Edited Excerpts –A) President Donald Trump's recent implementation of sweeping tariffs has significantly impacted global equity markets, leading to substantial declines and heightened volatility.There has been a blood bath in the Global Markets following Trump's announcement of universal tariffs, with the barometer S&P 500 declining ~20% from its all-time highs.The tariffs have intensified fears of a global recession, leading investors to seek safe-haven assets such as U.S. Treasuries and the Japanese yen. Analysts warn of continued market volatility and potential economic downturns if trade tensions persist.A) As we started the Calendar Year 2025, we continued to adopt a conservative stance and an underweight in US Equities, especially US Large Caps.Furthermore, it was our belief that we are entering an era where we were reaching the limits of US exceptionalism.We advised investors move into high quality fixed income assets such as short-dated US Treasuries. Additionally, gold can be looked for diversification and improving risk-adjusted returns.A) We suggest investors overweight geographies where valuations are more sanguine from a long-term perspective.There is a glaring mismatch between US equity market capitalisation (67%) and its share in the global economy (~30%).The likely impact of Trump's policies could be a catalyst to trigger the long overdue reversion to mean.This includes China, Japan, Europe and UK as well as other Emerging Markets. Thus, investors should consider rebalancing from areas of overvaluation to regions of more balanced valuations and take a few chips off the table in US equities.A) Sectors where India has a competitive advantage as well as where tariffs are lower in comparison to other countries could be beneficial.Textiles and Apparels, Chemicals, Electronics, Automobile and Auto components could be sectors that could see some traction and movement away from China.A) International markets provide the much-needed diversification when domestic markets face headwinds, especially an exodus of Foreign Institutional Investors.Investors can access these markets via Feeder funds or via the LRS route by setting up overseas investing accounts.A) We have received numerous inquiries from investors in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. By embracing digital enablement, recognizing local dynamics, and aligning with the aspirations of these dynamic markets, companies have the opportunity to drive growth while playing a key role in the economic transformation of India's heartland.A) We recommend maintaining capital in the form of dry powder or highly liquid investments that can be strategically deployed when opportunities arise. Commodities also provide effective diversification, particularly gold, silver, and a broad mix of others.Additionally, uncorrelated strategies like Arbitrage Funds and Absolute Return Funds can offer a buffer against trade-driven global market volatility, as their returns are not tied to traditional asset classes.A) This factor depends on the risk profile of the individual. For a balanced portfolio, we would suggest 60% Equity allocation, 20% fixed income allocation, 10% commodities, 5% international allocations and 5% in REITs and InvITs. 'Pro-family initiative': Donald Trump announces $1,000 government-funded accounts for American babies — who qualifies for the scheme?
Donald Trump announces a 'pro-family' legislation US President Donald Trump has unveiled a federal plan to boost future financial security for the next generation. The initiative includes opening $1,000 investment accounts for every American baby born between 2025 and 2029, reports the Guardian. The MAGA supremo describes this move as 'a pro-family' effort, which is part of a sweeping bill that has passed the House but still faces hurdles in the Senate. The accounts are dubbed as 'Trump accounts,' and would be tax-deferred and track stock market performance. 'For every US citizen born after December 31, 2024, before January 1, 2029, the federal government will make a one-time contribution of $1,000 into a tax-deferred account that will track the overall stock market,' Trump said during a White House roundtable with major business leaders. Parents or guardians will manage these "Trump accounts," which allow up to $5,000 in additional annual contributions from private sources. Trump pitched the initiative as a way for families to benefit directly from the strength of the American economy. 'It's a pro-family initiative that will help millions of Americans harness the strength of our economy to lift up the next generation,' he said. The plan has received strong backing from several prominent CEOs, including Michael Dell, Uber's Dara Khosrowshahi, Goldman Sachs' David Solomon and Robinhood's Vladimir Tenev. Trump applauded their commitment, saying they were 'really the greatest business minds we have today' and that they were 'committed to contributing millions of dollars to the Trump account.' House Speaker Mike Johnson also praised the scheme. 'It's a bold, transformative policy that gives every eligible American child a financial head start from day one,' he said. 'Republicans are proud to be the party we always have been. It supports life and families, prosperity and opportunity.' The accounts are part of what Trump calls his 'one big, beautiful bill.' The bill is a sweeping budget package that, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), could add $2.4 trillion to the national debt over the next decade. The CBO also warned that the proposed changes, which include cuts to Medicaid and food assistance, could leave nearly 11 million more Americans without healthcare by 2034. Despite the criticism, Trump remains optimistic. 'Beneficiaries would really be getting a big jump on life, especially if we get a little bit lucky with some of the numbers and the economies into the future,' he said. Johnson warned that failing to pass the bill would lead to 'the largest tax increase in American history.' Johnson urged lawmakers to back what he called 'pro-growth legislation' to benefit all Americans.

Chip company Renesas says Wolfspeed situation won't hit India OSAT
Reports of a likely bankruptcy filing by the US-based silicon carbide (SiC) wafer maker have been sending shockwaves through the global semiconductor industry with experts suggesting that it could impact Murugappa group-owned CG Power's upcoming outsourced semiconductor assembly and test facility (OSAT) in Sanand. Remove Ads Japanese chipmaker Renesas has said that the situation involving Wolfspeed will have "no impact" on its OSAT project in of a likely bankruptcy filing by the US-based silicon carbide (SiC) wafer maker have been sending shockwaves through the global semiconductor industry with experts suggesting that it could impact Murugappa group-owned CG Power 's upcoming outsourced semiconductor assembly and test facility (OSAT) in Sanand."We would like to clarify that the situation involving Wolfspeed will have no impact on the OSAT project, including its production, operations, or the relationship between Renesas and CG Power," a Renesas spokesperson said in a statement to in a recent filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), said 'substantial doubt exists' about its ability to continue as a going Renesas Electronics, CG Power's partner for the project, has a long-term $2-billion SiC wafer supply agreement with Wolfspeed, which is now reportedly on the brink of default. Since Renesas has already made advance payments under the contract, experts had told ET that it risks a financial setback besides supply disruptions. They said CG Power's OSAT facility, which was betting on demand from Renesas, may face headwinds as a Renesas in its statement said that while it does not comment on the financial situation of Wolfspeed, it said it will not hamper its ability to continue supporting the JV project. Additionally, it said that it does not plan to produce SiC devices under the OSAT joint venture in India."India remains a key focus market for us, and Renesas is committed to supporting the 'Make in India' initiative and continuing our full support of the OSAT joint venture," the spokesperson said. "Therefore, we do not anticipate any global supply chain disruptions arising from our relationship with Wolfspeed."CG Power holds a majority 92.3% stake in the joint venture OSAT, with Renesas holding 6.8%.In an interview with ET in May, Renesas global CEO Hidetoshi Shibata said he expects the Sanand facility to roll out its first chip from a pilot production line by Rs 7,600-crore plant is slated to start mass production in 2027, he said, adding that Renesas is also in talks with other potential Indian partners to expand its presence in the country at various levels.
