Turkish intelligence agencies are allegedly providing financial and logistical support to Islamist groups in Bangladesh, particularly the radical outfit Jamaat-e-Islami, raising serious concerns about India's national security, according to intelligence sources.
The sources claim that Turkey's support goes beyond ideological sympathy and now includes direct financial backing. A key example cited is the renovation of Jamaat's office in Dhaka's Moghbazar, which is believed to have been funded by Turkish intelligence-linked entities. The move suggests a structured effort to strengthen the group's organisational and infrastructural base.
Visits To Arms Facilities Raise Red Flags
In what is being seen as a worrying development, Turkish authorities are said to have facilitated visits by Bangladeshi Islamist leaders and student activists, including Sadiq Qayam, to Turkish arms manufacturing units. Intelligence inputs suggest that these visits may be aimed at enabling access to military know-how and possibly weapon supplies.
Ankara's Pan-Islamist Agenda
Under President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkey has reportedly expanded its influence among Islamist factions in South Asia. Turkish institutions are known to host religious seminars and workshops targeting South Asian Muslims, allegedly as part of Ankara's larger pan-Islamist outreach.
India's security agencies believe this ideological grooming could serve to radicalise vulnerable populations and align them with Turkish geopolitical ambitions, sources said.
Further raising eyebrows was the official visit by Mohammad Ashiq Chowdhury, Chief of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), to Turkish defence manufacturer MKE. The visit, reportedly conducted without the presence of senior Bangladeshi military or defence officials, has sparked concerns over covert defence arrangements under civilian pretexts.
In addition, intelligence reports claim that Bangladesh's national security and information advisers have been attending closed-door military briefings in Turkey. There is also suspicion that Turkish assistance may be directed towards arming the Arakan Army, an insurgent group operating in Myanmar near India's eastern border.

Cross-Border Threats and Terror Financing
Jamaat-e-Islami and its affiliates are known to rely on diverse funding channels—including remittances, donations, and covert foreign intelligence support—to finance their activities. With Turkish backing, the group may now be better positioned to expand its operations and recruitment efforts in both Bangladesh and India.
Security officials warn that the strengthened nexus between Jamaat and Turkey could fuel cross-border terrorism, especially in India's Northeast. Turkey has previously been accused of backing radical elements in India, particularly in regions like Kerala and Jammu & Kashmir.
Strategic Alliance With Pakistan's ISI
The intelligence sources further claim that Turkey, Pakistan's ISI, and Bangladesh's Jamaat-e-Islami have formed a strategic alliance aimed at destabilising India. This trilateral network reportedly facilitates the movement of funds, weapons, and extremist ideology across South Asia, using Bangladesh as a staging ground for anti-India activities.
The growing strength of this alliance, security analysts warn, poses a serious challenge to regional stability and India's internal security architecture.
What Is Jamaat-e-Islami?
Jamaat-e-Islami, the largest Islamist political party in Bangladesh, had sided with Pakistan during the 1971 Liberation War, opposing Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Awami League, which spearheaded the country's independence movement.
Under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Mujibur Rahman's daughter, the party was banned and several of its top leaders faced a crackdown. However, after the end of her tenure, the Supreme Court overturned the cancellation of Jamaat-e-Islami's registration, clearing the way for its formal re-entry into politics through the Election Commission.

In Lahore, the oldest Ahmadi place of worship in Ghari Shahu was sealed on Eid day after TLP activists demanded police Nazimabad, Karachi, the JAP said Irfan-ul-Haq and his son were taken to the police station along with their sacrificial animal by the TLP activists."Fearing for their safety, they recited the Islamic declaration of faith. The TLP activists celebrated by garlanding them and claiming their conversion to Islam," it police said they arrested two Ahmadis and booked three others under Section 298-C of the Pakistan Penal Code for attempting to slaughter sacrificial animals. They said that under the law, Ahmadis cannot observe Islamic JAP said that this treatment is not only discriminatory but also unconstitutional and illegal. "Under Article 20 of Pakistan's Constitution, every citizen is guaranteed freedom of religion. However, Ahmadis are routinely denied this right along with other fundamental rights," it organization warned that the increasing boldness of extremist groups like the TLP poses a grave threat to the community. 'The Ahmadi community is extremely vulnerable... these forced conversions are serious human rights violations.'The crackdown follows a string of recent attacks, including the desecration of over 100 Ahmadi graves in Punjab and the killing of a senior Ahmadi doctor in Parliament in 1974 declared the community as non-Muslims. The invitation appears to be linked more to the ongoing US-China rivalry and Pakistan's strategic importance than any stance against India. Due to Pakistan's close ties with China through initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the US harbours concerns about Pakistan's neutrality. Syria Mandates Full Body Swimwear For Women On Public Beaches
Syria's new Islamist authorities said on Tuesday that women going to public beaches must wear burkinis or other "decent" clothes that cover the body, giving some private venues an exemption. In the largely conservative country, few women wear swimsuits that reveal their body. Six months after Islamist-led forces toppled longtime Syria ruler Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian tourism ministry announced in a statement that beachgoers must wear "more decent" clothes, citing the "public's interest" as a reason. Women must wear "burkinis or swimwear that covers more of the body" on public beaches, the statement said. Outside of swimming areas, women must wear loose-fitting clothing while men are not allowed to be topless. Private beach clubs and venues considered "luxurious" by authorities do not have to abide by the new rules, with the tourism ministry saying "Western swimsuits are allowed" there within the limits of "general morals". Other private establishments must follow the modesty rules. Generally while out in public, Syrians are asked to "wear loose clothing, cover the shoulders and knees and avoid transparent and tight clothing", according to the ministry's statement, which did not specify if and how the rules may be enforced. The announcement drew mixed reactions from social media users, adding to concerns among some Syrians over personal freedoms since the new authorities took power in December. "Syria is a moderate and open country, and it should accommodate everyone without restrictions," a woman called Shaza said on Facebook, adding that "the ministry should reconsider its decision". A man, Yahya Qabisho, expressed support for the new rules which he said reflected a "duty" to respect "the culture of Syrian society". In May, a nightclub in Damascus came under attack by armed men, killing one woman. Social media videos have showed young men chanting religious slogans and demanding the closure of bars in the capital that serve alcohol.
