Valtteri Bottas nears F1 return with Cadillac

TimesLIVEa day ago

Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas is finalising a deal to return to Formula 1 with Cadillac in 2026, multiple news outlets reported.
Bottas, a reserve driver at Mercedes, added fuel to the speculation with a cheeky video posted to his X feed on Sunday.
In it, he opens the door of a Cadillac SUV and has a conversation with someone off camera.
'Oh wow, that's actually a nice seat,' Bottas says while checking out the driver's seat. 'I wouldn't mind.'
'And there's two seats,' the other man points out, prompting this reply from Bottas: 'And they're both free?'
But when the other voice asks if he wants to sit down, Bottas answers, 'Not yet.'
Cadillac is entering the championship series next season.
Bottas, 35, has made no secret of his desire to regain a full-time F1 seat after being dropped by Sauber at the end of the 2024 season.
The Finn has 10 career wins and 67 podium finishes in nearly 250 starts since 2013 with Sauber, Mercedes, Williams and Alfa Romeo. His last win came at the 2021 Turkish Grand Prix.

Mercedes-Benz SA welcomes Abey Kgotle as its new CEO amidst significant market challenges

Abey Kgotle will assume the role of new CEO from December 2025. Image: Supplied Mercedes-Benz has appointed Abey Kgotle as its new CEO, among key personnel changes announced this week. Kgotle will assume his new role from December 1, 2025, following the November 30 departure of the local division's current CEO Andreas Brand. The outgoing CEO is assuming a new role in Stuttgart, Germany, where he will be responsible for seven manufacturing operations around the world. The leadership change comes at a time when Mercedes-Benz, along with its fellow German manufacturers, is losing market share in South Africa. To put that into perspective, Mercedes sales dropped by 82% between 2014 and 2024, BusinessTech reported earlier this year, while its counterparts Audi and BMW/Mini have seen their volumes drop by 70% and 50% respectively. New CEO Abey Kgotle currently serves as Executive Director of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs at Mercedes-Benz SA. He assumes the new role with more than 20 years of experience in strategic human resources management as well as labour relations, advanced negotiations and stakeholder engagement. Kgotle has held executive roles at numerous blue-chip companies across the manufacturing and mining industries, including Lonmin and Samancor Manganese. He has also held senior HR management roles at the City of Johannesburg and Naschem, a division of state-owned enterprise Denel. Video Player is loading. We look forward to his leadership that brings new energy and vision as he continues to build on our solid foundation and pursue new opportunities for growth and innovation,' said Wilfried Porth, Chairperson of the Board of Directors. Amazon expands electric fleet with record Mercedes-Benz order

Amazon integrated more than 1,800 fully electric eVito and eSprinter vehicles into its delivery network in 2020. Now nearly 5,000 additional electric vans from Mercedes-Benz will join the fleet in the coming months — the largest single order of electric vehicles (EVs) in the carmaker's history. Mercedes-Benz said the new vehicles will be deployed in five European countries, with a large portion based in Germany. Amazon expects the expanded fleet to deliver more than 200-million parcels annually. 'I am delighted that we are intensifying our long-standing relationship with Amazon and working together towards the fully electric future of transportation,' said Sagree Sardien, head of sales and marketing at Mercedes-Benz Vans. 'The courier, express and parcel service industry again proves to be a key driver of electromobility. Our eVito and eSprinter are perfectly tailored to meet the demands of our commercial customers regarding efficiency and range. They demonstrate that locally CO 2 emission-free driving, impressive performance, comfort and low operating costs can be perfectly combined.' 'This deployment of 5,000 electric delivery vans underscores our work to reduce carbon emissions in our operations,' said Amazon global fleet and product director Neil Emery. 'From electric bikes to vans to trucks and infrastructure, we are well on our way to transforming our transportation network. We look forward to continuing to work with Mercedes-Benz to enable faster electrification and decarbonisation across Europe.'
