Chanel Reaches for the Stars With Its High Jewelry Event in Kyoto

As with all Chanel High Jewelry collections, the basis for Reach For The Stars stems from the life of Chanel herself. This time her quote: 'If you were born without wings, do nothing to prevent them from growing,' provided the impetus for the collection. The pieces are statement-making and intended for red carpet moments—an extension of Chanel's first and only high jewelry collection in 1932. 'Maybe it's a more classic theme in a way, but at the same time it's a very bold and sophisticated approach to the glamorous style of Chanel,' said Dorothée Saintville, the brand's International Product Marketing Director of Watches and Fine Jewelry.

Japanese craftsmanship was a longtime focus of the late Creative Director of Chanel fine and high jewelry, Patrice Leguéreau, who started this collection before he passed away late last year. Saintville stepped in to join President of Watches and Fine Jewelry Frederic Grangié to shepherd this collection to fruition and continue to drive the creative vision and expansion of Chanel High Jewelry.
The stone's intense, warm pink tone with hints of orange and yellow embodies Leguéreau's intention to capture the sensation of golden hour, explained Saintville.

A hero piece of the collection features a significant padparadscha sapphire. The stone's intense, warm pink tone with hints of orange and yellow embodies Leguéreau's intention to capture the sensation of golden hour, explained Saintville. 'When Patrice thought about this collection he said: 'I imagine pieces kissed by the light of the sun at sunrise or sunset.' ' Imagination, romance, and modernism mark this new collection and the inclusion of wings expands its lexicon. 'There is no rule [of the introduction of new symbols],' added Saintville, 'it's part of the endless reinterpretation of our DNA.'

Spike Lee Walks Back Comment That ‘Highest 2 Lowest' Will Be His Last Film With Denzel Washington: 'I Got My Mind Right'

Spike Lee made headlines at Cannes this year when premiering his new film Highest 2 Lowest and announcing that it would likely be his last team-up with frequent collaborator Denzel Washington. 'I think this is it — five,' Lee told reporters of his and Washington's number of films together. 'He's been talking about retirement, even though he's just done another deal. Five films together, they stand up.' More from The Hollywood Reporter After Crediting 'Nobody' Workouts for Saving His Life, Bob Odenkirk "Never Stopped Training" for Sequel Official 'Highest 2 Lowest' Trailer Features Denzel Washington in Tense Calls With Kidnapper Halsey on Learning From Sydney Sweeney on 'Americana' and Creating Her Own New Series: "Really Cool to Be Part of a Project I Don't Face" The pair have united for Inside Man, Mo' Better Blues, Malcolm X, He Got Game and now Highest 2 Lowest, but at the new film's New York premiere on Monday, Lee walked back those previous comments and kept the door open for more projects with Washington. 'I said that before, but I got my mind right,' he told The Hollywood Reporter. 'I'm open to work with Denzel Washington and this not be the last film of the dynamic duo, D and Lee.' Highest 2 Lowest is a reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 film High and Low and sees a powerful music mogul (Washington) targeted by a ransom plot and put in a life-or-death moral dilemma. A$AP Rocky, Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, Elijah Wright, Wendell Pierce and Ice Spice also appear in the film. 'I became a student of Akira Kurosawa at NYU's graduate film school — that's where I saw Rashomon, that's where I saw many of Samurai films, that's where I saw High and Low,' Lee recalled, noting that Washington 'had gotten the property and he sent it to me; he said, 'Spike read the script. If you like, let's go.' I read it right away, called him up, I think the next day and said, 'Let's go.' It happened like that.' The famed filmmaker also weighed in on the film's tagline 'All Money Ain't Good Money,' saying, 'We know what that is and we know that sometimes in life we have to make that choice. And hopefully we make the right choice.' Highest 2 Lowest hits theaters on Friday and starts streaming on Apple TV+ on Sept. 5. Neha Joy contributed to this report. Luc Besson Unleashes Behind-the-Scenes Look at His Gothic Romance DRACULA: A LOVE TALE — GeekTyrant

EuropaCorp has released an interesting new featurette for Dracula: A Love Tale , the gothic romance-drama from legendary French director Luc Besson. The behind-the-scenes video arrives just ahead of the film's theatrical debut in France, offering fans an early peek into Besson's unique vision for the timeless vampire myth. Rather than retelling Dracula as we know it, Besson dives deep into the origin story, centering on a 15th-century prince who, devastated by the loss of his wife, curses God and is transformed into a creature of the night. Caleb Landry Jones, who previously worked with Besson on DogMan , stars as Prince Vladimir, with the story later jumping to 19th-century London where Dracula is drawn to a woman who looks eerily like his lost love. The English-language featurette dives into Jones' intense transformation into the iconic vampire, showing how he physically and emotionally committed to the role both on and off set. Besson, known for The Fifth Element and Léon: The Professional , is crafting a visually rich, character-driven reimagining of Dracula. The synropsis reads: 'In the 15th century, Prince Vladimir (starring Caleb Landry Jones) denies God after the brutal and cruel loss of his wife. He inherits a curse: eternal life. He becomes Dracula. Condemned to wander through the centuries, he has only one hope left: to find his lost love.' Also starring Zoë Bleu Sidel, Christoph Waltz, Matilda de Angelis, and Guillaume de Tonquédec, the film is scored by Danny Elfman and produced by Virginie Besson-Silla. While it hits French theaters on July 30, a US release date has yet to be announced.

Newly promoted Ligue 1 side Paris FC signs striker Geubbels from St. Gallen

PARIS (AP) — Newly promoted Ligue 1 side Paris FC signed striker Willem Geubbels from Swiss team St. Gallen on a five-year contract on Sunday. Paris FC announced the signing with a video posted on X. No transfer fee was given but French sports daily L'Équipe said Geubbels cost 9 million euros ($10.5 million) with a further 2.5 million euros in eventual bonuses. The 24-year-old Geubbels came through Lyon's famed youth academy but hardly played for the club before joining Monaco. He scored one league goal there and two for Nantes before joining St. Gallen in 2023, where he scored 14 league goals last season. Paris FC has large funds at its disposal since its takeover by France's richest family, the Arnaults of luxury empire LVMH. The energy drink giant Red Bull acquired a minority stake. For the first time in 35 years two Paris-based soccer clubs are in Ligue 1. Furthermore, Paris FC has changed its home stadium since being promoted and will play at Stade Jean-Bouin, which is literally across the street from defending champion Paris Saint-Germain's Parc des Princes stadium. ___
