"Hopefully sometime in June, we will be able to commence the work," said Bachegowda. He was speaking on the topic - 'The rise of
Global Capability Centres
(GCC) and their importance to Mangaluru', at the 'Techwaves 2025 – Rise of the Silicon Beach of India' organised by the Vertex Managed Workspace here on Friday.
"We have set ourselves about 30 months to inaugurate it; within which we want to complete the centre and hand it over to Mangaluru.
What we did in Electronic City can be replicated in Mangaluru," he said.
Bachegowda said an ecosystem will be created to make Mangaluru the second
Electronic City of Karnataka
. "Presently, we have an idea of putting up about four lakh square feet centre in Blueberry Hill, but this could go up to 10 lakh square feet, based on the zoning regulations which are due to be changed in Mangaluru. We have been working consciously to make sure that the tender and the way we structure the whole programme is more favourable for local players," he said.
Calling Mangaluru one of the emerging cities, he said the coastal region has several engineering colleges. "We have got talent over here. Hence, we want to make sure that the talent present over here gets the opportunities," he said, promising govt support.
"The govt will support you with Internet, power, taxes and tariffs. We have got about a 3.5-acre space, where we are looking to put up a really big IT centre similar to what Bengaluru has in its IT park," he added.
Kobayashi Create India director Koki Kato and NIDEC Advanced Technology Corporation GM Takashi Miyasaka were felicitated on the occasion.

Toyo Japan and MODEC open GCC centre in Bengaluru; to hire 750 employees

BENGALURU: Many multinational companies are now setting up Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India and the recent one to join the list is Toyo Engineering Corporation (Toyo Japan) and MODEC. On Friday, they opened a GCC centre in Bengaluru. The centre will focus on high-value services including Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), Procurement, and FPSO Project Support. Officials said they are planning to increase the workforce from 200 professionals currently to 750 employees over the next three years. Hirohiko Miyata, President and CEO, MODEC, said, "Establishing a GCC in Bengaluru enables us to deliver smarter, more efficient solutions at scale, aligned with the increasingly complex demands of global FPSO projects." Nakane Tsutomu, Consul General of Japan in Bengaluru, said Bengaluru continues to be a strategic hub for Japanese GCCs, driven by its digital excellence and engineering talent. With this GCC, the company aims to enhance operational agility and execution quality across global projects. Though GCCs are creating several job opportunities, attrition is also a growing concern currently. Recently in its study, HR solutions provider CIEL HR revealed that 51% of GCCs in India cite talent retention as their top challenge, amid a sharp rise in attrition, job-switching intent, and employee disengagement. With demand for niche skills like AI, Machine Learning, and Cloud Computing creating a surge in the need for specialised talent, organisations are facing intense competition to attract and retain top professionals, making it increasingly difficult for GCCs to hold on to their talent. Aditya Narayan Mishra, Managing Director and CEO of CIEL HR, said, "India hosts over 1,700 GCCs, nearly 50% of all GCCs worldwide, highlighting the country's pivotal role in global innovation and high-value delivery. Over time, GCCs have transformed from cost-efficiency centres into strategic engines for their respective parent entities, and at the same time, they drive economic growth, job creation, and regional development for India." However, he added rising attrition and talent mobility demand a decisive shift from transactional approaches to holistic employee engagement.

Swiss-Belgian choco giant launches its first Indian GCC in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Barry Callebaut, the Swiss-Belgian chocolate and cocoa giant, has inaugurated its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India. Located in the Orbit building, Hyderabad, the centre was launched by Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan on Thursday. The world's largest processor of cocoa, Barry Callebaut, employs around 13,000 people globally. Its new Hyderabad GCC joins three existing tech hubs in Malaysia, Poland and Mexico. Speaking to TNIE, Ranjan said the company has onboarded 150 employees initially and plans to scale up to 500 in the coming months. Barry Callebaut had considered Mumbai and Bengaluru before finalising Hyderabad. 'The city stood out for its talent pool and favourable sentiment among employees for relocation,' Ranjan said. He also urged the company to explore manufacturing expansion in South India. 'Their production facilities are currently in the west and north. With demand for chocolates growing in the south, setting up a unit here makes strategic sense,' he added. Barry Callebaut also operates a Chocolate Academy in Mumbai, which trains professionals in chocolate-making. The academy's head, present at the launch, confirmed plans to host skill development programmes, masterclasses and hackathons in Hyderabad, strengthening the city's culinary and confectionery ecosystem, according to a press release.
