Nantes' Mohamed cites 'origins and faith' for skipping anti-homophobia match

Nantes forward Mostafa Mohamed said Friday his refusal to play a crucial game in his team's battle against relegation on the final day of the Ligue 1 season, which will see all clubs mark the international day against homophobia, was motivated by religious convictions.
"Certain deeply rooted values, linked to my origins and my faith, make it difficult for me to take part in this initiative," wrote the 27-year-old Egyptian international in a post on Instagram.

Mohamed said his refusal to take part "expresses neither rejection nor judgement, only a loyalty to what makes me me".
"Everyone has their own history, culture and sensibility. Living together also means recognising that this diversity can be expressed in different ways by different people," he added.
"I believe in mutual respect -- the respect we owe to others, but also the respect we owe to ourselves and our convictions."
Mohamed has already missed games in the past which have coincided with French league campaigns against homophobia.
In 2023, the striker refused to play in a match against Toulouse when the teams wore shirts with rainbow-coloured numbers on the back. Mohamed's entourage said he faced threats if he played in the game.

On Thursday, Nantes announced the player would be fined for sitting out Saturday's match against already relegated Montpellier.
A source close to the eight-time champions said Mohamed's fine would be donated to a charity fighting LGBTQ discrimination.
Nantes need to win at home in their final game of the season to be certain of avoiding relegation.
They are two points above the drop zone although their favourable goal difference means a draw will almost certainly suffice.

Esteban Lepaul agrees personal terms with Rennes

Whilst talks between SCO Angers and Stade Rennais are ongoing, Esteban Lepaul (25) has agreed terms with the latter, according to a report from RMC Sport journalist . Lepaul carved out a spot in the line-up at Angers over the course of last season, finishing the season as the club's top goal-scorer in Ligue 1. The Frenchman has begun this campaign well, too, netting the only goal in a 1-0 win over Paris FC on the opening day of the Ligue 1 season. His performances have caught the eye of Rennes. As reported by Foot Mercato earlier this week, the Breton club have even submitted a bid worth €10m. However, this falls considerably short of Angers' valuation of their forward, which L'Équipe believes to be €25m. However, that has not deterred Rennes. As per Hawkins, talks between the clubs are ongoing. In the meantime, Lepaul has agreed on a four-year deal with Les Rennais. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Tottenham Turn to £47.5M-Rated PSG Transfer Target as Savinho Alternative

Maghnes Akliouche has become one of the most in-demand players as the summer transfer window nears its close, drawing strong interest from PSG and Manchester City after a breakout season with AS Monaco. The 23-year-old has established himself as one of Ligue 1's standout talents, and a move abroad is more likely. In May, 90min France reported that City and PSG had stepped up their pursuit, with Monaco now valuing him at around €70 million. Pep Guardiola admires Akliouche's left-footed creativity and versatility, seeing him as a potential long-term successor to Bernardo Silva. Meanwhile, Sky Sport Germany's Florian Plettenberg reported that Bayer Leverkusen still consider him a dream signing but view their chances as slim given the price tag and competition. With Manchester City firmly in the mix, Plettenberg adds that Akliouche is one of the key names to watch as Deadline Day approaches. Tottenham look at PSG, Man City transfer targetThe Independent reports that Tottenham are eyeing Akliouche as a more affordable option to Savinho, with Manchester City setting a £70 million price tag for the 21-year-old. Monaco, meanwhile, value their attacking midfielder at £47.5 million. According to a previous report from L'Équipe, Manchester United are also a name linked to the Frenchman. Nonetheless, it appears as though several Premier League clubs are keen on the Monaco standout. Despite the interest, it will take a significant sum. Monaco reportedly ask between €70 million and €80 million for the midfielder, a high price that hasn't deterred any of the clubs tracking him, making a summer transfer seem more likely.

Rangers transfer twist as Hamza Igamane lands Lille lifeline amid Dor Turgeman alarm bell

Lille boss Bruno Genesio has publicly demanded the club sign a striker after failing to land Rangers striker Hamza Igamane last summer. The Light Blues new owners 49ers Enterprises have stood firm on their £15million valuation of the striker throughout the summer - leading to the Ligue 1 side cooling their interest. Lille president Olivier Letang previously admitted the club were in no hurry to get a deal done - opening the door for other suitors with Record Sport understanding that Feyenoord are among the club considering an offer. L'Equipe report that the boss has considered walking away from the job over the lack of incoming stars - but that now according to "Genesio's entourage he and Letang seem to have made amends." Going into the clash with Stade Brest, Genesio was put on the spot about his transfer demands. He said: "I spoke of concern last week and some journalists said that I was shirking my responsibilities. That's not the case. "The transfer window, for me, is incomplete. There are still two weeks left before the end, we still need to recruit to have a stronger squad in terms of quantity to allow us to play on all three fronts. "We need full-backs, a central defender and a versatile striker." A move could leave the Light Blues looking for a new frontman - with Greek outlet Sport Time suggesting that AEK still maintain their interest in Cyriel Dessers. Maccabi Tel Aviv striker Dor Turgeman has been on the agenda - with the Scottish Premiership club looking to replace either Igamane or Dessers with the Israel international in a £4million move. However, MLS side New England Revolution have reportedly already made their move with reports suggesting that a £2.6million bid was rejected - with talks ongoing. And now one time Celtic flop Eyal Berkovic - who previously advised the 21-year-old to make the switch to the Scottish Premiership as a "stepping stone" to the Premier League - has raised an alarm bell over a potential switch to Ibrox. Speaking to Walla, he said: "I said on the radio that Dor Turgeman should not play in the United States. "What stood before my eyes was the fact that I was certain that from the United States he would not be able to move to Europe. "As far as I am concerned, soccer is in Europe and not in the United States, but in the last 24 hours I received the data: dozens of players are sold every season from the MLS to Europe; more than 10 every season are sold to the top five leagues in Europe; "That data definitely shows that many players are moving from the United States to Europe, and if that is the case, I take back what I said about Turgeman. He needs to make the move to New England. "The fact that he will play there will be less of an interest to me and to us here in Israel. We want to see Israeli soccer players play in England, Germany or Italy. But if from New England he can move there, let him make that move."
