Rajya Sabha MP and Congress leader Akhilesh Prasad Singh has submitted a Suspension of Business Notice under Rule 267, seeking an urgent discussion on the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar ahead of polls.
In his notice, Singh warned that similar revision drives are planned across the country, including in West Bengal, where high migration, displacement, and documentation gaps could leave the poor and marginalised at risk of large-scale disenfranchisement.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Tuesday submitted a notice to move an adjournment motion under Rule 56 in the Lok Sabha, seeking an urgent discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls launched by the Election Commission in Bihar on June 24, 2025. In his notice, Tagore argued that the revision exercise has serious implications for the democratic process, especially with the Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for November this year.

After US President Donald Trump's recent "dead economy" barb against India amid the ongoing tariff row, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that the Republican leader has provoked the wrong country. As far as the substance is concerned, by all means keep a cool head, by all means try to negotiate over the next three weeks and try to explain to Americans why we have certain red lines. We have 700 million people in our country who are dependent on agriculture. We cannot sell them down the river with subsidised American grains flooding our market. There are other areas where we might be able to show some flexibility and some give," the Kerala MP was quoted as saying by India Today. Trump's tariff war against India Trump's controversial remarks came amid escalating tensions, with the US imposing steep tariffs on Indian goods and accusing India of maintaining some of the "highest tariffs in the world." On August 6, the US announced an additional 25 per cent tariff on all Indian imports, in addition to an existing 25 per cent duty, taking the total duty to 50 per cent effective August 27. The White House said the measure responds to India's continued purchase of Russian oil. At a press conference on August 7, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were "choreographed" by the EC to benefit the BJP, which he said appeared "immune to anti-incumbency." Citing internal analysis, Gandhi said the Congress expected to win 16 seats in Karnataka but ended up with only nine. He said the Congress investigated seven unexpected losses, zeroing in on Mahadevapura, where he alleged vote theft involving 1,00,250 votes. Presenting Congress's research on voting in the Mahadevapura Assembly in Karnataka, Rahul Gandhi alleged "vote chori" (vote theft) of 1,00,250 votes."Our internal polling told us we would win 16 seats in Karnataka; we won nine. SUDA Chairman accuses BJP, BRS leaders of spreading false propaganda against Congress government over notices issued under Dam Safety Act
Satavahana Urban Development Authority (SUDA) chairman Komatireddy Narender Reddy has accused both the BRS and BJP local leaders of trying to defame the Congress government by resorting to false propaganda over the notices served by the competent authorities in Hasnapuram and Bathukamma Colonies near the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) here as per the Dam Safety Act of 2021. Talking to reporters after visiting the two residential areas here on Friday, the SUDA chairman said the notices were issued to the owners of the structures within 200 metres from the LMD by the authorities based on the survey conducted by the Central Water Commission Dam Safety Review Panel. The BJP leaders are attempting to blame the State government for the notices issued as per the Dam Safety Act, he alleged, saying, 'It is the BJP-led government at the Centre, which brought the Act containing stringent provisions.' It is a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the pro-poor Congress government, he said, reiterating that the interests of poor and marginalised sections will be protected under the Indiramma Rajyam. Mr. Reddy said the 'evil designs' of those who bent upon 'misleading' people will be exposed.
