KPWKM bags ASEAN PR Award for social impact excellence
Deputy Secretary-General (Operations) Farah Adura Hamidi accepted the award on behalf of the ministry.
In a statement, KPWKM said the award reflects its ongoing commitment to advancing the rights and wellbeing of women, families and communities in line with the Madani vision.
'Among the notable initiatives highlighted were the K.A.S.I.H KPWKM Peduli Rakyat programme which covers aid distribution, temporary relief centre (PPS) operations and post-disaster support provided by the Social Welfare Department (JKM),' it said.
The ministry also cited its psychosocial support services offered through the One-Stop Social Support Centres (PSSS), managed by the National Welfare Foundation (YKN) and the Malaysian Board of Counsellors, along with the 24-hour Talian Kasih 15999 hotline, which provides immediate assistance to individuals in crisis.
Its outreach efforts in remote communities, including the Kembara KASIH KPWKM and Ziarah KASIH KPWKM programmes, aimed at assisting disaster victims, were also recognised.
KPWKM said it remains committed to empowering women, protecting children, supporting persons with disabilities and senior citizens, and strengthening the family unit.
Internationally, the ministry continues to represent Malaysia at global conventions on women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
'The award is expected to further strengthen the ministry's communication strategies and enhance its role as a key driver of social development at the regional level,' it added.
The recognition marks a significant milestone for KPWKM, acknowledging its efforts in leading the country's social development agenda through impactful initiatives and effective public outreach conducted by its departments and agencies.

In a compassionate show of solidarity, Sarawak Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, visited the grieving family at Kampung Sungai Alo on Saturday. Fatimah, who is also the Dalat assemblywoman, led the delivery of welfare aid from the state government and various agencies. According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Fatimah announced that the four children would receive monthly assistance of RM800 under the Children's Aid Scheme. In addition, the children would also receive RM50 per month from the state's Special Provision Fund (TPN) for a period of one year, starting from August 2025 until July 2026. 'This assistance is aimed at ensuring the children's well-being is safeguarded and their education and daily lives can continue smoothly despite the loss of their parents,' Fatimah told reporters. A one-off cash aid of RM400 was also credited directly into the account of their aunt, Hawi Shafiee, who is now the children's legal guardian. Several schools, including SK Kampung Seberang, SMK Three Rivers, SMK St Patrick, and the Mukah branch of Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS), also stepped in to provide essential supplies and financial support. This initiative reflects the compassion and solidarity of both the community and the government in supporting children through tragic circumstances. Bintulu's new transit centre for homeless set to open in October

According to Sarawak Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah in a Sarawak Public Communications unit (Ukas) report, the centre provides a safer, more dignified and inclusive temporary refuge to the homeless community here. 'We are grateful to the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) for allowing the transformation of this site, previously an extremely dilapidated house, into a proper transit centre,' she said during a working visit to the site recently. The building will also house a Community Social Support Centre (CSSC), meant to serve as a venue for non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community leaders, and government agencies to conduct social welfare programmes. Equipped with basic amenities including sleeping quarters, dining areas, and bathing facilities, the TTG is designed as an integrated intervention hub offering health screenings, profiling, counselling, motivation sessions, and skills training to help the homeless transition to independent living. 'Our goal is for individuals leaving this centre to do so with renewed confidence and skills that enable them to earn a living and reintegrate into society,' said Fatimah, who was accompanied by her deputy minister Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, the ministry's permanent secretary Datu Felicia Tan, Sarawak Social Development Council (MPS) executive secretary Riziandy Nawawi, and Bintulu Resident Office administrative officer Sharpini Daud. The Sarawak government has approved RM1.8 million to operate four TTGs across the state — each in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri. The Bintulu TTG is the third facility having reached completion, following those in Kuching and Sibu. The TTG Miri, which has also been completed, is expected to become operational next month. The establishment of TTGs is part of Sarawak's Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, aligning with five key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): poverty eradication, zero hunger, good health and well-being, decent work and economic growth, and reduced inequalities. Citing data from the Welfare DepartmentSarawak , Ukas reported 133 recorded homeless cases statewide last year — an increase of 13.68 from 117 cases in 2023, with Sibu recording the highest number of cases.
