Residents object to work on water supply line on Jeevan Nagar main road
Area councillor Gaurav Bhatti attributed the resistance to what he claimed was an improper method of laying the water supply line under the World Bank's canal water supply project. He said that instead of digging the vacant space on the left side of the road to lay the line, the road was being dug up along with the divider.
The road, which was built around one year ago after a decade long wait, receives heavy traffic in the morning and evening.
However, officials of the water supply and sewerage board claimed that work of laying the water supply line had been planned in detail. They said that a GPRS survey was done before starting the work and the other side of the road was not dug up because of the presence of sewer lines or underground cables of telecom companies. Saying that they chose to dig at the vacant spot to ensure uninterrupted water supply to city residents, they added that the company laying the water supply line would get the road repaired.

Kanpur schools get safety guidelines amid rainy season
Kanpur: Following the ongoing rainy season, district magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Saturday issued guidelines to ensure safety of children in all schools across the district. Singh specifically instructed district inspector of schools Santosh Kumar Rai and district basic education officer Surjeet Kumar Singh that students must not, under any circumstances, be made to sit in dilapidated or unsafe classrooms. The DM further directed that, in cases where safe rooms are not available within the school, after obtaining the necessary approval from the competent authority, students should be temporarily transferred to a nearby school, and proper arrangements should be made for teaching and learning. A list detailing repairs required for the dilapidated rooms of the Parishad schools is to be promptly provided to the district construction coordinator via the block education officer. The managers and principals of non-government aided secondary schools have been instructed to conduct thorough inspections of their school buildings. Any unsafe rooms are to be identified, marked with a red 'X,' declared unusable, and barricaded. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Jennifer Garner's sweet photo on sprawling family farm gets fans talking Watch More Undo The district magistrate stated that, should any accident occur in a school due to negligence, the head of the institution concerned would be held personally responsible. Directives also include regular cleaning of school premises, toilets, and kitchens, ensuring that food preparation areas are free from insects and cobwebs, and providing hygienic food for children. Several parishad and private schools are reported to be in poor condition, with water seepage a common issue during rains. Yesterday, a ceiling fan reportedly fell on students during class, resulting in injuries to two students. Food items are to be stored in air-tight containers, and only ingredients certified by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) are permitted for use. Fire-fighting equipment is to be provided in schools, with teachers or staff trained to operate it. A first aid box with all necessary medicines must be available on the premises. In the event of any emergency, messages should be relayed to the appropriate officials and the nearest health centre. Students to connect with city's historical heritage through edu tours
Kanpur: The students of the Parishad schools in the district will soon be taken on educational tours to connect the new generation with the temples and historical places present in Kanpur. District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Friday visited two major historical sites protected by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) in Bhitargaon block. First, he went to ancient Jagannath Temple located at Behta Buzurg village. The DM gathered information about the grandeur of the temple and its historical importance. The monsoon stone placed on the top of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple was also a centre of attraction for him. It is said that the prediction of rain is made based on the drops falling from this stone. The priest of the temple gave information about the history and tradition of the temple. Thereafter, he visited the ancient Gupta period temple situated in Bhitargaon town. The site is priceless heritage of the Gupta period whose architectural style, especially the terracotta sculpture and brick craft, still exists safely and impressive even after 1600 years. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like How Ken Koh revived ailing family business in S'pore to produce the 'Rolls-Royce' of soya sauce CNA Read More Undo The DM later commented that those temples not only reflect the historical depth of Kanpur district, but also prove that this region has been a rich cultural centre since ancient times and is not limited to only industrial identity. Bhitargaon area was rich in historical heritage and efforts would be intensified to bring it on the tourist map. He assured that every possible step would be taken at the administrative level to connect the heritage of this place with the public and to give a live introduction of it to the students through educational and excursion tours.
