Horn Barbecue Opens In Elk Grove With Full Bar And New Menu Additions
Horn Barbecue Elk Grove is officially open, bringing Matt Horn's nationally acclaimed barbecue to the Central Valley with more smoke, more space, and a few new tricks. The James Beard-nominated pitmaster—known for redefining West Coast barbecue—opened the new location on Saturday, April 26, taking over the former Slow & Low space on Railroad Street with an expanded menu, full bar, tableside service, and a 100-seat patio made for live music and long afternoons. The Elk Grove restaurant marks the first expansion oforn's flagship and signals a new phase of growth for his AH2 Hospitality Group.
Interior of Horn Barbecue Elk Grove
'Elk Grove presents an ideal opportunity to grow our brand and contribute to the community,' Horn says. 'This is part of our long-term vision—to expand into key markets where we can deliver an authentic and elevated barbecue experience, and open up new opportunities for collaboration and innovation.'
Horn Barbecue Spread
On the menu: all the hits. Fans can expect 19-hour smoked brisket, ribs by the pound, beef links with that perfect snap, and sides like mac and cheese, candied yams, and cornbread that channel generations of Southern cooking. But Elk Grove isn't a carbon copy. New additions like smoked gouda sausages, the stacked Horn Burger, whole chicken and scratch-made milkshakes—boozy or not—add playful, unexpected twists to the lineup.
Matt Horn
'Elk Grove gives us the space to innovate without sacrificing the tradition that defines our barbecue,' Horn explains. 'We're working with local farmers, experimenting with new techniques, and introducing menu elements that expand what barbecue can be—while keeping the soul of it intact.'
The format, too, reflects that shift. With full table service, a serious bar program and live music on the patio, this is more than a line-up-and-wait kind of spot. Horn plans to make use of that expanded format with collaborative events and guest pitmaster appearances.
Horn Barbecue Brisket
'We've created a place that reflects the local community,' says Horn. 'It's welcoming, it's contemporary, and it brings people together the way barbecue always has.'
Horn Barbecue in Oakland earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand and nods from Food & Wine, Esquire, and the James Beard Foundation. This new location in Elk Grove carries that legacy forward—while offering Horn a chance to keep evolving his style of California-born, Black South-rooted, Central Texas-inspired barbecue.

‘9-1-1' Fans Are in a Frenzy After Peter Krause Makes Rare Instagram Appearance
Peter Krause left 9-1-1 at the end of season 8 in April 2025. Actor Kenneth Choi shared a rare sighting of Peter on his Instagram in mid-July 2025. Kenneth also shared the impact Peter left while working with him on the ABC drama. Even though Peter Krause is no longer on 9-1-1, fans are still curious about what he's up to nowadays. Back in April, viewers of the ABC drama were outraged to discover his character Bobby Nash was killed off toward the end of season 8. While it's unlikely we'll see him on season 9 (although, it could happen in a flashback), we do know that his 9-1-1 family has gotten a "sighting" or two of Peter since he left. On July 14, actor Kenneth Choi (who portrays Howard "Chimney" Han) shared an Instagram featuring Peter juggling while decked out in 9-1-1 jacket. The video had a "Happy Monday" sticker on it, with a short, but sweet caption. "Peter Krause Sighting … he sends his ❤️," Kenneth wrote. Given how it's been some time since viewers have seen Peter, this surprisingly rare update from Kenneth left everyone in a frenzy online. "I KNEW Bobby wasn't gone… he just joined the circus," one person jested in the comments. "We're all sending our love back! We miss him so much! Thank you for this," another penned. "It's almost embarrassing how many times I've watched this and how happy it makes me. Peter Krause, the man that you are," a different follower added. And despite not knowing how his character's death will fully impact 9-1-1 going into the new season, Kenneth did express the impact Peter left on the show. "Peter Krause, you are the classiest guy, the most talented of actors, and the loveliest human being," he wrote on Instagram back in April. "THANK YOU, PK. Love You Pal. ❤️." Here's to seeing more of Peter and Kenneth together in the future! Rob Lowe Says Tom Cruise Didn't Want to Tell Him When Martin Scorsese Cast Him, Even While ‘Super Good Homies'
"I've got a thing I'm going to do," Cruise told Lowe vaguely about his 1986 film "The Color of Money" Rob Lowe and Tom Cruise used to be 'super super super good homies.' Though, apparently they weren't close enough for Cruise to talk openly about his part in Martin Scorsese's 'The Color of Money.' Lowe spoke on his podcast 'Literally!' (with KJ Apa and son John Owen Lowe) about how the pair, who starred together in Francis Ford Coppola and Kathleen Rowell's adaptation of 'The Outsiders,' used to be quite close. During one hangout, however, Rob recalled how Cruise evaded speaking directly about his part in the then-forthcoming Scorsese picture alongside Paul Newman. You gonna be in town?' He's like 'Aw, yeah, no I'm, yeah no I got a thing I'm, I got a thing I'm going to do,'' Rob started. 'I'm like, 'Well, what is it?' He's like, 'Uhh, you know, it's a thing, it's a thing with Marty,' and I'm like, 'Mar- Mar- Martin, Martin Scorsese?' 'Yeah.'' ''Holy s–t!'' Rob exclaimed at the time. ''Wait, what?! Who's in it?' 'Uh, Newman.'' You can watch the clip below. 'The Color of Money' was the 1986 sequel to Newman's acclaimed 1961 film 'The Hustler,' both of which were adapted from books written by Walter Tevis. They follow struggling pool hustler 'Fast Eddie' Nelson who, as a much older man in the sequel, mentors a younger hustler played by Cruise. The conversation started when Rob began teasing Apa about his extensive list of upcoming roles ('I've never met anybody, by the way, who has more movies going on that you can't talk about,' Rob remarked). Apa is currently set to star in Lasse Hallström's romantic drama 'The Map That Leads You,' which will hit Prime Video on Aug. 20. Apa called out actors who show others their self-tape auditions. The trio discussed the pros and cons of speaking openly about parts they book/audition for and playing things closer to the chest. The former 'Riverdale' star said he can see both sides. 'Why would he not be forthcoming?' Apa asked of Cruise. 'Well, I know why. I know why I wouldn't, why I haven't. It's because I don't want to sometimes sound cocky.' 'Bro, I would, the minute, if we could replay that day, the minute I hopped in the car with him, I would've been like, 'Dude! I'm doing a f–king movie with Martin Scorsese,'' Rob said. 'I'm that guy.' 'There's an earnestness to being excited about an opportunity, I think, that's authentic,' John said. 'I'm not putting it on my Instagram,' Rob said. 'Which is a different thing.' 'I would,' Apa replied. The post Rob Lowe Says Tom Cruise Didn't Want to Tell Him When Martin Scorsese Cast Him, Even While 'Super Good Homies' | Video appeared first on TheWrap.
