Oscar-winner Mstyslav Chernov's '2000 Meters To Andriivka' will compete for the Tim Hetherington Award at this year's Sheffield Doc/Fest.
The six-day British doc festival begins on June 18 and includes a program of 116 films (82 features and 34 shorts) selected from over 2753 entries. The lineup features 51 world premieres, 16 international premieres, eight European premieres, and 39 UK premieres from 68 countries.

About a group of soldiers fighting their way through two kilometers of war-torn terrain to liberate a devastated Ukrainian village, Chernov's '2000 Meters To Andriivka' debuted at Sundance 2025. It is one of several feature films about Ukraine heading to the 32nd Sheffield Doc/Fest, which announced its full lineup Wednesday.
Two Ukraine-based docs – Yegor Troyanovsky's 'Cuba & Alaska' and Mila Teshaieva and Marcus Lenz's 'Shards of Light' are vying for the Grand Jury prize in the Sheffield's International Competition category. In 'Cuba & Alaska,' phone and body-cam footage tell the story of two female medics in Ukraine's army as they navigate the chaos of war with bravery, humor, and friendship. 'Shards of Light' captures how war has ravaged the Ukrainian city of Bucha and affected the city's residents. Both films will make their respective world premiere at Sheffield.
In Artem Ryzhykov and Juan Camilo Cruz's 'A Simple Soldier,' Ryzhykov, an Award-winning Ukrainian filmmaker and cinematographer, transforms into a hardened professional soldier as he navigates the confusion, chaos, heartache and reality of modern warfare. 'A Simple Soldier' and Chernov's '2000 Meters To Andriivka' are two of six films competing for the fest's Tim Hetherington Award.
The four other films in the category are: Nayibe Tavares-Abel's 'Colossal,' about a filmmaker who investigates her grandfather's work on the 1990 Dominican elections; Hosam Abu Dan's 'Gaza Sound Man,' about the realities of life on the ground in Palestine before and after October 7, 2023; Bao Nguyen's 'The Stringer,' a Sundance 2025 film about a whistleblower who prompts an investigation into the true history behind one of the most iconic photographs of the 20th century; and Hind Meddeb's 'Sudan, Remember Us,' a chronicle of Sudan's youth revolution that depicts how hope was ignited though through music, murals and the unyielding power of words.

In addition to '2000 Meters To Andriivka' and 'The Stringer,' several Sundance 2025 docs have been invited to screen at the fest including: Violet Du Feng's 'The Dating Game,' Tony Benna's 'André is an Idiot,' and Kim A. Snyder's 'The Librarians.'
As previously announced, the world premiere of Kim Hopkins' 'Still Pushing Pineapples' will open Sheffield DocFest 2025. About Dene Michael, the former singer of Black Lace and pop band behind the novelty Brit party favourite 'Agadoo,' the film follows the lead singer's journey on the road with his aging mother and a partner, as he aims for a comeback.
Sheffield titles screen in three competition sections: International Competition, International First Feature Competition, and International Short Film Competition. In addition to the previously announced guests of honor program featuring Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, the co-founders of the media company World of Wonder, the festival will present its Podcast Stories strand and previews of television series episodes in its First Impressions strand.
Out of competition films screen in six strand sections: Rhythms, Debates, People & Community, Memories, Rebellions, and Journeys.
'Sheffield DocFest is one of Sheffield's flagship events and a key date in our cultural calendar,' said Shefflield Councillor Martin Smith. 'The event proudly puts the city on the world stage.'
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the DocFest MeetMarket, with eight films in the program having participated in prior MeetMarkets.
The 32nd annual Sheffield DocFest takes place June 18-23.

Speaking about her sometimes complex relationship with her parents, Miley said that she 'took on some of [her] mom's hurt' when Tish Cyrus and Billy Ray divorced in 2022, which led to her estrangement form her father. Miley didn't even thank Billy Ray in her Grammys accptence speech, fueling more rumors of a Cyrus family feud. But now that her mom is married to actor Dominic Purcell and Billy Ray is dating Elizabeth, Miley says she feels like her 'adult self has caught up.' She continued, 'My mom is like so in love with my stepdad Dom, who I also just completely adore. And now that my dad, I see him finding happiness outside of that too, I can love them both as individuals instead of as a kind of, you know, a parental pairing.' 'At first, it's hard,' Miley said of seeing her parents back in the dating pool. 'The little kid in you reacts before the adult in you and go, 'Yes, that's your dad, but that's just another person that deserves to be in his bliss and be happy.'' This show of public support comes about a month after Miley commented on the family feud and announced that she and her father had reconciled. 'My dad and I have had our challenges over the years. Now, in my thirties, family is my priority above all else. I'm at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing,' she wrote on her Instagram Stories. Department Q Season 2 - News, Cast, and Plot Details
At the end of last week Netflix dropped their newest thriller series Department Q and it's safe to say fans are already begging for another season (hi yes, we're fans). The nine-part series follows grumpy Detective Morck (Matthew Goode) who is assigned a new department at the police station in Edinburgh, where he's given cold cases to solve. For his first job he choses to solve the mysterious disappearance of prosecutor Merritt Lingard (Chloe Pirrie) who went missing four years previously. Since the show was released last week Thursday, (May 29), fans have taken to social media to praise the series, and crucially share their enthusiasm for another season. One person wrote on X: "Season 2 of Department Q needs to happen 100%. Such an amazing cast and I was hooked all the way through. I already want more. Please make it happen." While someone else said: "Need #departmentq season 2 greenlit immediately! this was excellent," and another wrote: "Dear @netflix please please please please do a second season of #departmentQ - it's THAT GOOD." So is Netflix going to answer our prayers and give us a season two? Well here's what we know so far. Right now there's been no word from Netflix on the show getting renewed. However, there's a lot of reasons to be hopeful the show will come back. Department Q is based on a series of books by Jussi Adler-Olsen and so there's already a number of existing plots and angles the show could carry on exploring. There's 10 books in the series so could this potentially translate to another nine seasons? And in even more encouraging news, many of the cast have expressed their interest in returning for another season. Chloe Pirrie, who plays Merritt in the series, told Cosmopolitan UK she hopes the show does return. "I think it would be really great for the cast," she said. "And great for Scotland to have a show like this run again. It's definitely something we would all want." Speaking to Yahoo last week, series lead Matthew Goode told the publication, "that's the hope," when asked about a season 2. He also added he wanted to see more of Alexej's Manvelov's character Akram in a potential season 2, saying: "I was saying to Scott [Frank, the show's creator] the other day, what we really need to do is, A, season 2, and we need to get Alexej into eight weeks of Krav Magar training so the fight scenes in season 2 can be amazing. It's going to be a sort of Syrian Bourne." Manvelov is also keen of the show to return, telling Yahoo: "Hopefully we get to come back down." As for the show's creator Scott Frank? Well he's very keen for the show to get a second run as he felt there was more to explore with the cast and plots. "The last three shows I made were meant to be one and done," he told the BBC. "There was no more to say but I'd love to do more with this and the next book in the series is even more interesting and relevant." Well, as Scott says there's a lot more to play with when it comes to Department Q as the TV series is inspired by a number of books by Jussi Adler-Olsen. The first season is inspired by the novel Mercy, which follows a similar plotline to the TV series. If the Netflix show were to then follow the order of the Department Q books the next one to be adapted would be The Absent One. The Absent One is about Detective Morck solving another cold case, this time involving the double murder of a brother and sister who were killed two decades ago. One of the suspects for the crime is serving time, however Carl suspects everything is not quite what it seems and there are still some questions that need answering. We also never get a proper answer as to what happened with Carl during the initial shoot-out and who was responsible for the death of the police officer at the beginning of the season, and so we'd hope to get some answers to this if the show were to be renewed. If the show were to return for a second season, we of course can't imagine it without Matthew Goode as Detective Carl Morck. We'd also hope to see Alexej Manvelov and Leah Byrne reprise their roles as Morck's team members Akram and Rose. We'd also imagine Kelly Macdonald returning as Dr. Rachel Irving, Kate Dickie as Moira, Aaron McVeigh as Jasper and Jamie Sives as James Hardy. There's also a possibility Chloe Pirrie could reprise her role as Merritt Lingard and Mark Bonnar as Stephen Burns, if Detective Morck sees his cases end up in court.

Tom Llamas 'excited' and ready to put his stamp on 'Nightly News' as he takes over
Tom Llamas said he's "excited" to take the helm of "Nightly News" and will live by his tenets of being "tough but fair" while reporting "without fear or favor." Llamas succeeds Lester Holt as anchor and managing editor of 'Nightly News' in a historic move making him the first weekday Latino evening news anchor of an English-language show. "I'm a little nervous, but I'm looking forward to the challenge," Llamas told "TODAY" anchor Savannah Guthrie in a sit-down interview. His new role is the peak of his decadeslong career in journalism, that started when he was just 15. "Never, ever in my wildest dreams, did I think I could get to that point ... You get a new opportunity, a new challenge, and you get to a point where you think, 'Wow, maybe that could be me,'' Llamas reflected. "You just kind of keep running your race, and that's what I've been doing. It's like everybody dreams of this happening to them." He said he'll come into work with the same fire and fuel he had when he was younger working overnights in the industry "because I know this is a calling." Llamas said that little by little, "I do want to put my stamp" on "Nightly News." "I'd like to launch an investigative series into the insurance industry. I think people are having a tough time getting house insurance, getting medical insurance, trying to find a doctor, trying to get their kids covered. So I think we should take a look at that a little closer," he explained. Holt announced in February that he planned to step down over the summer. He will remain a fixture at NBC with a full-time role at 'Dateline,' where he has been the principal anchor for nearly 15 years. In addition to his duties at 'Nightly News,' Llamas will continue to anchor 'Top Story,' a daily evening newscast that streams on NBC News NOW. Llamas started out as an intern at a local Telemundo station before kick-starting his professional journalism career at NBC News, working as an overnight production assistant and then a political campaign embed. He rose through the news business as a local journalist at WTVJ in Miami and WNBC in New York. He later moved to ABC, serving as the network's chief national affairs correspondent and anchoring weekend editions of 'World News Tonight.' Llamas returned to NBC News in 2021 as a senior national correspondent and then took the helm at 'Top Story.' He was a regular fill-in anchor on 'Nightly News.' In recent years, Llamas has led coverage of major breaking news and political events for NBC News Now, reporting on pivotal storylines such as the Israel-Hamas war; Russia's invasion of Ukraine; the July 2024 assassination attempt on Donald Trump; and the Tokyo and the Paris Olympics. He has interviewed key world leaders, including Trump during the 2016 presidential contest, as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Llamas, who grew up in Miami in a Cuban American family, credited his parents with inspiring his journey. "My parents came here as immigrants. They came here with nothing. Their son is now going to be the anchor of 'Nightly News,' one of the biggest and most important newscasts in our country. What it tells me is that the American dream is still alive. I know that because I'm living it," he said. He also praised his three children, calling them "my biggest cheerleaders," and his wife, a television producer and "his best editor," with helping him soar in his career.
