R Ashwin breaks silence on IPL trade rumours, asks CSK for clarity

India Today9 hours ago
R Ashwin has broken his silence on the IPL trade rumours about him and revealed that he has asked Chennai Super Kings for clarity ahead of the 2026 season. Ashwin was bought by CSK for 9.75 crore rupees during the IPL 2025 mega auction as it was an emotional homecoming for the former India spinner. However, it was a season to forget for Ashwin as his performances didn't meet expectations. advertisementIn the nine matches that he played, the spinner picked up just seven wickets at an average of 40.43 and an economy rate of 9.13. Ashwin also scored just 33 runs during this time as it was the first time since his debut season that he played less than 12 matches during a season. Recently, a report stated that Ashwin had discussions with CSK about his future and may look for an exit. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the veteran spinner recalled how during his time with RR, he was informed by the franchise about their plans with him.
"I played three years for RR," Ashwin said on his Youtube show. "After my 1st year, I got an email from the CEO saying this is your performance, this is our expectation and we're renewing your contract. It's one plus one plus one - the contract renewal. After every season, it's the responsibility of the franchise to communicate to the player if they're retaining or releasing him," said Ashwin. 'Don't know who is making rumours'Ashwin said that every player has the right to express their interest about being retained or not to franchises. The spinner said that his future isn't in his hands at the moment and said none of the rumours, including the one related to Sanju Samson, are coming from the player's side. "With regard to news about me or Sanju - obviously a player has the right to express interest [if he wishes to be retained or no]. Every player seeks clarity. As things stand, it's not in my hands. I've just asked for clarity. The situation we're in, all the news floating around, none of it is coming from the players. Even with Sanju's news, it's rumours or it's coming from the franchise's side. I don't know who is making this news," said Ashwin. The IPL trade window usually opens a month after the season ends and runs until a week before the next auction.- Ends

Rohit Sharma quashes retirement rumours, links up with a familiar face to regain fitness, prepare for Australia ODIs

Rohit Sharma has resumed training after returning to India. He shared a photo of himself in the gym alongside former India batting coach Abhishek Nayar. After a brief break from cricket, he has shifted focus back on training to regain fitness ahead of the Australia ODIs in October. The 38-year-old announced his retirement from Test cricket in the middle of IPL 2025 ahead of the England tour. The decision came as a shock to many, as a few days later, Virat Kohli also bid adieu to the format. Meanwhile, he has not officially stepped down from the ODI captaincy position, but speculations are rife that the BCCI might give him the big responsibility to Shubman Gill, who recently took over the charge of the Test team. Meanwhile, a report in Dainik Jagran claims that Rohit could soon call time on his ODI career as well. With the Bangladesh series in August now cancelled, India's next 50-over outing will be an away series against Australia from October 19 to 25. The publication further reported that both Rohit and Virat Kohli may bring the curtains down on their ODI journeys after the Australia tour. However, Rohit's return to training suggests he has no intention of stepping away from the 50-over format anytime soon. Rohit went on a break in the UK with his family after the completion of the IPL, where he also went to watch the fifth Test between India and England at the Oval, London. He recently returned to India and, a couple of days later, was spotted in a Mumbai gym, resuming his training with Nayar. The former India coach has been a constant source of support for Rohit, especially during challenging phases in his career. After being left out of the 2011 ODI World Cup squad, Rohit turned to Nayar for guidance, and even today, he continues to train with him to sharpen his skills and maintain peak fitness. In the 2025 IPL, Rohit endured a slow start but bounced back strongly, later crediting Nayar for his resurgence in a heartfelt social media post. Nayar, who was removed as the Indian men's team assistant coach recently, less than a year into the job, recently joined UPW after the franchise parted ways with Jon Lewis, who had been in charge of the team for the last three seasons. The former Indian cricketer also re-joined the KKR camp in the middle of IPL 2025 after getting sacked by the BCCI.

ABD Says IPL Missed 'Golden Opportunity' As Brevis Hits 41-Ball Hundred: 'CSK..'

Last Updated: Dewald Brevis hit a 41-ball century, the second-fastest T20I hundred by a South African, as AB de Villiers lashed out at IPL sides for ignoring him at the auction. Dewald Brevis delivered a remarkable display of power-hitting at the Marrara Cricket Ground on Tuesday, smashing the second-fastest T20I century by a South African and single-handedly dismantling the Australian bowling attack in the second T20I. South Africa, asked to bat first, posted a formidable 218/7 in 20 overs, largely due to Brevis' blistering 41-ball hundred. From the moment he arrived at the crease, the young star went on the offensive, leaving Australian bowlers scrambling for answers in Darwin. Brevis remained unbeaten on a sensational 125 off just 56 deliveries, an innings studded with 12 fours and 8 towering sixes. While his teammates struggled to adapt to the surface, Brevis made batting look effortless, reaching his maiden fifty in the 12th over with a six and accelerating to triple figures in no time. His innings also set a new record — the highest individual score for South Africa in T20Is, surpassing Faf du Plessis' 119. What Did 'ABD' Say About 'Baby AB'? The performance drew admiration from his idol, AB de Villiers, who praised him on social media and suggested that IPL franchises missed a golden chance to sign him. Chennai Super Kings, however, secured Brevis mid-season as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh — a move De Villiers called 'either the biggest masterstroke ever or incredible luck." Brevis justified the signing instantly, scoring 225 runs in just six IPL matches at a strike rate of 180, including two fifties. 'There was such a golden opportunity for IPL teams to pick up Dewald Brevis at the auction! Missed out badly. CSK either got very lucky, or maybe the biggest master stroke ever. The boy can play @BrevisDewald," De Villiers posted on X. Adding: 'Mind boggling that he wasn't picked up at all! To think that he came in as an injury sub." Mind boggling that he wasn't picked up at all! To think that he came in as an injury sub🤷‍♂️😄— AB de Villiers (@ABdeVilliers17) August 12, 2025 On Tuesday, Brevis also shared a crucial 126-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs for the fourth wicket, with Stubbs contributing 31 off 22 balls. For Australia, Ben Dwarshuis was the most economical, taking 2/24 in four overs, but his efforts couldn't stop Brevis from etching his name into South African cricket history. view comments First Published: August 12, 2025, 17:48 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
