Target launches $80 genuine suede leather bag collection

News.com.au20-06-2025
An $80 bag from Target is quickly becoming a favourite among shoppers, offering genuine suede leather at a fraction of the price of many luxury alternatives.
Suede is all the rage currently this winter in Australia, from suede loafers to suede bomber jackets, but finding genuine leather ones is a costly affair.
For example, the Sienna Brown Suede bag from Vestirsi retails for $349, and the Tony Bianco Mily Espresso Suede Tote costs $249, which is why when Target dropped their own version of the suede over-the-shoulder bag, TikTokers lost their minds.
TikToker can't believe her find
One user, Emma Vosti, took to TikTok to rave about the find, saying: 'You will not believe what I got at Target yesterday. You just won't'.
'It came in its own dust bag,' she explained in awe as she pulled out the Chocolate Premium Suede Leather Slouch Shoulder Bag.
She particularly loved all the small details that gave the bag a luxe touch.
'It's got lining on the bottom. It's a beautiful colour. It's got the stitching detail. Are you kidding me?' she raved, before showing a tag inside the bag that said 'suede leather'.
The comments echoed her excitement, with one person saying they even left work early to go buy it.
Others described it as 'beautiful' and 'chic'.
Another simply said 'sold'.
One fan admitted, 'I didn't realise Target did leather bags'.
Influencer Steph Claire Smith even joined in on the hype and declared: 'That's a win'.
Another commenter revealed, 'I truly have never been so quickly influenced. Bought it but have to find a way to drive to the town three hours away'.
'What I'm shocked!!!' said someone else.
'Going right now,' wrote another shopper.
Target's new suede range
Carrie Kirkman, General Manager of Merchandise at Target Australia, told news.com.au: 'At Target, we're passionate about giving our customers access to on-trend, high-quality pieces that are effortless and elevated – but importantly also affordable.
'Our new range of suede bags delivers on all fronts – it's made from genuine leather with that soft, velvety texture everyone loves, and is available in a fresh seasonal palette.'
She said the first drop of bags is still arriving in stores across the country and landing online next week, but she's loving seeing the hype online already.
'It's been great to see the early response from our social media community. My personal favourite is the Suede Leather Slouch Shoulder Bag – it instantly elevates any look and, at just $80 for genuine suede, is at an incredible price point,' she said.
The details
The Premium Suede Leather Slouch Shoulder Bag is available in two colours, sand and chocolate.
Crafted from soft, premium suede leather, it features a relaxed, slouchy silhouette and a thick, comfortable shoulder strap, making it ideal for carrying essentials throughout the day.
Another popular bag in the collection is the Crescent Shoulder Bag, priced at $45, which is available in tan, chocolate, sand, and khaki.
It's smaller than the shoulder bag, but still large enough to hold everyday essentials like your phone, wallet, and keys.
The Bucket Tote Bag is another bag in the range, coming in three colours: tan, chocolate and khaki and also priced at $80.
It features a large, rectangular design and an inner, removable small purse with a zip top closure.
With genuine suede leather at such accessible prices, we're going to use the cliche here and say 'run don't walk' – as these bags are sure to fly off the shelves.

‘Just 1 point': Insane airline event is back

Virgin Australia's 1 Points store was so popular in Melbourne 2023 they had to hire extra security to make sure the long queues didn't block traffic. Off the back of its success, it's now popping up across the country with Sydney the first to kick things off with a store on Pitt Street on Friday (August 22), followed by Brisbane (September 5) and Melbourne (September 19). The stores will be filled with premium brands from Dyson to Bose, to designer fragrances that can be redeemed for just 1 point. Yes, just 1 point. But the catch is, Velocity members must get in quick as the airline hasn't disclosed how many of each product there is. 'It was an amazing day in Melbourne two years ago. We had a queue that long we had to hire extra security guards just to make sure we didn't block traffic,' Nick Rohrlach, CEO of Velocity Frequent Flyer, told 'There was so many people there, it was a huge reaction. Now it's even bigger – we're doing Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane – starting off with Sydney this Friday.' Mr Rohrlach reiterated that for 'literally one point' members can come into the store and redeem products and mystery prizes including flights. 'The only catch is you've got to get here early – history will suggest the most popular items sell out super fast,' he told 'There's multiple (of each product), but we won't say how many.' They include Dyson Airwrap™ multi-stylers, WellCare LED Face Masks, Prada Paradoxe and Burberry Hero fragrances, Bose QuietComfort headphones and Virgin Australia flights and Lounge access. Part of Velocity's mission to get Aussies to rewards faster and with 59 per cent of loyalty program members seeking more achievable rewards, the airline said the pop-up highlights just how easily everyday spending can unlock great rewards, a welcome boost for households navigating cost-of-living pressures. 'Right now times are still a little tough, cost of living is still really biting and so people can be savvy and use loyalty programs to get greater value,' Mr Rohrlach said. 'We have seen that across the board and also why our program has grown so fast across the years.' Mr Rohrlach said some loyalty programs you save up for years and you're not sure what you're going to get but it's not the case with Velocity. 'Velocity has always stood for really great value and try to be fast,' he said. 'For example, we lowered our price from Sydney to Melbourne – redemptions are just 5900 points and this rewards store is just to remind people that for as little as a point, this is what you can get. 'A family holiday from Sydney to the Gold Coast is 5900 points. If you have a look at the other guys, they actually just put up their prices, so people can see that value difference.' How it works Virgin cabin crew will be on hand to guide members, alongside live DJ sets to keep the energy high. Doors will open 8am in each city. Redeem 1 reward per member, per location. Just 1 Point is deducted from your Velocity member account in-store. No Points? No problem. Virgin crew will help you earn on the spot. Virgin Points partners include 7-Eleven, AGL, DiDi and DoorDash.

PR guru reveals truth about pap photos after Hembrow, Bailey date snaps emerge

They're the photos that have the whole of Australia talking – but one expert has shared a shocking truth about the snaps that exposed Tammy Hembrow's budding new relationship with AFL star Bailey Smith. The soon-to-be divorced influencer, 31, has been 'spotted' on several Gold Coast dates with the 24-year-old Geelong player in the past two weeks. Photos published show the pair, seemingly unaware they are being photographed, strolling hand-in-hand after enjoying a lunch date together at the uber trendy Rick Shores restaurant, at the Burleigh Pavilion. While another photo, taken inside what appears to be a local RSL, showed them pashing on a chair as diners sat at tables nearby eating plates of steak and chips. 'What many people don't realise is that 99 per cent of paparazzi photos in Australia are set up,' Billy Daniels, a Sydney-based PR expert, told 'Australian cities don't have the same celebrity landscape as the likes of LA and New York, so it's not feasible for paps to spend their days circling buzzy locations hoping for a celebrity to show up. 'The majority of photo ops, particularly when they link back to a brand, are planned in advance, either by the celebrity, their publicist or manager.' While Daniels – who runs boutique content marketing agency Billy Etc, isn't suggesting the relationship isn't genuine, he does suspect that Hembrow and Bailey wanted the romance exposed. 'Hembrow and Smith are legitimately spending time together … I am more sceptical of them being conveniently 'spotted' by a waiting professional,' he explained. 'Photographers here tend to have relationships with the celebrities, they'll literally text them and ask if they want to be snapped, and the tone is more collaborative than confrontational. 'Celebrities in Australia often prefer to 'work with' the pap industry rather than fight against it. So when you read that they have been 'spotted together', I always ask: 'spotted by who?'' One of the snaps – which shows Hembrow, a mum-of-three, and Smith looking directly into the camera with cheeky smiles – appears to support this. 'I have set up shots in the past and I completely stand by it. It can be a really taboo thing to do, as it's seen as desperate or fame hungry … whereas I see it as a safer and less intrusive way to get the shot,' said Daniels, who starred on reality TV show Made In Bondi last year. 'We all consume it but tend to be so judgmental of the way it runs. 'But I think nearly everyone who finds themself at the centre of public interest would prefer a controlled photo, rather than having their privacy invaded.' The PR, who has 11-years experience in the industry, also discussed the topic on The Briefing podcast with journalist Helen Smith, giving insights into how brands will often pair famous people together. 'For example, when we see H&M collaborating with Alexander Wang, so you have got your low end and your high end, and when they come together both brands are being exposed to a different market,' Daniels said. 'Its great for project promotion, and brand synergy, where both parties have very different audiences and can benefit from each other's.' Fans have been quick to speculate about Hembrow and Smith's apparent relationship, which comes just 8 weeks after she announced she had separated from her husband Matt Zukowski. Some argued the pairing was a publicity stunt for Smith's recent Tinder campaign as the face of its new Double Date feature. While others claimed it was 'suspicious' to see Hembrow move on 'so soon', with the apparent new romance sparked an avalanche of 'sexist' criticism online. Their high-profile dates also captured unwanted attention from community football coach, John Baggetta, who was sacked on Friday after making a crude social media remark about the supposed new couple. The Harvey Brunswick Leschenault Football Club terminated his contract after Baggetta posted an offensive slur to Facebook, where he referred to Hembrow as a 'c** bucket'. The full comment read: 'He's trying to keep his relevance and she's a c** bucket'. Hembrow posted an emotional video of her crying extensively shortly after, explaining the videos were filmed during her marriage breakdown, with fans also noting the significance of it being shared amid Baggetta's sacking. Meanwhile Zukowski is said to be 'shattered' by the fact his not yet ex-wife is reportedly dating again. 'We only broke up eight weeks ago. I just don't understand how someone can move on so quickly,' he told the Herald Sun. 'It's been 48 days, and I'm still trying to work out how I feel as a person after committing in marriage to someone. I'm trying to focus on myself and heal.'
