India vs England 4th Test: Head-to-head, most runs, highest score, best figures at Old Trafford
India face a crucial decision on star pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah's fitness ahead of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford starting Wednesday, with the series at stake. England lead 2-1 and can secure the series with a victory in Manchester, as India grapple with selection challenges.
India, trailing in the five-match series after their 22-run defeat at Lord's, must win to keep alive their hopes of claiming their first Test series victory in England since 2007. The decision on Bumrah's availability has become more critical due to injuries to Nitish Kumar Reddy and Arshdeep Singh.

India coach Gautam Gambhir had previously indicated that Bumrah would only be available for three matches in the series due to his back injury.
If selected for Manchester, Bumrah could miss a potential series-deciding fifth Test.
Bumrah, currently ranked as the world's top Test bowler, has only played in the first and third Tests, both resulting in losses for India, while sitting out the second Test which India won. The 31-year-old's back concerns has limited his availability in the series.

Stokes contributed 77 runs across two innings, claimed five wickets, and executed a crucial run-out of Rishabh Pant.
Stokes, at 34, bowled 44 overs, including lengthy spells on the final day, marking his highest bowling workload in over six years.
"It was an incredible effort to be able to do that, but that's just how he's built, I guess. He's just desperate to be the man and make things happen," said Joe Root.
Jadeja, 36, demonstrated his value with an unbeaten 61 from 181 balls in India's near-successful chase at Lord's.
His consistent performances include scores of 72 in the first innings at Lord's and 89 and 69 in the second Test at Edgbaston.
"I always felt he has the ability to take pressure. With so much of experience, he normally comes with something that the team needs in any challenging conditions. Really, really valuable to the team," said India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak.

Cricket on display during England series a matter of pride: Gautam Gambhir
India head coach Gautam Gambhir said touring England has always been a challenging assignment, but asserted that the quality of cricket in the ongoing series has made 'every cricket lover proud.' Gambhir was addressing a gathering at the India House on Monday evening to express gratitude for the fans' support during the course of the series, which saw the visitors pull off a dramatic draw in the fourth Test at Manchester. 'Touring this part of the world has always been challenging because of the history between the two countries, which can never be forgotten,' said Gambhir during his speech. 'Whenever we have toured the UK, the kind of support we have got, we cherish every bit of it. We never take anything for granted. An evening to remember as the High Commission of India in London hosted #TeamIndia! 👏 The Indian cricket team captain Shubman Gill and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir presented signed cricket bats to Honourable High Commissioner Mr. Vikram Doraiswami and Deputy High Commissioner Mr.… — BCCI (@BCCI) July 29, 2025 'Last five weeks have been really exciting for both countries with the kind of cricket that has been on display, which I'm sure has made every cricket lover proud,' he added. The Indian cricket team received a rousing welcome from community leaders, parliamentarians and sports fans at a diaspora reception hosted by the High Commission of India in London, where the squad is set for the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval from Thursday. He went on to highlight the importance of the fifth and final Test, which India needed to win to level the series that now stands 2-1 in favour of England. 'Both the teams have thrown a lot of punches and have fought for every inch. We have got one more week to go, one final push to make and one more opportunity to make our country and people out here proud,' said Gambhir. The players were cheered enthusiastically by the crowd as some of the highlights from their recent games were played out on screen. Vikram Doraiswami, India's High Commissioner to the UK, said the fighting spirit the team showed during the series was a just reflection of the country's will to fight the odds. 'It's been a great series, played in the best of spirit. But the best bit of it all is the fact that we have a chance to see Test cricket played the way it is intended to be – contests for full five days, contests that have gone to the wire, contests in which the great sense of cricket as a game that is played with intensity for five days. 'And to have our team here display what is truly the range of skills but also the fighting spirit that is now associated with Team India is also a great reflection of the fighting spirit that now stands for the new India that we are all privileged to represent here,' said Doraiswami. 'No matter what happens (in the final Test), we couldn't be more proud of who you (Team India) are, what you represent, where you came from and what you mean to all of us,' he said. Richard Gould, chief executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), referenced the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed off during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's UK visit last week as a sign of the immense scope of collaboration between the two nations, including sports. 'In four Test matches so far, every one of them has gone deep into the fifth day…It's difficult to remember a Test series that has really resounded as deeply as this one has, both in England and back in India, and we are all really looking forward to seeing the battle recommence at The Oval on Thursday,' said Gould. The diaspora gathering concluded with a brief in-conversation session moderated by commentator and former head coach Ravi Shastri with a few players including captain Shubman Gill. 'Before the start of the series, I felt I haven't really shown my best and I was working quite hard on my game before the series as I wanted to prove myself,' said Gill, with reference to his over 700 runs notched up during the series so far. 'It was a very hard-fought game of cricket over the past four days,' he added.

Ex-Coach's Big Call On India's 11: 'Anshul Kamboj Won't Get Another...'
Sanjay Bangar predicts India may drop Anshul Kamboj for the final Test against England. Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh may compete for spots. Dhruv Jurel will replace injured Pant. Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar envisages India dropping pacer Anshul Kamboj for the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England, which begins on July 31 at The Oval. He pointed to incumbent head coach Gautam Gambhir's declaration that all pacers were 'fit', saying that Kamboj would find it difficult to be ahead of the frontline options in such a scenario. Kamboj made his Test debut in the last Test in Manchester but could pick just one wicket. There were concerns about his pace and match-fitness, but it looked clear that he had been slightly rushed, having been called up from India as an emergency support after both Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh went down injured. The latter two have recovered now and are likely to compete for the available spots. 'From tomorrow evening onwards, they'll begin planning for the next match," JioHotstar expert Bangar said on 'Match Centre Live'. 'One thing is certain — the designated wicketkeeper will return. I don't think Anshul Kamboj will get another opportunity this time, especially with all the frontline fast bowlers reportedly fit. Arshdeep Singh is also available as an option. So, which bowling combination they choose becomes a tricky decision." The designated wicketkeeper in this case would be Dhruv Jurel, who'll replace the injured Rishabh Pant, who suffered a foot fracture at Old Trafford. Bangar said the other toss-up would be deciding whether to go with an aggressive spin option in Kuldeep Yadav or play safe with all-rounder Shardul Thakur. 'Now that Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja have more or less secured their places, Akash Deep could come back into the equation. You also need to slot in the wicketkeeper, which locks in seven positions already. The big call is — who plays at No. 8? Do they go with Kuldeep Yadav or bring back Shardul Thakur? That's the decision Gautam and Shubman will have to make." India will also have to check if Mohammed Siraj can play a fifth Test on the trot and if Jasprit Bumrah wouldn't mind breaking the pre-series instructions that he should play only three matches to manage workload. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
