Rao, along with the Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru, Seemanth Kumar Singh, was briefing the media here about how Bengaluru is preparing for the state-level ceremony to be held on August 15 at Field Marshal Manik Shah Parade Ground, Cubbon Road, Bengaluru.
'Earlier invitations were distributed by government officials to special invitees and to those involved in the ceremony. Now, people can obtain an e-pass from the Seva Sindhu website (www.sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in),' added the commissioner.
He said a live telecast of the programme is also available on Doordarshan. According to him, the viewing gallery for the public at the venue has been expanded to allow more people to watch the programme in person.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will hoist the Indian flag, following which he will inspect the parade in an open jeep and receive the guard of honour. Siddaramaiah will also deliver an Independence Day message. On ground security checks are already underway, said the Police Commissioner. 'Police have been deployed on guard duty at the ground for the last 15 days. They are also checking all the hotels, lodges and rest houses for any suspicious activities,' said Singh. CCTV cameras and baggage scanners, Door Frame Metal Detector and Hand-Held Metal Detector have been installed around the ground to closely monitor all the events, he added.
He also appealed to those with green passes (e-passes) to arrive at Gate no. 05 from the Manipal Centre side via Cubbon Road.
He urged people not to carry any unnecessary luggage or items with them. Even essential items like mobile phones, water bottles, helmets, cameras, radios and umbrellas are best left behind to facilitate quick entry into the venue, he added.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru Traffic Police has appealed to the public to use public transport and metro service as much as possible, due to the lack of space for parking vehicles at Manik Shah Parade Ground and nearby areas.
Parking will not be allowed at Central Street (from Anil Kumble Circle to Shivajinagar Bus Stand), Cubbon Road (from CTO Circle to K R Road and Cubbon Road Junction) and MG Road, from Anil Kumble Circle to Trinity Circle), added a Traffic Police advisory issued on Wednesday.

Thieves strike at swimmer Bula Choudhury's home, make off with all medals, Padma Shri
1 2 Kolkata/Hindmotor: Thieves broke into the Hindmotor house of former ace swimmer Bula Choudhury and cleaned up her trophy cabinet that contained almost all her awards — over 150 medals and mementos that she had won during a career spanning more than a decade-and-a-half. Student dies in mishap at time of I-Day function in Jodhpur
1 2 Jodhpur: A 12-year-old school student died here after being hit by a dumper truck early morning on Independence Day, while three other students accompanying him were seriously injured. All four were heading to their school on one motorcycle. Enraged family members and local residents staged a protest and blocked the road at Panchbatti Chowk. They were joined by Congress leaders to support their demands. They demanded strict action against the guilty dumper driver, along with compensation, an impartial investigation, and a job for one member of the family. After several hours of discussions, the protest was called off following an assurance of immediate financial aid of Rs 11 lakh from the CM Relief Fund, along with a promise to provide a contractual job to one dependent of the family and to extend benefits of govt schemes by the administration. This incident took place at a time when Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma was scheduled to attend an Independence Day programme at the Shaheed Memorial in Jodhpur, barely a few meters away from the accident spot. Firing between rival gangs rocks Jodhpur
Jodhpur: There was an abrupt surge in incidents of firing in Jodhpur around Independence Day. After an incident on Aug 14 in Paota area, where a bullet shot by an unidentified person hit a female student in her elbow, yet another incident of firing amid gang rivalry near Ummed Stadium on Saturday unleashed panic in the city. The firing took place barely a few meters away from the local police post. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, showing members of rival gangs fighting. It is reported that after the physical clash, persons from one gang opened fire on the other. However, nobody was reported hurt in the firing. As soon as information was received, a police team reached the spot and began an investigation. Police officers said they are gathering details by speaking with local residents, while also working to identify the accused with the help of nearby CCTV cameras. SHO (Udai Mandir) Sitaram Khoja said the firing was due to gang rivalry and was aimed at threatening the other gang. "We have registered a case and initiated investigation," Khoja said. The two gangs involved have been identified as the Tantiya gang and the NCR gang. The firing is said to have been carried out by the members of the NCR gang.
