Texas A&M HC Mike Elko is 'blessed' to have four talented running backs
During Thursday's SEC media days appearance, head coach Mike Elko was asked about his 2025 running back room, first praising Le'Veon Moss's 2024 performance before his injury, where he led the SEC in rushing with 765 yards, ten touchdowns, and 6.3 yards per carry. Moss's injury significantly altered A&M's offense, placing additional pressure on starting quarterback Marcel Reed to produce through the air, which was challenging given the team's limited reliable receiving options.
It's also important to note that sophomore RB Reuben Owens was also lost for the season, and despite his brief return against Texas and USC in the Las Vegas Bowl, the former five-star was not himself after tearing his ACL during fall practice. How OC Collin Klein will use Owens, who could become a hybrid receiver in certain packages, will determine just how successful the Aggie rushing attack will be.

If Moss can pick up where he left off, Texas A&M is in great shape, while Owens is determined to show the nation that he remains an elite back with first-round NFL draft potential. However, Elko also noted EJ Smith is healthy and back to form, which is good news for those who remember his elite play and versatility during the bulk of his career at Stanford.

College football recruiting rankings have a new No. 1
The Georgia Bulldogs have the best recruiting class in the SEC for several weeks and now, after a recent recruiting rankings update, the Dawgs have the best recruiting class in the country. Georgia recently surpassed the USC Trojans. USC had held the nation's top recruiting class for several months. The Big Ten has three of the nation's top 10 recruiting classes while the SEC has five top 10 recruiting classes including four of the top six. Of course, it is still early in the process for the class of 2026. The early signing period does not begin until December and recruiting powerhouses need to prove themselves on the field this fall in order to secure top recruiting classes. Despite having the top ranked recruiting class, Georgia is no lock to finish the cycle with the best recruiting class. Georgia has more commitments than any other team with a top 10 recruiting class outside of USC. Additionally, Georgia's average commitment is ranked lower than the average LSU, Alabama or Oregon commitment. The LSU Tigers have just 16 commitments, but have the highest ranked average commitment (93.67) of any top 10 recruiting team on 247Sports. How many miles will Nebraska football travel in 2025?
One of the biggest changes to college sports over the past several seasons has been conference realignment. With the realignment, regional conferences now stretch coast to coast, resulting in an increase in travel and a dramatic increase in the miles traveled. The Big Ten Huddle did the calculations, and the numbers are eye-popping. No surprise that the four former Pac-12 teams will travel the most in the Big Ten Conference in 2025. Oregon leads the group, with the Ducks scheduled to travel 8,128 miles. Illinois will do the least amount of traveling, with only 2,735 miles scheduled this season. The Huskers ranked tenth in the Big Ten, with 3,790 miles scheduled. Nebraska will open the 2025 college football season on the road. They will face the Cincinnati Bearcats at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, on August 28. The Cornhuskers will only travel four times during Big Ten play. They will play at Minnesota, Maryland, and Penn State, but the farthest road trip in 2025 will be on November 8 when Nebraska plays the UCLA Bruins at the Rose Bowl. Top Iowa basketball recruiting target commits to Big Ten rival
Recruiting in college is full of wins and losses. You get some prospects to commit, and some go elsewhere. Ben McCollum has won a lot of recruiting battles early in his tenure at Iowa, but he lost a big one on Thursday to a Big Ten rival school. Colin Rice is a four-star prospect in the 2026 recruiting class from Waukee Northwest High School in Waukee, Iowa. The skilled and lengthy wing was a top target for McCollum and the Hawkeyes, as they wanted to keep his talents in-state. Unfortunately for the Hawks, Rice has other plans for his future. Joe Tipton was the first to report that Rice has committed to play his college ball for Fred Hoiberg and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. As Tipton said, Rice picked Nebraska over Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern, and countless other offers. It's not the first wing the Hawkeyes have lost to Lincoln this offseason, as Pryce Sandfort transferred to Nebraska earlier this year. While it's a blow to Iowa's 2026 class, it's far from the end of the world for that group. McCollum and the Hawks are still in the thick of a bunch of recruiting battles for great 2026 players, including four-stars Katrelle Harmon, Quinn Costello, and Arafan Diane. If Iowa can land one or two of those players, the 2026 class can still be great, and we all know what McCollum is capable of in the transfer portal. You win some recruiting battles and you lose others. It's part of the game. While Iowa wasn't able to secure Rice for its 2026 class, McCollum has earned the trust of the fanbase with his ability to bring top talent to Iowa City.
