Formula E: Know all about GEN3 Evo race car that's dominating the track this season

Time of India28-04-2025

The
GEN3 Evo race car
is tearing through the Formula E circuit in Season 11, redefining speed, agility, and performance. With lightning-fast acceleration, cutting-edge features, and a robust design, it has quickly become the dominant force on the track. For fans, it means electrifying action; for drivers, fierce new rivalries. In short, the GEN3 Evo is the future of racing.
What makes the GEN3 Evo a revolutionary leap in
electric racing
Faster, quicker, unstoppable
The GEN3 Evo can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.82 seconds (0-100 kph in 1.86s), making it 30% quicker than a current F1 car. With performance gains of 2%, it's not just fast — it's engineered for excellence. It's also the world's first net-zero carbon race car, with performance enhancements delivered through state-of-the-art software engineering.
Aerodynamic body and enhanced grip
Sleek, sturdy, and more aerodynamic than ever, the GEN3 Evo is built for high-intensity, wheel-to-wheel racing. It features all-weather Hankook iON tires, offering 5–10% moe grip and crafted from 35% recycled and sustainable materials — a 9% improvement over the GEN3 specs.
Top speed
Yes, you read that right. The GEN3 Evo clocks a top speed of 200 mph. With its 600 kW regenerative braking system, the car can generate nearly 50% of the energy required for a race — during the race itself. And thanks to its electric motor, it achieves over 95% energy efficiency.
Battery and sustainability
This machine doesn't just race — it respects the planet. Battery minerals are ethically sourced, and the chassis incorporates recycled carbon fiber and natural materials like linen. A groundbreaking new tech enables a 30-second, 600 kW high-speed mid-race charge, giving drivers a strategic energy boost when they need it most.
Current Driver Standings for the season
At the top of the leaderboard is Nissan's Oliver Rowland, leading the pack with 69 points. Hot on his heels is Antonio Felix da Costa of Tag Heuer Porsche, sitting in second with 54 points. Just behind is his teammate, Pascal Wehrlein, with 51 points — a score he shares with the youngest driver on the grid, Taylor Barnard, who continues to impress in his rookie season.

Renault confirms launch of strong hybrid Duster and Boreal for India in 2026

Renault has officially confirmed the launch of its next-generation Duster SUV and its seven-seater sibling, the Boreal, for the Indian market. Both models will be built on the CMF-B platform, developed in collaboration with Nissan, and are slated to hit Indian roads in early 2026. The new-gen Duster will arrive first, with the larger Boreal (based on the globally sold Dacia Bigster) following later in the year. While initial variants will feature petrol and turbo-petrol powertrains, strong hybrid options will be introduced within 6 to 12 months after the launch. Production for the India-spec models is set to commence at the Renault-Nissan plant in Chennai this September. In line with global trends and emission norms, diesel engines will not be offered. Globally, the Duster hybrid is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a 1.2 kWh battery, delivering a combined 140 bhp. It features an electric automatic gearbox, offering up to 80% pure electric drive in urban settings. The Boreal hybrid variant, known as the Dacia Bigster internationally, is expected to feature a 1.4 kWh battery, producing a total output of 153 bhp, with a 107 bhp petrol engine and a 51 bhp electric motor. Additionally, Renault is evaluating the possibility of CNG-powered variants of both the Duster and Boreal, aligning with India's growing interest in alternative fuel options. As the company continues its work on a dedicated EV, the emphasis for now will be on strong hybrids and CNG models tailored for India's evolving fuel landscape.

Formula E: Porsche and Nissan locked in intense battle for Team Championship

Image credit: Formula E Oliver Rowland of Nissan may be well ahead of Pascal Wehrlein of Porsche in terms of points, but their teams are currently locked in a neck-and-neck battle. Rowland has 171 points, while Wehrlein has 103 points in the Drivers' Standings. The Porsche driver will need a major turnaround — and hope the results start going in his favour — to catch up with the top-placed Rowland. Porsche vs Nissan: Neck-and-neck in Formula E Team Standings However, the situation is quite different in the Team Standings. Porsche are on top with 191 points, while Nissan are just one point behind with 190. This close competition has added an extra layer of excitement to the championship. Formula E's official social media handle shared a special post highlighting the tight battle between the two teams: 'The top is getting busy. @PorscheFormulaE and @NISMO battling it out for the Team Championship @Hankook_Sport #ShanghaiEPrix,' Formula E's handle posted. How points system works for Formula E teams Every team has two drivers. It depends on the positions the two drivers of the same team capture. The points of the two drivers combined in a race are considered as team points, and that's how team standings come into the picture. The race winner or the first-position driver gets 25 points, the second-placed gets 18 points, third-placed gets 15 points, fourth-placed gets 12 points, fifth-placed gets 10 points, sixth-placed gets 8 points, seventh-placed gets 6 points, eighth-placed gets 4 points, ninth-placed gets 2 points, and 10th-placed gets 1 point. Example: If a team's two drivers finish 3rd and 7th, they will earn 15 + 6 = 21 points for that race. The Formula E points system 1st: 25 Pts 2nd: 18 Pts 3rd: 15 Pts 4th: 12 Pts 5th: 10 Pts 6th: 8 Pts 7th: 6 Pts 8th: 4 Pts 9th: 2 Pts 10th: 1 Pt For Porsche, Wehrlein has clinched 103 points, while his teammate Antonio Felix da Costa has 88 points. For Nissan, Rowland has 171 points, but his teammate Norman Nato's poor show this season has cost the team dearly. Nato has just 19 points to his name. It's Rowland's sheer dominance this season that has kept his team in the Team Championship race. Also Read: Formula E Season 12 calendar unveiled, has 18 races in 12 cities on the list With five races to go in the season — one in Jakarta, two in Berlin, and two in London— the race for the Team Championship heats up, and it will be interesting to see who clinches the title at the end of the season.
