ED raids 12 locations in Jharkhand, West Bengal, Maharashtra in ₹750 crore ITC scam
The searches, carried out under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, began early in the morning.
Officials revealed that the case centers on a network of shell companies and unauthorised financial channels used to generate and launder fraudulent ITC claims, ANI reported.
The investigation originated from the arrest of Shiva Kumar Deora, alleged to be the mastermind of the syndicate. Deora was taken into custody in May 2025 and was charged with last month. Officials say his interrogation and seized evidence revealed the involvement of several other individuals and firms in laundering the proceeds of crime.
As per the officials, the ongoing search operation is based on credible leads that helped the agency identify additional beneficiaries and financial conduits within the illicit network.

Ex-R&AW officer in Pannun case linked to Mahadev app staff in Dubai: Delhi Police
After he was accused of kidnapping and robbing a Delhi businessman, Vikash Yadav, the former R&AW officer who was named by US authorities as a co-conspirator in an alleged plot to kill Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, is now being linked to an alleged member of the 'Mahadev Online Book' betting racket, Delhi police records show. On December 18, 2023, the Delhi Police Special Cell arrested Yadav after an FIR was filed against him by a Rohini resident, accusing him of extortion and kidnapping and linking him to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The arrest came just three weeks after Yadav's name was listed in the Pannun case by US authorities. Police records show the probe in the Rohini case against Yadav led to the arrest on July 1 this year of a man identified as Jalaluddin alias Sameer in Chanakyapuri for his alleged key role in the criminal conspiracy. 'The probe revealed that Jalaluddin, who worked with the online book app in Dubai, approached Yadav to kidnap the complainant and threaten him as he was not paying up money owed. Yadav roped in his associate Khan, who works as a car dealer, and they got Rs 16 lakh through hawala from Jalaluddin,' sources said. The investigation officer (IO) is likely to inform the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing the Mahadev case, about Jalaluddin, the sources said. In the Rohini case FIR, the complainant had alleged that after kidnapping him, Yadav claimed there was a 'supari' (contract) to eliminate him from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi at the behest of Dubai-based Jalaluddin. 'The complainant told them he had nothing to do with Lawrence Bishnoi, but Abdullah Khan (Yadav's alleged associate) threatened him with a pistol. They told him that he was not making some pending payment to Jalaluddin. Yadav also received a call from Jalaluddin and he mentioned that the first dose of injection had been given to him,' the complainant alleged in the FIR. The complainant had also claimed he was 'hit on my head' by Khan, and forced to hand over his gold chain and rings. He claimed they also visited a café that he runs and took cash from the outlet. On July 23, while hearing a bail plea by Jalaluddin, Additional Sessions Judge Saurabh Partap Singh Laler ruled that he 'should not leave the country without prior permission of the court, his passport is already seized by the IO and he should not tamper with evidence, influence witnesses, or contact the complainant directly or indirectly'. All the three accused, including Yadav, are out on bail, and police have started preparing a supplementary chargesheet in the Rohini case. The complainant's advocate, Rahul Thukral, said they will oppose Jalaluddin's bail in the Delhi High Court. 'After the registration of the FIR in 2023, he was threatening the complainant and since he is out on bail, the complainant is still scared,' he said. The Mahadev betting app scam relates to alleged money-laundering totalling an estimated Rs 6,000 crore by the promoters through 'illegal acts of online betting' on various social media platforms. PM Narendra Modi says economy strong, seeks self-reliance in tech
India is the world's fastest-growing major economy and is rapidly moving towards becoming a global leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Bengaluru on Saturday, days after US President Donald Trump described the country's economy as 'dead' amid escalating trade tensions between the two nations. 'India is currently the fastest-growing major economy in the world. In the past eleven years, India's economy has risen from the 10th position to the top five globally and is rapidly progressing towards becoming one of the top three economies,' he said. The PM's endorsement of the country's economic growth came after Trump, on July 30, announced 25% punitive tariffs on Indian goods entering America for purchasing Russian oil. A day later he again targeted India, saying, 'I don't care what India does with Russia… They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care.' On August 6, he signed an executive order imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods. India has called the American actions 'unfair, unjustified and unreasonable' and said it will take all actions necessary to protect its national interests. In his address, Modi also called for the country to accelerate its self-reliance in the technology sector as he pressed for a stronger 'Tech Atmanirbhar Bharat'. 'Indian tech companies have made their mark on the global stage. They have built software and products for the world. The time has come to give greater priority to the needs of India. We must move forward in manufacturing new products,' he said. The statement was in line with his August 2 remarks in which he called on citizens to adopt the spirit of 'swadeshi' and support locally made products, stressing that true service to the nation lies in promoting indigenous goods amid global economic uncertainties. The additional 25% tariffs, due to take effect on August 27, will put Indian exporters at a significant disadvantage compared to their rivals in Bangladesh, Indonesia and Vietnam – which face tariffs of between 19% and 20%. In his speech, Modi said that the country's rapid pace of development was linked to its economic growth as he focused on the rise of the country's exports. 'Before 2014, India's total export was $468 billion, but today it is $824 billion. We used to import mobile phones but now we are among the top five exporters of mobile handsets. Our electronic export before 2014 was $6 billion, which has gone up to $38 billion dollars,' Modi said. He added: 'These achievements give strength to our concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). We will march together and build a developed India.'
