Two women killed and teenager hurt in three-vehicle crash
The two women, aged 48 and 56, who were travelling in a black-coloured Vauxhall Mokka, died at the scene, officers said.
A 15-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the Vauxhall, was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she is being treated for her injuries.
The driver of the HGV and occupants of a VW Golf were uninjured, the force confirmed.
Detectives said the A96 at Forres is set to remain closed for several hours and motorists have been urged to avoid the area.
Sergeant Lesley Morrison at Road Policing in Elgin said: 'We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this tragic crash or anyone who has dashcam footage of it.'

Driver, 22, killed after horror three-vehicle collision
A 22-year-old man has died following a collision involving three vehicles. The horror smash occurred at 11.50pm on Friday at the junction of Stratford Road and Ladypool Road in Birmingham. A black Audi, blue Vauxhall and a parked vehicle were all involved in the fatal collision. The driver of the Vauxhall was taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead. Man found 'seriously injured' on Scots road as police launch appeal
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was found on Bridge Street in Alexandria. Detectives are investigating after a man was found seriously injured on a road in Alexandria in the early hours of Saturday morning. Emergency services were called to Bridge Street, near the roundabout leading to the B857, around 1.40am on August 2, where the 40-year-old man was discovered lying on the road. He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, where medical staff have described his condition as serious but stable. Police say they are working to establish exactly how the man came by his injuries and whether any crime has been committed. Detective Constable Andrew Baldacci said: 'Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident, how he came about his injuries and if any crime has taken place.'
