OnePlus 13s key features revealed ahead of June 5 launch in India
OnePlus has confirmed the launch of its new smartphone, the OnePlus 13s, in India for June 5 at 12 PM IST. This model will mark the company's entry into the compact flagship segment and follows its recent introduction in China as the OnePlus 13T. Furthermore, before its launch in India, the key features and specifications of the upcoming OnePlus 13s were revealed online. Let's take a look at what's in store.
The OnePlus 13s will come in three colour options: Black Velvet, Pink Satin, and Green Silk. The green variant will be exclusive to the Indian market. Although the official price is yet to be announced, industry sources suggest it may start below Rs. 55,000. This model is a rebranded version of the OnePlus 13T, which was launched in China last month with a starting price of CNY 3,399 (around Rs. 40,000).

OnePlus 13s will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a flagship-level processor designed to deliver strong performance. The phone will also incorporate a 4400 square mm Cryo-Velocity vapour chamber and a cooling layer on the back cover, which will help the device manage heat during extended use. During tests with the game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), the phone maintained stable frame rates for up to seven hours until the battery drained completely, according to the company reports.

The company also highlighted the battery life during common usage scenarios. It claims the device can last up to 24 hours during WhatsApp calls and provide 16 hours of Instagram browsing on a single charge. This suggests that the phone balances power efficiency with endurance.
OnePlus has introduced a new Plus key that replaces the traditional alert slider. This button can be customised to control sound profiles, vibration settings, Do Not Disturb mode, and AI-based tools with a single press. The feature will add convenience by providing quick access to essential functions.

Furthermore, the connectivity has received attention as well. The OnePlus 13s will feature an upgraded 360-degree antenna system that includes 11 antennas, with three high-performance modules and four ultra-wideband low-frequency antennas, according to the reports. The company's signal-balance mode aims to reduce the effects of physical obstructions such as hand placement, which will potentially improve signal strength by up to 60 percent.
For Wi-Fi connectivity, the phone will support the G1 Wi-Fi chipset, developed specifically for smartphones in India. This aims to ensure stable connections in challenging environments like metros or buildings with weak signals. The device will also support 5.5G technology, which will allow it to connect to three network cells from different towers simultaneously, and that will enhance the device's network reliability and speed.

Boom in AI fuels a flurry of startups
New Delhi: There's a scramble to register artificial intelligence (AI) focused companies, as India's public and private sectors embrace the technology that's transforming industries worldwide. Company registration data shows that 100-200 new AI-centric businesses take birth every month as tech entrepreneurs venture into health, agriculture, cloud, and robotics, powering the country's robust service sector. In April alone, 226 AI-focused businesses were incorporated, a jump from 86 a year earlier, data from the ministry of corporate affairs showed. That again was a big jump from a small base in the year before. Most of the new ventures in April were companies, while more than two dozen were limited liability partnerships (LLPs). April surge In the first three months of 2025, AI-focused business registrations steadily rose from 124 to 203, data showed. Many of these businesses feature 'AI' prominently in their names, as well as others like health, farm, cloud, robotics etc. Experts say India's combination of technology and software talent, moderating computing costs and innovation in solving social and business challenges are driving entrepreneurship in the AI space. Availability of free versions of large language models such as ChatGPT, wide usage of smartphones and low internet cost are aiding in AI's wider use. Angel investors 'It's no longer just venture capital firms like Lightspeed, Peak XV, and Pi Ventures writing early cheques, but ex-founders and product leaders from Flipkart, Freshworks and Google India are also stepping in as angel investors, validating ideas and syndicating deals upstream. Sarvam AI's $41 million raise, backed by Lightspeed, Khosla Ventures, and Peak XV, is a case in point," said Pandharkar, referring to the transaction announced in 2023. Lightspeed Management Co., LLC on its website lists over 75 Indian companies it has invested in including Zepto, Razorpay and Sarvam AI, a generative AI start-up. "This blend of hands-on expertise and institutional capital is collapsing the funding cycle and helping technical founders commercialize faster," Pandharkar said. Businesses are using AI-driven chatbots to track orders and tackle customer grievances, replacing humans. Generative AI is not just another technological cycle but a generational shift, N. This comprehensive initiative rests on seven pillars, including building compute infrastructure, fostering future skills, financing startups, promoting innovation centres, creating data platforms, developing applications, and ensuring safe and trusted AI. AI offers multiple entrepreneurship opportunities which include building applications or utilities and offering consulting services, said Kashyap Kompella, AI analyst and founder of tech consultancy RPA2AI, which has offices in Bangalore, London, Boston and in Washington DC. 'As Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI has boldly articulated, AI may make it possible for a one-person company to become a billion-dollar unicorn. In that sense, AI offers great opportunities and growth potential. AI has certainly lowered the entry barrier for entrepreneurship by reducing the resource requirement for starting a business. However, competition in this sector is as intense as in the rest of the technology focused industries which will determine the success rate of businesses," explained Kashyap Kompella. But is a bubble forming? Pandharkar of EY said the broader investment landscape shows rising capital flows and expanding interest across verticals and yet, there are signs of caution. 'Investors are shifting from hype to fundamentals. Rather than a clear bubble, the market appears to be in a maturation phase where investors are becoming more selective, focusing on companies with viable business models generating revenue and proven use cases than speculative AI applications," he said. 'The divergence between the rapid growth in startup numbers and the more modest growth in funding suggests a market that is rationalizing even as it expands. Capital is plentiful but more selective than 2021 highs, so any correction in 2025-26 is likely to be a healthy deflation rather than a bubble burst," said Pandharkar. Multilingual India-specific large language models, public-sector adoption of AI, security analysis and software development assistance keep long-term value creation intact, he said. 14,000 GPUs to be added to existing govt. cluster: Vaishnaw
The IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will acquire 14,000 Graphics Processing Units in addition to the 18,000 already procured, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Thursday. GPUs are in high demand for training and deploying AI models. Speaking at an event organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Mr. Vaishnaw said, 'Our target was to have 10,000 GPUs made available to everybody; create a bank of GPUs, create a data center of GPUs and open it to all possible people who would like to use it for a fee. Against a target of 10,000 in the first round itself, we got 18,000 GPUs. Now we are about to get another 14,000 GPUs.' Under the IndiaAI Compute Capacity initiative, the Union government has procured GPUs in bulk to be hosted at a common compute facility, from which startups and academia who are registered on the platform can access the infrastructure for a subsidised cost compared to industry standards. GPUs have been extensively used for training generative large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT and DeepSeek. Mr. Vaishnaw announced on April 26 that SarvamAI, a Bengaluru-based AI startup, will be the first to receive capacity from this facility to train a sovereign, indigenous LLM, a key priority for the IndiaAI Mission. After outlining the government's initiatives, Mr. Vaishnaw advised industry leaders to tread cautiously on AI: 'My request to the entire industry would be, use AI in a safe way,' he said. 'Use this technology in a very proper way and have a humane approach. When such disruptions happen, then society goes through a very big change and that change must be dealt with in a very humane way.'
