Lloyds is the first major UK bank to launch a mobile app feature which allows cash to be paid in at more than 30,000 convenient locations nationwide using a barcode
Lloyds Bank has unveiled a pioneering feature in UK banking, set to roll out from August 26, which will offer significant benefits to its customers. It comes after money guru Martin Lewis advised Lloyds, NatWest, and Nationwide customers that now is a good time to lock in the best rates before it's too late.

The bank is the first major UK institution to introduce a mobile app feature that enables cash deposits at more than 30,000 convenient locations across the country using a barcode. The move could be significant for customers especially as nine bank branches are set to close this summer in Wales including two branches of Lloyds bank.

From August 26 Lloyds Bank customers can generate a barcode within the Everyday section of their app.

Customers will have the ability to deposit up to £300 per day in notes and coins with a monthly limit of £600. The generated barcode will remain valid for two hours.
To find their nearest PayPoint location, customers can use the Lloyds app or visit the PayPoint website. Customers can still utilise branches of Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland for quick and easy cash deposits, reports BirminghamLive.

Additionally account holders can make use of Lloyds' cash in and out machines located throughout the country.
Customers also have access to Banking Hubs, available nationwide, which offer counter services run by the Post Office.
Furthermore the banking group has confirmed that customers can conduct their everyday banking, including cash deposits or withdrawals, at any of the 11,500 Post Offices across the UK.

Gabby Collins, payments director at Lloyds, said: "We're always looking for smart ways to make banking more flexible and give customers more choice.
"Our latest app feature now allows customers to pay in cash at their local PayPoint in just a few minutes – ideal if they are popping in for milk or dropping off a parcel.
"With this new innovation no other UK bank offers as many ways to manage money as Lloyds."

With inflation still high, it's essential for all UK workers to ensure they're being paid correctly, but according Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert (MSE) employees may be missing out on hundreds of pounds each. In a blog post, the consumer finance site detailed the story of a 17-year-old part-time worker who discovered she was owed £240 from her employer in unclaimed holiday pay. While not everyone qualifies for holiday pay, if you do, you accrue a certain amount of paid time off based on your hours. If you then leave your job without taking all the time you've built up – regardless of whether you resign or are dismissed – your employer must remunerate you for any unused entitlement. Even if you no longer work there, it's still worth checking. So here's what you need to know. According to MSE, your first step should be to double-check your employment status to work out whether you're actually entitled to holiday pay, as it's not automatic. For example, if you are self-employed (and invoicing for your work to get paid), it is unlikely that you will be due any holiday pay. If you received a payslip however, you probably are due holiday pay. This is because most who receive a payslip are likely classified as a 'worker' or an 'employee', whether they work on a zero-hours, part-time, or full-time basis. Holiday entitlement in the UK depends on how many days or hours you work and your employer's policy. The legal minimum is 5.6 working weeks of paid holiday per year, and this amount (which is formally known as 'statutory annual leave') applies to both employees and workers. While some employers offer more, usually as an incentive to make the job attractive to applicants, they're not required to. They can also include bank holidays in holiday time, though some give them in addition. In terms of what this means for you, if you're a full-time employee working five days a week, you're looking at 28 days of paid holiday a year. If you're part-time, entitlement is worked out by multiplying the number of days worked each week by 5.6. For example, working one day a week means you accrue 5.6 days' holiday, two days equates to 11.2 days, etc. If your entitlement includes part of a day, your employer cannot round it down, but can suggest options (like starting later or finishing earlier) to use it. This ensures all staff, regardless of schedule, get their full statutory entitlement. For seasonal workers or those with irregular hours, holiday builds up at a rate of 12.07% of hours worked, calculated weekly or monthly depending on when you are paid, and rounded up to the nearest hour, according to Citizens Advice. For example, someone working 30 hours in a week would earn about four hours of holiday. If you think you are due holiday pay, then your first step should be to have a conversation with your employer, be they past or present. However, if they dispute what you are owed, you can also go to Citizens Advice for impartial guidance, or speak to your Trade Union, if you're a member. They can help you raise a formal complaint. At a Ceredigion Council development this week, TJ Morris Ltd was granted permission for a new store and related works at in Bath House Road in Cardigan, which will be bigger than the current shop on Aberystwyth Road. ‌ The application comes after a consultation period that ran from December 2024 to January 2025. A report for councillors revealed the proposal, featuring 82 car parking spaces, will share access with a previously approved Home Bargains outlet at the same location. ‌ The document stated: "The existing store, consented in 2007, is constrained in size (1,230 sqm gross internal area) and is stated to no longer meets Aldi's operational requirements." "The current store employs 39 staff, all of whom would be retained, with approximately 10 additional jobs created and it is stated that further employment opportunities would arise during the construction, fit-out, and ongoing maintenance of the new store. "It is also stated that Aldi, as freeholder of their existing store, intend for it to be re-occupied by an alternative use rather than continue as a food store once their new premises is available." "Most of the new store's turnover is expected to be transferred from the existing store, rather than drawing trade away from other retailers. This relocation is not considered a negative impact under planning policy, as it improves accessibility and supports more sustainable shopping patterns. ‌ "Furthermore, as detailed within the planning statement, it can be reasonably assumed that Aldi will not dispose of their current premises to a market competitor and therefore, subject to consents, its current 1,230sqm of retail floorspace may be lost and partially offset any short-term increase in overall floorspace within Cardigan. "It is stated that the development would help retain local expenditure that is currently leaking outside of the town centre, such as to the out-of-centre Tesco or stores outside Cardigan. This could lead to more linked trips with the town centre and increased footfall, enhancing the vitality of local businesses." It added: "The development is stated to represent an investment of over £6 million into the local economy and strengthens the presence of a major retailer in a more sustainable, accessible location near the town centre, enhancing consumer choice and competition." ‌ During the August meeting, councillors were told the new shop would be 53% larger. Ward councillor Sian Maehrlein backed the plans, saying: "Access to the Aldi we have now is horrendous, I'm surprised no-one has been killed on that junction. If you've moved recent, you could still get the discount – but you must ensure your name is on your new electricity account by August 24. The Warm Home Discount is a yearly £150 payment towards energy costs for eligible households in England, Scotland and Wales. It's normally applied directly to your electricity account between October 2025 and March 2026, but if your supplier provides both electricity and gas, you may be able to have it applied to your gas bill instead. You'll need to ask your supplier about this. How it works in England and Wales If you live in England or Wales and receive a qualifying means-tested benefit, you should get the payment automatically – as long as your supplier is part of the scheme and you're named on your electricity account by 24 August 2025. Qualifying benefits include: Housing Benefit Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) Income Support Pension Credit Universal Credit You can check eligibility via the government's Warm Home Discount online tool. But first, confirm your energy supplier offers the Warm Home Discount. Most large suppliers do, but if yours doesn't, you won't get it even if you qualify. How it works in Scotland In Scotland, the scheme is different. Payment is usually automatic for Pension Credit (guarantee element) recipients, if you're named on your bill by 24 August 2025. Others on certain benefits may qualify under the 'broader group', but you must apply directly to your supplier. Funding is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis – so apply as soon as possible in October. If you live in a park home and don't have a direct electricity account, you can still get the £150 if you meet the income or benefit criteria. How the £150 is paid If you are on a standard credit or smart prepayment meter, the £150 will be added as credit to your electricity account automatically. Those on more 'traditional' prepayment meters will be sent a top-up voucher by post, email or text, which you can redeem at the Post Office or a PayPoint shop.
