Where Will Air Canada Be in 10 Years?

Air Canada (TSX:AC) has had a turbulent ride in 2025. After plunging 36% in the first quarter, the stock has staged a solid rebound in the second quarter with a 32% gain so far. Even with that recovery, shares remain down 16% year to date, currently trading at $80.64 with a market cap of $6.1 billion.
Investors are right to be cautious, given the ongoing macroeconomic uncertainty, fuel price volatility, and geopolitical tension weighing on the airline sector. But we can't deny that Air Canada stock is also showing signs of resilience. And more importantly, the long-term story may be less about short-term turbulence and more about how the Canadian flag carrier adapts, innovates, and positions itself for the next decade of travel.
Let's explore where Air Canada could be 10 years from now and what fundamental factors may shape its long-term outlook.
Air Canada stock has been reacting to a mix of industry-specific turbulence and broader macroeconomic shifts. If we ignore the recent spike in oil prices due to the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict – which could prove to be temporary – fuel prices have actually been more forgiving this year compared to 2024. That has helped airlines cushion some of the pressure from softening demand.
However, the overall investor sentiment is still cautious, with geopolitical uncertainty and concerns about economic growth hanging over the entire travel sector.
Despite these challenges, Air Canada has been proactive in managing capacity during a typically slow winter season, especially in the transborder segment.
The first quarter of 2025 was an unprofitable quarter for the company, but it wasn't without strength. Air Canada reported $1.5 billion in operating cash flow for the quarter and $831 million in free cash flow. Similarly, its adjusted quarterly EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) came in at $387 million, even as margins slipped from last year. While depreciation, exchange rate swings, and ground packages drove its costs higher last quarter, lower fuel prices offered a bit of relief.
Meanwhile, Air Canada's advance ticket sales increased as the airline headed into peak travel season, which showed consumer demand hasn't disappeared. Plus, its leverage ratio improved to 1.3 times in the latest quarter from 1.4 times at the end of 2024.
Interestingly, Air Canada has laid out a detailed roadmap to 2028 and beyond. It aims to cross $30 billion in annual revenue by 2030 while improving margins and keeping capital spending lean. Part of that plan includes expanding its global network, modernizing the fleet, and growing high-yield segments like Air Canada Cargo. The airline also plans to keep total shares under 300 million and recently bought back over 15 million shares, a move that could boost shareholder value over time.
If the airline hits its 2028 targets, including adjusted EBITDA margins of 17% or higher and consistent free cash flow, Air Canada stock could look much stronger a decade from now. The pieces are already in motion, and for investors willing to ignore short-term volatility, its long-term outlook looks really strong.

2 Industrials Stocks with Exciting Potential and 1 to Brush Off

Industrials businesses quietly power the physical things we depend on, from cars and homes to e-commerce infrastructure. But they are at the whim of volatile macroeconomic factors that influence capital spending (like interest rates), and the market seems convinced that demand will slow. Due to this bearish outlook, the industry has tumbled by 1.4% over the past six months. This performance was disappointing since the S&P 500 climbed 1.9%. The elite companies can churn out earnings growth under any circumstance, however, and our mission at StockStory is to help you find them. With that said, here are two industrials stocks we think can generate sustainable market-beating returns and one best left ignored. Market Cap: $129.6 million Founded in 1947, Richardson Electronics (NASDAQ:RELL) is a distributor of power grid and microwave tubes as well as consumables related to those products. Why Do We Steer Clear of RELL? Products and services are facing significant end-market challenges during this cycle as sales have declined by 12.3% annually over the last two years Earnings per share have dipped by 74.7% annually over the past two years, which is concerning because stock prices follow EPS over the long term Lacking free cash flow generation means it has few chances to reinvest for growth, repurchase shares, or distribute capital Richardson Electronics's stock price of $8.99 implies a valuation ratio of 12.9x forward P/E. Check out our free in-depth research report to learn more about why RELL doesn't pass our bar. Market Cap: $833.3 million Primarily serving the oil and gas industry, Aris Water (NYSE:ARIS) is a provider of water handling and recycling solutions. Why Will ARIS Beat the Market? Market share has increased this cycle as its 15.1% annual revenue growth over the last two years was exceptional Performance over the past two years shows its incremental sales were extremely profitable, as its annual earnings per share growth of 35% outpaced its revenue gains Free cash flow margin is now positive, indicating the company has achieved financial self-sustainability Aris Water is trading at $25.53 per share, or 17.3x forward P/E. Is now the right time to buy? Find out in our full research report, it's free. Market Cap: $5.84 billion Backed by two million square feet of lab testing space, AAON (NASDAQ:AAON) makes heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment for different types of buildings. Why Should You Buy AAON? Annual revenue growth of 20.7% over the past five years was outstanding, reflecting market share gains this cycle Earnings growth has trumped its peers over the last five years as its EPS has compounded at 18.2% annually ROIC punches in at 20.7%, illustrating management's expertise in identifying profitable investments At $71.48 per share, AAON trades at 29.7x forward P/E. Is now a good time to buy? See for yourself in our full research report, it's free. Market indices reached historic highs following Donald Trump's presidential victory in November 2024, but the outlook for 2025 is clouded by new trade policies that could impact business confidence and growth. While this has caused many investors to adopt a "fearful" wait-and-see approach, we're leaning into our best ideas that can grow regardless of the political or macroeconomic climate. Take advantage of Mr. Market by checking out our Top 5 Strong Momentum Stocks for this week. This is a curated list of our High Quality stocks that have generated a market-beating return of 183% over the last five years (as of March 31st 2025). Stocks that made our list in 2020 include now familiar names such as Nvidia (+1,545% between March 2020 and March 2025) as well as under-the-radar businesses like the once-micro-cap company Kadant (+351% five-year return). Waymo applies for special permit to bring its self-driving cars to New York City

Waymo is doing what was once unthinkable: bringing its robotaxi service to the streets of New York City next month. "We've applied for a @NYC_DOT permit to drive autonomously with a specialist behind the wheel while we're in the city — a key step to one day serving New Yorkers," the Alphabet-backed (GOOG, GOOGL) company said in a post on X. Waymo said it is also advocating for changes to state law to bring its fully autonomous ride-hailing service to the city in the future. New York's busy streets, with vehicles, pedestrians, bikers, and all sorts of delivery drivers, are seen as one of the most challenging terrains for a rototaxi operator. Waymo's announcement of a future New York City-based service comes amid a planned nationwide expansion. The company operates in parts of San Francisco, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Austin, and just announced it was expanding service in greater Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. Tesla (TSLA), which is slated to begin its robotaxi testing in Austin starting next week, will not use safety drivers in its cars when its test begins but will have remote teleoperators available. Two Tesla robotaxis were seen testing in Austin last week, but Tesla employees were sitting in the passenger seat. Waymo, the leader in the robotaxi space with 250,000 trips per week, counts competitors like Zoox (backed by Amazon (AMZN)), China's Pony AI (PONY) and WeRide (WRD), and of course Tesla, though none operate in as many regions or perform as many autonomous rides as Waymo. Volkswagen's MOIA revealed its ID. Buzz AD robotaxi in Germany this week. However, its vehicles plan to use other operators' platforms, like Uber, to deploy its vehicles. Waymo's expansion counts on its ability to manufacture more vehicles, which the company said will expand to 2,500 vehicles in the near future. Though that production is much smaller compared to what a traditional automaker like Tesla or VW can produce, Waymo is countering that issue by partnering with manufacturers like Toyota and China's Zeekr. Fidelity Says Retirement Contributions Have Hit an All-Time High: Are You Contributing Enough?

Although many Americans have fallen behind on their retirement savings, it's not necessarily for lack of effort. In fact, Americans overall are contributing to their 401(k) accounts at a record rate, according to a report from Fidelity Investments. Read More: Trending Now: Total 401(k) savings rates set a new all-time high of 14.2% during the 2025 first quarter — the closest it has ever gotten to Fidelity's suggested savings rate, which is 15% of your pre-tax income. If you wonder whether you're contributing enough to your retirement savings, read more below on what your retirement savings strategy should look like. One reason the Q1 figure edged so close to 15% is because of a 'milestone' average employee contribution rate of 9.5%, Fidelity noted. There was also an employer contribution rate of 4.8% — the highest level to date. Other highlights from the Fidelity report include the following: Average long-term retirement balances fell slightly from the previous quarter but rose on an annual basis. The percentage of workers contributing to a Roth 401(k) increased to 16.8% in the 2025 first quarter from 15.2% the prior year. The percentage of individuals initiating a new 401(k) loan dropped slightly to 2.3% from 2.4%. Average IRA account balances fell slightly year-over-year, but contributions during the year rose to $3,231 from $3,093. Find Out: 'Although the first quarter of 2025 posed challenges for retirement savers, it's encouraging to see people take a continuous savings approach which focuses on their long-term retirement goals,' Sharon Brovelli, Fidelity's president of Workplace Investing, said in a news release. 'This approach will help individuals weather any type of market turmoil and stay on track to reach their retirement goals.' Fidelity's guideline is to work your way up to saving 15% of your pretax income each year for retirement, including employer contributions. The 15% can also include contributions you make to an IRA. As Fidelity noted, the 15% guideline is based on research showing that most people need between 55% and 80% of their pre-retirement income to finance their lifestyles in retirement. That income can include Social Security checks. A recent blog from T. Rowe Price offered similar advice, suggesting that saving 15% of your income each year (including any employer contributions) is an 'appropriate savings level' for many people. In terms of how much you should have saved in pure dollar terms, here are T. Rowe Price's recommendations: Age Savings Benchmarks 30 Half of salary saved 35 1x to 1.5x salary saved 40 1.5x to 2.5x salary saved 45 2.5x to 4x salary saved 50 3.5x to 5.5x salary saved 55 4.5x to 8x salary saved 60 6x to 11x salary saved 65 7.5x to 13.5x salary saved More From GOBankingRates 3 Luxury SUVs That Will Have Massive Price Drops in Summer 2025 10 Used Cars That Will Last Longer Than an Average New Vehicle 7 Tax Loopholes the Rich Use To Pay Less and Build More Wealth This article originally appeared on Fidelity Says Retirement Contributions Have Hit an All-Time High: Are You Contributing Enough?
