Sindh govt announces four holidays on Eid-ul-Adha
According to a notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department, the holidays will apply to all government offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils operating under the administrative control of the provincial government.
'The Government of Sindh declares 06th to 09th June, 2025 (Friday to Monday) as Public Holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha 2025 throughout the Province of Sindh,' read the notification signed by Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah.
However, the order clarified that essential services will remain operational during this period.
The notification has been circulated to all relevant government departments, including law enforcement, revenue, planning, and local government institutions, to ensure compliance.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant Islamic festivals, marked by communal prayers, the ritual sacrifice of animals, and the distribution of meat among family, friends, and the underprivileged.
The federal government has already announced a four-day public holiday on Eid from June 6 to 9.
It should be noted that the first day of Zil Hajj will fall on Thursday, May 29, 2025, while Eid-ul-Adha will be observed on Saturday, June 7.

Sindh govt sets minimum wage at Rs40,000
The Government of Sindh has officially issued a notification setting a minimum monthly wage of Rs40,000 for unskilled workers employed in industrial and commercial establishments across the province. This new wage structure will be effective from July 1, 2025. Shahid Abdul Salam Thaheem, the Provincial Labour Minister, made the announcement, revealing the revised wage scale for different categories of workers. According to the new rates, semi-skilled workers will receive a monthly salary of Rs41,380, skilled workers will earn Rs49,628, and highly skilled workers will be paid Rs51,745. These rates apply to both registered and unregistered establishments across Sindh, ensuring that both male and female workers receive equal pay for equal work. The Minister emphasized that any establishment paying workers on an hourly basis will now be required to ensure a minimum of Rs192 per hour. This new provision aims to safeguard the rights of hourly wage workers and ensure that they are fairly compensated for their labour. Minister Thaheem reiterated that the Sindh government is committed to pro-labour policies and is taking concrete steps to guarantee better working conditions and improved wages for the workforce. He highlighted that this wage revision aims to mitigate the impact of inflation on workers and provide them with a dignified livelihood. "The revision of the minimum wage is a significant step towards alleviating the economic burden on workers, helping them cope with the rising cost of living," the Minister stated. He further assured that the Labour Department is in constant communication with industrialists and will ensure the strict enforcement of labour laws to protect workers' rights.

Fifth PTI leader disqualified in less than two weeks
ISLAMABAD: The electoral body has disqualified another Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, the fourth one in two days and fifth in less than two weeks, this time Member National Assembly (MNA) Abdul Latif, over alleged involvement in 9 May riots. A five-member full bench of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, heard different cases seeking Abdul Latif's disqualification before deciding against him on Tuesday under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution of Pakistan. This Article states that a person shall be disqualified from being elected or chosen as, and from being, a member of the Parliament, if they are, on conviction for any offence involving moral turpitude, sentenced to imprisonment for a term of not less than two years, unless a period of five years has elapsed since their release. This 30 May, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad sentenced PTI members, including MNA Latif, to 27-year imprisonment over 'attacking a police station on 9 May 2023.' Earlier on Monday, the ECP issued disqualification notifications of three PTI leaders; Senator Ejaz Chaudhary, MNA Ahmad Chattha, and Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Ahmad Khan Bhachar, following their convictions by an ATC in connection with 9 May riots. All three were handed 10-year prison sentences under anti-terrorism charges, and disqualified by the electoral body under Article 63(1)(h). On 16 July, the ECP notified the disqualification of Jamshaid Dasti from his NA seat over 'false statements and incorrect declaration,' and directed the officials concerned to initiate legal proceedings against him. He was disqualified under Article 62 (1)(d)(f) which reads that a person shall not be qualified to be elected or chosen as a member of Parliament unless – they are of good character and 'not commonly known as one who violates Islamic injunctions' — and they are 'sagacious, righteous, non-profligate, honest and ameen, there being no declaration to the contrary by a court of law.' The PTI alleges that its leaders are victimised for supporting the incarcerated ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan. Apart from Dasti, cases against other PTI leaders including Leader of the Opposition in the NA Omar Ayub Khan, his two cousins — Akbar Ayub Khan and Arshad Ayub Khan — both of whom are members of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly — Malik Adeel Iqbal, another Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) in KP legislature, and PTI Lahore chapter President Sheikh Imtiaz Mehmood, who is an MPA in Punjab Assembly, are pending in the ECP out of allegedly politically motivated reasons. CS asks food dept to conduct survey of wheat stocks
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah has directed the Food Department to immediately conduct a comprehensive and transparent survey of wheat stocks, crop coverage, and consumption across the province. Presiding over a meeting on Sindh's wheat policy, he emphasised the importance of having accurate and up-to-date data to ensure better planning and management of food supplies. To enhance crop monitoring and reporting, the Chief Secretary also instructed the Agriculture Department to acquire satellite imagery services. This move aims to enable scientific and timely crop assessments, thereby improving agricultural planning and food security. Regarding the upcoming wheat cultivation season, Chief Secretary stressed the need to expedite the government's initiative to provide certified wheat seeds, fertilizers (especially urea), and modern agricultural machinery to farmers. He stated that the Government of Sindh will provide certified seeds, urea, and agricultural machinery to farmers on a priority basis. He added that the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah had also announced in his budget speech that certified seeds, fertilizers, and machinery will be immediately provided to farmers to ensure better yield in the next wheat season. He also emphasized that the Agriculture Department must formulate a pricing mechanism that encourages farmers to grow wheat by ensuring profitability and market stability. 'The goal of the government's agricultural policy is to enhance wheat production and ensure food security for the people of Sindh.' The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Food Abdul Jabbar Khan, Secretary Agriculture Muhammad Zaman Narejo, Secretary Food, and senior officials from the Food and Agriculture departments. During the briefing, Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Food Abdul Jabbar Khan informed that the Sindh Food Department currently holds 1.392 million metric tons (MMT) of wheat, while private stakeholders—including around 250 flour mill owners, 3,150 chakkis, and private traders—possess approximately 2.200 MMT of additional wheat stocks.
