The Prime Video top 10 is a great starting point when you're looking for something new to watch on the Amazon-owned streaming service. It gives you a snapshot view of the flicks currently being watched (and hopefully enjoyed) by millions of fellow subscribers.
However, just because a movie manages to claim a spot in the Prime Video top 10 doesn't guarantee its quality. As somebody who tracks the Prime Video charts every single day, I've seen plenty of subpar movies score a spot on the list. So, to save you the pain of wasting your precious movie-watching time on a dud, I'm picking out the current gems down below.
I've also identified the one movie that I really believe you should skip at all costs in the current Prime Video top 10 (apologies in advance to Arnold Schwarzenegger). So, let's dive in. Here's the current best and worst of the Prime Video top 10 movies (as of Wednesday, August 13).
The latest chapter in the 'Planet of the Apes' series leaps ahead into the far future following the prequel trilogy and sees Earth now fully inhabited by intelligent primates. The last remaining humans are scattered to the wind, and the battle for the planet has been lost. But that doesn't mean this sci-fi action movie lacks humanity or heart, quite the opposite. It's a surprisingly human tale that follows a young ape named Noa on a journey of redemption and a quest to find a new home.
Pitched as the start of a new trilogy, 'Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' sees Noa (Owen Teague) set out on a dangerous mission to rescue what remains of his tribe after they are taken prisoner by a vicious chimpanzee known as Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand). Along the way, he also befriends a young human girl (Freya Allan), who is looking for the key to humanity's survival. This blockbuster boasts eye-popping effects and a thoughtful story.

It certainly speaks to the suspect quality of the current Prime Video top 10 as a whole that I'm including 'Uncharted' in my trio of recommendations. To be up front, I have a lot of problems with this action-adventure flick. As a huge fan of the Uncharted video games, it's a poor adaptation of the series, with some disastrous casting decisions (Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan is borderline insulting), but viewers not so precious about the source material and just seeking a global trotting romp in the vein of Indiana Jones may enjoy this one.

Tom Holland plays Nathan Drake, a young treasure hunter, recruited by Victor 'Sully' Sullivan to find the lost fortune of Ferdinand Magellan, a 15th-century explorer. Drake is also motivated by a desire to find out what happened to his missing brother Sam (Rudy Pankow). Along the way, Drake and Sully must square off against Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas), a ruthless rival treasure hunter who is obsessed with finding Magellan's treasure as he believes it's his birthright.

'Wicked' is easily my most rewatched movie of 2024, because the musical extravaganza is such a joy from start to finish. And the grand finale with Cynthia Erivo belting out 'Defying Gravity' gives me chills every single time. Considering how long a 'Wicked' movie was in development, it's pretty shocking that the final result is so remarkable. Perhaps that's down to the note-perfect casting with Erivo playing Elphaba and Ariana Grande playing Glinda.
With 'Wicked: For Good,' which will adapt the second half of the enduringly popular Broadway musical, flying into theaters this November, now is a great time to watch 'Wicked,' or, like me, rewatch it for the dozenth time. If you're totally out of the loop on this one, 'Wicked' is a prequel to 'The Wizard of Oz,' which tells the previously untold story of the Wicked Witch of the West, and her friendship with Glinda the Good at Shiz University.

Arnold Schwarzenegger headlining an action-thriller should always be a recipe for entertainment, but sadly, this David Ayer-directed movie completely forgets to have fun with its larger-than-life star. Favoring grit over all, 'Sabotage' is horribly po-faced, and while some viewers will enjoy the level of violence, it's the lack of fun-factor that sinks this one for me. It's a shame as there's even a pretty strong cast around Arnie, including Sam Worthington, Olivia Williams, Terrence Howard and Joe Manganiello.
'Sabotage' sees Schwarzengger play the leader of an elite DEA task force. His squad completes a raid on a safe house operated by one of the world's most dangerous drug cartels, and they opt to steal $10 million to keep for themselves. It seems like the perfect crime, but there's a turncoat in their midst as the members involved in the theft start being killed one by one. Conceptually, it's a neat idea, but the final result is very skippable.

Jeff Bezos Reportedly 'Obsessed' With Casting Wife Lauren Sánchez In Major Role In Amazon MGM's New ‘James Bond': 'This Isn't Just Fantasy Casting'

The James Bond reboot is certainly shaping up to be an interesting project. A new report claims Amazon boss Jeff Bezos has already set his sights on the next Bond girl: His new wife, Lauren Sánchez. The pair recently married in June in a star-studded Venetian wedding but it looks like Bezos wants to make it official on the silver screen as well by casting her in Amazon MGM's upcoming James Bond reboot. A new report claims Bezos has become 'obsessed' with the idea of casting her in a major role. 'He's obsessed,' said a Hollywood insider, per Rob Shuter's newsletter. 'This isn't just fantasy casting — Jeff wants her on screen, period.' The report claims Bezos is looking to have Sánchez 'front and center' in the film. 'She's not an actress,' a studio exec said. 'But she's Jeff's muse, and when you spend $8 billion, you get what you want.' The $8 billion in question is the whopping price Bezos paid for MGM Studios when Amazon purchased the company back in 2021, which means Bezos will have considerable pull in the new reboot. It's possible that Sánchez – or even Bezos, for that matter – will make a cameo appearance in the reboot, similar to Elon Musk meeting Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man in Iron Man 2. But casting her in a major role could put a hug damper in an installment that could breathe new life into the franchise. Bond 26 is slated to be a total reboot of the franchise after Daniel Craig's final installment, 2021's No Time To Die. Dune director Denis Villeneuve is attached to direct with Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight writing the screenplay. Several of Hollywood's most dashing young actors have reportedly been in the running for the main role, including Harris Dickinson, Jacob Elordi, Regé-Jean Page, Tom Holland, and more. But Bezos may have a final say in that matter, as well. The internet exploded after Bezos asked X users, 'Who'd you pick as the next Bond?' Bond 26 has a tentative release date set for 2028. Head to Prime Video right now to see this underrated cult movie that's been hiding in plain sight

You might not have even heard of "Automata." Or maybe you've scrolled past it while hunting for something to watch, thinking it's just another dusty relic of the '90s sci-fi boom. It certainly looks the part, or at worst a B-movie action flick about the end of society as we know it as robots take over. But if you look closer, you'll find that it's much more than that, and this Prime Video flick is more than worth watching. The plot is simple at a glance: a weary investigator (Antonio Banderas) chases a case about rogue machines. Sure, it can be rough in spots, even clunky at times, but there's an honesty in the way it's put together that makes me appreciate it. It's a fun mix of gritty sets, practical effects, and flashes of tech wonder that If you like sci-fi with more mood than spectacle, "Automata" deserves your time. And it's streaming free on Prime Video right now. "Automata" is a sci-fi drama set in a future where the planet is falling apart and robots are part of everyday life. Jacq Vaucan (Antonio Banderas) is an insurance investigator for a robotics company who looks into claims that machines are violating their core protocols. What begins as a standard case turns strange when he uncovers signs that some robots might be repairing and even upgrading themselves. As he follows the trail, Jacq gets caught between powerful corporate interests, dangerous criminals, and his own growing questions about what separates humans from the technology they've built. "Automata" slipped under the radar when it came out, but it's one of those movies that sticks with you. Banderas as Vaucan is a fun deviation from the norm when it comes to casting, and he gives this role his all. He's almost unrecognizable from his typical roles, in fact, and it's refreshing to see him doing something a bit different. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Plus, Banderas, like the audience, has time to take in the cracked streets and dusty skies, and gives the story some room to breathe. The robots also feel real thanks to the practical effects, and the mystery keeps pulling you in. It's not like some of the blockbuster sci-fi flicks you might be used to that pull the same tricks over and over, and that's why I stuck with it even as a relatively unknown film. If you're into slower, more thoughtful sci-fi with a mix of tension and atmosphere, "Automata" is worth a watch. It's streaming now on Prime Video. Watch "Automata" free on Prime Video
