Christian Lee, and the late Victoria Lee – who was undefeated in ONE – will face the decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion in the ring at ONE Fight Night 35 in Bangkok's Lumpinee Stadium on September 6. Ruotolo's twin brother Kade is also a multiple-time world champion in submission grappling and had been heavily linked to fighting Adrian after amassing a matching 3-0 MMA record. 'When Tye called me out, I was really surprised,' Lee told the Post. 'I thought it was a horrible idea. 'I think I'm a terrible match-up for him, but it's a great opportunity for me to take his momentum.' Play Ruotolo is regarded as one of the best submission grapplers in the world but has around two years of MMA training. Lee, who is 3-0 with three submission victories since turning professional, said that will make the difference.
