
EIB Global signs $130m loan deal with SES for O3b mPOWER
The loan will partially fund SESs continued O3b mPOWER fleet expansion for additional capacity worldwide.
The European Investment Banks global arm, EIB Global, has signed a 125m ($130.16m)loan agreement with SES, a provider of satellite-enabled content and connectivity solutions. The loan will support the deployment of three satellites as part of SESs second-generation medium earth orbit (MEO) O3b mPOWER system. To date, SES has launched eight of the 13 planned O3b mPOWER satellites, which operate 8,000 km from Earth.
The funding will enable SES to expand broadband connectivity through its MEO system, providing internet access to underserved and remote areas across Africa, Asia and Latin America. This initiative aims to reduce the urban-rural digital divide and enhance access to essential services such as education, healthcare, and e-governance.
EIB Vice-President Robert de Groot said: 'Digital connectivity is essential for economic and social development, particularly in regions where access to broadband is limited. By fostering enhanced connectivity, this collaboration with SES will not only help to bridge the digital divide, but will also unlock new opportunities by improving quality of life for millions of people. The project will also help strengthen Europes independence in the area of access to space-based data traffic reflecting the EIBs commitment to supporting Europes strategic autonomy in the domains of space and global connectivity.'
Sandeep Jalan, Chief Financial Officer at SES, added: 'We are pleased to have secured this term loan from the EIB, which reflects their confidence in our business and network and underscores our ability to secure funding from diverse sources while bolstering SESs financial foundation. This agreement further enables us to deliver high-performance, multi-orbit connectivity services securely and reliably to our customers worldwide.'
The loan aligns with the European Unions Global Gateway initiative, which promotes investment in secure and sustainable infrastructure to connect communities and enhance global living standards.

SESs 7th and 8th O3b mPOWER satellites set to begin connectivity services
With these satellites, SES is enhancing the O3b mPOWER network to serve customers across multiple market segments SES has announced that the latest pair of O3b mPOWER satellites launched in December 2024 is now ready to offer services across the globe. Featuring redesigned payload power modules, the seventh and eighth O3b mPOWER satellites are bolstering the capabilities of SESs second-generation medium earth orbit (MEO) system, supporting the delivery of high throughput and predictable low latency services at scale. To date, SES has launched eight out of 13 O3b mPOWER high-throughput and low-latency satellites. The next O3b mPOWER launch is scheduled for summer 2025. SES has also expanded its strategically located satellite ground stations, and now has 12 operational O3b mPOWER gateways located in South Africa, Peru, Brazil, Portugal, Australia, Greece, the US, Chile, the United Arab Emirates and Senegal. Five out of these are co-located and operated by Microsofts Azure data centres. Our O3b mPOWER services are in high demand and we were eagerly awaiting the additional satellites to strengthen our MEO network, said Adel Al-Saleh, CEO of SES. As we continue to deploy additional O3b mPOWER satellites, we are bringing substantially more capacity and improved network efficiency, resulting in a threefold increase in available capacity by 2027 to better serve our mobility, government, enterprise and cloud customers. Hassan Allam-Metito JV awarded Alexandria West WWTP expansion in Egypt
Egypt's Hassan Allam Construction, a subsidiary of Hassan Allam Holding, in joint venture with UAE's Metito has been awarded the Alexandria West Wastewater Treatment Plant – Extension & Upgrade Project. The project will increase the WWTP's capacity to 600,000 cubic metres per day (m3/day), Hassan Allam Holding said in a press statement. The plant's existing primary design capacity is 462,000 m³/day, according to data available on the website of Dorsch Gruppe, which prepared the feasibility study for the project. The scope involves upgrading the plant from primary to secondary treatment, incorporating advanced sludge digestion and biogas generation systems, refurbishing existing facilities, and constructing new treatment units. The statement didn't reveal cost or completion timelines. The project is financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) through a €120 million concessional loan with a €20 million grant from the European Union's (EU) Neighbourhood Investment Platform (NIP), according to a March 2024 statement by EU Neighbours South programme. SES signs multi-launch agreement with Impulse Space
Selected missions will lift off aboard a medium-class rocket to LEO, where Impulses high-energy Helios kick stage will then carry each SES satellite to higher orbits within hours. Impulse Space, a leader in in-space mobility, has signed a multi-launch agreement with satellite operator SES to utilise its Helios kick stage system to reduce the time required for SES satellites to reach their final orbital destinations. The partnership will enable SES to move its payloads directly from Low Earth Orbit (LEO) to high-energy orbits, such as Geostationary Orbit (GEO) or Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), within hours rather than months. The first mission under this agreement is slated for 2027 and will see a 4-ton-class SES satellite launched via a medium-lift rocket into LEO before being swiftly transferred by Helios to GEO in under eight hours. This mission will mark the first commercial deployment dedicated solely to Helios, showcasing its full performance capabilities. The deal also leaves room for additional missions, allowing SES greater flexibility and speed in deploying satellites on demand. Traditionally, satellite operators targeting MEO or GEO have been limited to either costly and scarce heavy-lift rockets or extended, slow transfers using electric propulsion systems. Helios presents a new optionusing chemical propulsion to transport satellites directly and rapidly to their target orbits, transforming the traditional satellite deployment model. Commenting on the launch agreement, Adel Al-Saleh, CEO of SES, said: 'At SES, we are firm believers that co-development and collaboration with our partners will help the space industry to evolve and quicken the pace of innovation.
