Mangaluru's rise as IT powerhouse to be discussed

Mangaluru: The city's rising status as the ' Silicon Beach of India ' will take centre-stage at TechWaves 2025 . Gurudutta Shenoy, managing partner of Vertex Managed Workspace , said that all leading IT companies from the region will come together to spark conversations around transformative technologies and futuristic workspaces at the event, organised by Vertex Workspace, at Vertex Five on Friday. He said, much is unfolding in Mangaluru's IT landscape, yet both the public and policymakers are unaware. The city currently boasts around 20,000 IT jobs, with plans to increase that number to two lakh by 2033. The gross state domestic product (GSDP) of Karnataka is estimated to reach Rs 28.8 lakh crore, and Mangaluru contributes 5.5% to Karnataka's GSDP, making it the second-largest contributor after Bengaluru. According to an estimate, he said that the city's IT sector alone generates over Rs 3,000 crore annually, and its share of Karnataka's IT/BPO exports is expected to rise from 1.5% to 5% in the coming years. There are about 15 incubation centres in the region supporting 125 plus startups, he said. At the event, the local IT community will engage in meaningful dialogue with the lawmakers. "Often, industry players remain unaware of their counterparts, and lawmakers may not have a clear picture of the companies operating in the region. This initiative is a step towards understanding Mangaluru's evolving IT landscape and strengthening the ecosystem," he said. Shenoy said the aim is to showcase the local IT ecosystem, especially homegrown talent, highlight emerging trends, attract foreign investment, and position the event as a must-attend for IT leaders. We hope to facilitate cross-industry collaboration among workspace providers, corporations, VCs, CXOs, and govt bodies to accelerate tech adoption. Discussions around deep tech, global capability centres, and digital inclusivity to reinforce the region's leadership in IT innovation will be held. While four panel discussions have been planned, MLA and Keonics chairman Sharath Kumar Bache Gowda will participate in a discussion with industry leaders on the rise of global capability centres and their importance to Mangaluru. Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta will participate in a discussion on the rise of deep tech in Mangaluru. Assembly speaker UT Khader will participate in a discussion on Mangaluru's dominance in the IT service industry. A discussion will also be held on the international property consultants, facilitators of growth in managed workspaces in Mangaluru, said Shenoy.
