Nashik Municipal Corporation gets 81cr grant from state through 1% local body cess

Time of India27-04-2025

Nashik: The
Nashik Municipal Corporation
(NMC) received a grant of Rs81 crore from state govt through the 1%
local body cess
(LBC).
The civic administration said that property buyers within the municipal corporation limits are required to pay a total of 6% as stamp duty — comprising 5% as the standard stamp duty and 1% as the local body cess.
State govt collects this 1% local body cess and subsequently transfers it to the respective municipal corporations. During the financial year 2024-25, the state's stamp duty department collected Rs138 crore through the 1% LBC. However, the NMC received only Rs81 crore during the same period.
The NMC is yet to receive Rs56 crore from state govt. In 2023-24, the civic body received only Rs54 crore of the total Rs128 crore grant under the 1% local body cess. "For 2023-24, grant of Rs74 crore is still pending with the state. A total grant of Rs275 crore since April 2020 is still pending with state govt under the 1% LBC," an NMC official said.

"We are planning to send a letter to state govt, requesting to release of the pending grant under the 1% local body cess. The letter will be sent after approval from NMC commissioner Manisha Khatri," the official added.
The upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela is being held in 2027, and the NMC needs funds to share its 25% contribution of the total spending.
During the Kumbh Mela held in 2015, the NMC contributed 25% of the Rs1,050 crore in Kumbh Mela development plans approved by state govt.
Looking ahead to the next Kumbh Mela, the NMC official said, "We anticipate needing at least Rs1,500 crore as our contribution. Therefore, we are requesting state govt to release the pending grant in preparation for the upcoming Kumbh Mela."

Paint companies face profitability challenges amidst high competition

Mumbai: Investor woes in shares of paints companies may be far from over as the hyper competition in the sector and tepid demand are expected to continue squeezing profitability in the sector. With valuations remaining elevated despite the recent underperformance in the shares, money managers and analysts are less enthusiastic about their prospects in the foreseeable future. So far in 2025, Asian Paints is down 4.2% and Kansai Nerolac has fallen 4.5%. Berger Paints bucked the trend, rising 24%. In comparison, the Nifty 50 is up 6%. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: 1 simple trick to get all TV channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo Morgan Stanley said this 'de-rating' is not yet done. Agencies "While there is consensus on the sell side on growth and ratings, we think the exact extent of a potential de-rating for paint stocks is not yet understood," said the brokerage in a recent note. The apathy for paints shares among investors and analysts is a contrast to the situation three years ago when they were Dalal Street darlings for over a decade. The entry of deep-pocketed players like the Aditya Birla Group into the sector has resulted in companies focussing on fighting for market share, putting pressure on profitability. "The overall competitive intensity will remain high for the next two years," said Aniruddha Kekatpure, head of research at Edelweiss Mutual Fund. "If the new entrant executes better than expected, the stock prices of incumbents will likely continue to languish." Live Events The recent declines in paint shares have removed some froth of their valuations, which were considered among the most expensive in the consumer-facing businesses. "While valuations have moderated from their post-COVID highs, they continue to remain elevated amid persistent growth and margin pressures," Vaqarjaved Khan, senior fundamental analyst at Angel One. Khan said the estimated Price to Earnings (P/E) ratio - a popular valuation measure - for most paint companies still hovers around 48-55x, a rich multiple, especially when the growth outlook for FY26 appears clouded.

Here's when Elon Musk's Tesla is planning to launch its robo taxi service in US

Representative Image Elon Musk has announced a "tentative" launch date for Tesla's robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, set for June 22. The Tesla CEO made this announcement in a post shared on the social media platform X (earlier Twitter), indicating that he'll be travelling from Los Angeles to Austin for the kickoff. Previously, the tech billionaire mentioned a June launch window for the service. When inquired about the start of public rides for the service, Musk specified June 22 as the current plan. He also noted that the first driverless trip from the Tesla factory to a customer's house is scheduled to occur on his birthday, June 28. In his X post, Musk wrote: 'Tentatively, June 22. We are being super paranoid about safety, so the date could shift. First Tesla that drives itself from factory end of line all the way to a customer house is June 28.' The clip showed a black Model Y SUV, marked with a 'Robotaxi' logo, navigating an intersection and pausing for pedestrians, without a human driver inside. Musk said the pilot phase will be limited, starting with 10 to 20 vehicles equipped with a new 'unsupervised' version of Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software. These initial tests will use the Model Y, rather than the upcoming CyberCab, which is scheduled for production next year. He added that the rollout will be 'geofenced,' meaning the robotaxis will only operate within specific areas, and Tesla employees will monitor them remotely. While some Tesla fans are excited by the launch in Austin, critics, particularly those concerned about road safety and Musk's political affiliations, have raised objections and are planning protests.
